Most people who have been diagnosed by a professional already receive treatment and do try to mask symptoms in public to avoid embarrassment, legal troubles, etc. Discriminating against these people doesn't help them overcome anything, that's not how mental illness works. Calling grandma a dumb c**t won't help her overcome Alzheimer's and only serves to further isolate.
Nobody wants an actual mental illness, attention prostitutes just want unearned pity, sympathy, and most of all attention. In doing so, they distort public perception of what mental illness is and looks like.

Sadly there are probably several of him running around undiagnosed and unable to receive treatment, even if arrested since many states have closed or de-funded mental health facilities and treatment centers. Alabama for instance dumped their mental patients on the street when the last treatment center closed. Now there are a bunch of mentally ill people who are now also homeless people.
No, it's because Joel decided to make Dream BBQ a game, despite admitting to having very little knowledge on game development/design. The time it's taking is what made a lot of people lose interest and move on to other things. though I can agree all of the ukraine shit didn't help either

Making a game takes a lot more time than making an animated short. Plus, Joel can't stop adding characters.
