Why was this show just completely forgotten about in pop culture after the 2000s?

Because War on Terror was out of fashion then.

I just find it interesting, watching it now a lot of the supporting actors are recognizable guys like Dennis Hopper and Xander Berkeley. Seasons are pretty long, and the multiple frames of one shot, the countdown gives it a fast pace urgency. Storylines aren't standalone and episodic like Miami Vice, but it captures the 2000s in a similar way. The 2000s have started to make a comeback but Bauer clutching a flip phone screaming at a girl who looks like Howard the Duck to hurry up hasn't made a comeback yet.

What I like about 24 is that the action scenes are quick, there are no slow-mo or different cuts when it comes to big action set-pieces, shit just happens and the scene moved on.

I always think about that, you'd think trains would be an easier target right? They're always packed, no security, bags everywhere

I think some crazy shit happened in a Japanese subway but that's about it. Everybody seems to get thwarted down there. Even just a guy sneaking a Glock with a switch onto a train, you'd think that would've happened already, if it did nt wasn't significant enough to remember.

There were the July 7th attacks in the UK. "Only" 39 people died from 3 separate train bombs going off at roughly the same time. Even with a completely unprepared populace and London rush hour trains, that's minimal damage. Was probably not worth the bombs.

Oddly enough the "War On Terror" killed the X-Files.
Fox then owned by Newscorporation couldn't have people questioning the government and it's new neocon President and war machine.

I think a lot of things get forgotten about quicker these days because the parody genre has almost completely died off. I vaguely recall adult swim trying to do a show in the same vein but other than that I can't recall any big name parodies of 24.

Well, the villain groups got more diversified in the later seasons at least, from your typical Russians, Chinese, military-industrial complex Illuminati-types to African warlords.

24 was a conservative fantasy in a lot of ways but it was more evenhanded than it was often given credit for

      >The Democratic presidents are all heroic paragons of moral virtue, the Republicans are inept and ineffectual at best, outright criminal at worst
      >The radical Islamist terrorists are almost always tools of American capitalist interests who want to utilize terrorism so they can enrichen themselves in the aftermath
      >Many of the villains were a result of American 3-letter agencies interfering in foreign affairs and getting innocents killed in the process with the bad guy of the season wanting revenge
      >Jack Bauer converts to Islam in season 7 when he thinks he's going to die

I member reading articles about how 24 glorified torture and presenting it as something that always works and is necessary. And yeah, Jack/CTU got a lot of vital intel from torturing people, but they never mentioned how you can see Jack steadily devolving into a shell of a human from all the horrible shit he has to do.

24 is a very 2000s cultural thing, one of the rare things you can point to and say 2000s, its whole thing is based off post 9/11 paranoia and jack bauer is like beating the shit out of terroists.

i think they tried bringing it back but they cast a black guy as the lead and no one watched it lol

Still don't know why they didn't bring back Kiefer to end it, it's not like he got canceled or something. It's like some weird self-sabotage on Fox's part. Oh well, it's never been more over for the series anyway now that Disney own Fox.

Some prominent Russian politician died in a God forsaken prison recently, it would be topical to dust off Bauer and have him escape. Do some goofy Reznov Black Ops violent escape, team him up with a Ukranian or Russian dissident.

It was straight to the point and a network show, which means it had a lot of casual viewers, but not the same longevity as other shows that were meant to be discussed and analysed to death on forums. Also seem to remember that Fox put the hammer down hard on anyone uploading clips to Youtube.

Shouldn't the series be fitting for today's audience with the binge format?

After 10 episodes, shit gets stale. 24 episodes also forces the writers to come up with loads of filler.

I've seen seasons of 8 episodes that had more filler than an average season of 24.

Keifer reneged on his agreement to provide original voice work for the pinball machine, causing Stern Pinball to cut back plans for the software, greatly limiting the number of playable modes in the game. Ultimately, it ended up being one of the lower selling games of the era.
