Salavation could've been 10x times better if they used the original cyberpunk aesthetic instead of what they did. Even with the dumbass plot

are you referring to the T1 T2 future scenes as cyberpunk? i'd consider those outright grungy apocalyptic.
salvation was 65% there with the aesthetic but still too glossy for my tastes
not a good use of shadows and mists either which would have served to make things feel hidden and suspenseful.
for the record, i enjoyed salvation

of course it wasn't a good use of the shadows, someone was fricking around with the lights

They didn't have any neon laser guns, no giant tracked robots, and the hunter killers were trash. It was so stupid for them to think the humans should use regular guns

I mainly dont like the machine's redesign. They could've been the same designs as the flashbacks, but probably some producer said "these are too 80's, make them slick, do they come in black?". And no lasers, what the hell? Also the whole aesthetic of foggy blueish nights arent there, most of the movie is madmax with robots

Yeah, I get it, I felt cheated too.
There was lore explaining why we didn't get those YET and I honestly would have been fine if we got a hint of them, along with more T800s and maybe a T1000 followed quickly by a salvation sequel showing that but frick McG.

I feel like its easily justifiable by saying "oh, its 10 years or so before kyle is sent, the technology is not at lasers level yet", but thats not the real reason, the real reason is that either the director or the producers didnt felt confident with the "weird" aesthetic and tech so they made it a little closer to normal tech with bullet guns and so on.

To be fair to Salvation, I always had the impression that the lack of infantry based energy weapons and the Resistance's use of conventional military strategy was because its set in an earlier stage of the war, before Skynet miniaturized plasma weapons and whilst the Resistance still had aircraft and naval units it could field and behave like a conventional military.
Only later on, when those tactics don't work, and presumably when Resistance loses more military assets, combined with Skynet consolidating its hold on North America, do they transition to what we see in the Future War flashbacks.
Its not perfect but it gels a little with Reese being basically a kid in Salvation, rather than a veteran adult.

This is what you fricks refuse to realise and it MAKES SALVATION KINO. You wanted “gritty future war” and you got it, but “uuhhuuu muh lasers, muh constant darkness “

Yep. And all future attempts failed hard. Only Bale was somewhat half there.

Salvation should have been the last movie, complete the loop and show how everything looked from the future side. But Hollywood israelites got too greedy and wanted to make it into another trilogy, which they obviously failed to do. And that was the end of the franchise as a whole.

I don't even know if I want a Terminator that takes place in the future at this point. I'd like to think it's all prevented. Plus we all know John apparently dies to send Kyle to the past. No need to see anything before.

        Anonymous

Oh I definitely think they prevented it. But it's just fun to see as a what-if or prequel like thing. The game did it well enough

John is assassinated after achieving final victory by the last Terminator, a true cyborg combination of genetically engineered vat-grown human with cybernetic upgrades including an integrated chip to prevent free thinking. It's a trap John set up using himself as bait so he can die as he lived, removing threats from humanity

        >John Connor is plagued with visions of his numerous deaths across the series
        >Fricking with time has caused this, and he resolves to end it once and for all
        >Sends a resistance assassin back to silicon valley in the 70's to kill the founder of Cyberdyne
        >Skynet sends a fireteam of terminators, who withhold the truth from the founder that they're unfeeling hyperlethal machines by portraying personalities, brainscans from captured resistance deserters and bandits.
        >Assassin uses traps and subterfuge to pick off each Terminator one by one, while also avoiding the others (and the police searching for him.)
        >Founder begs and pleads for his life, says he wants to help humanity and doesn't want to hurt anybody, completely unaware of the future his inventions cause
        >Assassin, having spent his entire life in the future created by the Founder, kills him.
        >Assassin prevents entire future war from happening, but is stranded in the new reality he created, and resolves to assimilate into 70's California and lives the rest of his natural life in peace.

wtf would even lead to having those y scars?

Faces have a habit of ripping instead of cutting, it has to do with the smaller muscles layered under the skin and the connective tissue being thinner. Those nice neat "mark of cain" scars that go right over and under the eye are 99% bullshit. Usually the blade catches somewhere on the stroke and you get a nice flap of skin torn off the side, it looks like john was unlucky and got it on both the top and bottom so something cut right into the side of his face.
