It overall just seems like they didn’t finish? I like they should have been well aware of the deadline of the 100 year anniversary coming up. Maybe the staff didn’t put in the necessary few months of crunch time working 100 hr weeks and sleeping under their desks. Maybe because they care more about their social and virtue signaling working at Disney than about their craft and legacy.
It's like they wanted to stylize the animation like Spiderverse/Puss in Boots, but didn't want to depart too much from their pixar style and now it just looks half finished

actually looking back i forgot how truly stunning arcane is, you can take a screenshoot in any random moment and make a wallpaper and think its not 3d, its truly puts to shame anything else that tried to do 2d looking 3d animation
i think the bigger problem is that there is a spotlight from front, yet only random elements in the scene cast shadow, like the pillar next to the door on the left does, but the barrels on right dont, her hair self shadows on itself, but not on her body, there is varying levels of Global illumination/ Ambient Occlusion per object, faces et more, clothing less, environment seems completely random what does and dosnt the guy on the barrel gets 0 of it
I can only imagine what nightmare it must have been to link and mask every object in the scene per light and set unique GI influence per one of the million materials, all for an effect like pre vis work print

They should have brought back 2D with this one. Based on the new short, they can obviously still do it. This looks like half-assed CGI and I bet they still overworked the crew. Frick Disney, man.
