The most overrated cartoon of the past 20 years, possibly ever
To this day no one discusses what’s good about it, just nostalgia and then wanting to coin to the characters

GF had great writing, amazing voiceacting, solid artstyle, becautifull backfround art...

But the strongest part were the characters

I do not hear SU be described as the end all be all of tv animation the way this show is
I do not hear SU brought up 24/7 like it's the only thing to ever exist

I've never seen Steven Universe mentioned outside of art/animation circles whereas I see Gravity Falls pop up in mainstream spaces.

I do not hear SU be described as the end all be all of tv animation the way this show is
I do not hear SU brought up 24/7 like it's the only thing to ever exist

I think there are two sides to the success of Gravity Falls, the first is the one we all know because the lore, the mysteries, the shipping etc are the reasons it's successful in art circles, whereas having a basic relatable normalgay premise like "kids on summer vacation" is the reason it's a hit with normalgays far more than most other cartoons which go for more imaginative but abstract concepts. Combine that with the mean spirited derisive humor normalgays fell in love with in the 2010s and it's no wonder it's the most widely talked about one.

Adventure Time is also popular in normie circles, but that's largely due to the quirky "kids picture book but drawn by kids" vibe rather than being relatable.

The show sucked. Only good episode was the manotaurs

I can't think of a more boring show that got more undeserved praise
even when the show was airing everyone cared more about the edgy twins AU or Dipper getting fricked in the ass by a tumblr sexyman

Gravity Falls receives praise because it is paced solidly. Very few shows have actual pacing, and I am not talking about "technical" or what the audience thinks is pacing, "pacing" in this instance means solid foundational timing. Gravity Falls has mediocre writing, mediocre plot, and mediocre jokes - But its pacing is great, and since the pacing of a show outweighs any other importance that you could have to your media, Gravity Falls is a good show because of it. Amphibia after S1, Owl House, Star Vs after S1, Steven Universe after S1, Infinity Train - They all have bad pacing. Their stories can be superior, their characters can be better, their jokes can be funnier. But if the pacing is bad, the show falls from grace, and over time, noone cares.

Gravity Falls succeeds because of this "pacing".

Actually it was a show for zoomers, it's hard for a grown man to find it really intersting.
I was 14 when the last episode was released, back then I really enjoyed that show, now i fill nostalgic about it.

Hah, so false you're funny. I know plenty of millennials and xennials that absolutely love this show. I was not even aware that it was popular with zoomers. But hey, good quality is enjoyable to all ages, and this show had great quality.

Even with the ending being a bit rushed, it is still a truly excellent cartoon.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the show but it does have better pacing than a lot of the shows in the last ten years. But I disagree about that being the reason for its success, Molly McGee is very tightly and professionally paced but no one gives a shit about it.

The most overrated cartoon of the past 20 years, possibly ever
To this day no one discusses what’s good about it, just nostalgia and then wanting to coin to the characters

A cartoon (or any show) doesn't have to be a 10/10 to be good. Gravity falls is a comfortable 7/10 that everyone likes.

I watched the show and found myself occasionally laughing. The more I watched the more I got engrossed in the plot, and the characters. It was cool when Bill showed up, there was actual tension and I was invested. Then it ended. I had a good time. I'm sure everyone else did too. It wasn't perfect, the ending was literally a duex ex machina. But, All of the shows you watch are going to be flawed in some way or manner. Nothing that's particularly interesting isn't flawed, a show's got to take risks to succeed. As long as you are entertained and enjoy watching a television show then it has succeeded, it doesn't have to be Shakespeare.

The plot is well paced- seriously, all it takes for a show to be successful is to have good pacing and be somewhat original that's literally the most important thing to holding someone's attention. The humor is fast paced and morbid enough to get laughs out of even adults occasionally. The characters are distinct and well written enough to the point of where I was somewhat watching the show to see how the characters would react to the situation. I like how the characters in gravity falls are not reactive, but active and typically push the plot themselves- it makes them more interesting. You could take them from gravity falls and put them anywhere else and people would still be interested. Not a lot of shows pull this off well or at all.

    10 years already huh? Weird.

Would have been truly great if it had stuck to an episodic "treehouse x-files" format instead of doing the moronic millenial-zoomer serialization bullshit.

As it stands, the only thing about GF that matters (like most other cartoons of the last 20 years) is its waifu bait.

There's really not much else about it that's memorable like PPG, Dexter's Lab, EEnE, or OTGW. I feel sorry for anyone who's a fan of the show. It could have been so much better and more memorable.

Gravity Falls is pretty episodic, with a few plot points carrying over from certain episodes into the next. Never watched X-Files, so how is that show written that would have been better for GF to do?

Let's consider the Disney remake movie. What would be the best people to pair up with Pacifica and Wendy from Disney's perspective? Something to top the bugged rat. I think for Pacifica, maybe a black guy would be enough but Wendy needs to be deconstructed further. Let's imagine!

I only remember watching parts of episodes now and then when I was flipping channels. Until I binged it on Disney plus last year, I don't think I'd seen a single episode all the way through. I do remember really liking the parts of the candy demon episode, and the episode with the street fighter character was hilarious.

Now that I'm older and have seen the show in its entirety, it's alright but is a little overrated.
