Even as a "lol so based how they talked shit about studios! This is so meta!" it's impressive how bad this is.
No choreography, no cool villain, no stakes, Trinity was always the co-one. Just very embarrassing for everyone involved. If the choice was come back and make this, or WB would just make one themselves, I'd have chosen the latter.
Like recasting Agent Smith it was a meta thing where in sequels/revivals it's the same thing except different. They wanted it to be consciously different by casting new actors in certain roles, but new Morpheus isn't the same as old Morpheus anyway.
It is midwit arthouse, all its themes get handed to you on a platter. The whole movie is interesting ideas getting fricking butchered and fumbled, with lots of bad action and shitty effects inbetween.
I have nothing but respect for what this movie tried to do but Wachowski couldn't make it work.
showing a giant middle finger to big studios while mocking them and wasting their money is fun, but it's still a shit movie. if they wanted to make a satire there like billions better ways other than creating a shitty product
i never agreed with the ruthless hatred the first two sequels endured even though they are lesser movies by far than the original, but resurrections SUCKED
I remember warching it and thinking it's mediocre (except the visuals, some scenes are very pretty). The otiginal trilogy (and animatrix) still reigns supreme over this.
They fricked this up so bad. The whole movie should've been about Bugs looking for Neo and finally finding him at the end. They could have made a second trilogy where the second one has a super long highway chase scene like in Reloaded and Neo refuses to train Bugs because he thinks he failed. Then in the third one Smith somehow returns.
That's the exact opposite of what the Wachowskis wanted to do. It was deliberately made so that the franchise would be killed off and it was successful.
It was still not a good movie. It lost the essence of the original films. Sure, it may have accomplished its goal of ending the series, but is still a mid plot with unfunny jokes.
The movie has got to be the biggest trolling attempt of all time. Wachowski knew he couldn't make a movie that was too good because then the series would continue so he made a movie that was intentionally off putting in certain ways as a way to critique the entertainment industry as a whole. It couldn't be too bad that the studio would see what he was doing and get pissed so I think there was some deliberate good things to it, but overall it was not meant to be that great and for that it's actually quite acceptable to me.
It's pretty good but not even remotely 10/10. 8/10 if I'm being generous, especially considering how much shit it blatantly ripped off. But ultimately it did do a good enough job of mixing stuff together into it's own thing that I can appreciate it as a decent film of it's own.
So embarrassing most people have forgotten it existed
whataver makes you not commit suicide today Anon, have a nice day and dont forget to take your meds.
It wasn't that great, but better than the abomination that was Revolutions. It's a solid 6/10 movie.
It was great up until they left the Matrix.
i genuinely don't understand this movie
It literally has nothing to do with the original trilogy. Its satire about reboot culture.
Fake and gay. Bugs and NuMorph were actually cool though.
Nice fanfiction. Now frick off.
5/10 and if you disagree, you're a moron
Stupid Morpheus.
Stupid bad guy
less philosophy
Complicated story
Not as much action
Zion still sucks
It was a 5/10 movie

They still haven’t explained why they didn’t invite Lawrence Fishburne back
they probably did but he knew it would be shit

not even close to perfect but I did enjoy it
Clever concept != good movie

Wasn't there really any other way?
How does Neo produce new Morpheus again?
I liked it. A worthy conclusion to The Matrix trilogy.

I liked the first half of it but not the second half.

just say her name chud
If this was a plan to make sure no more sequels or new versions will be made, then the directors did a great job.
I liked the montage with the White Rabbit song.
If you watched and liked tis shit you're a trannie.

Oh shit Black person, I thought I was posting in a The Matrix thread, that's what I get for coming on Cinemaphile 2 minutes after waking up.
That shit's a 1/10 at best.
