The world ending in 2012 makes sense because not only did the Mayans supposedly predict it, but some people believe that the discovery of the Higgs Boson along with the emergence of viral trends on a global scale like Gangnam Style and the Harlem Shake altered the fabric of reality and fundamentally changed our dimension into a hellish one. It would explain why nothing's felt right ever since.

We should create another calendar division with 2012 being the year of demarcation. Everything before 2012 is OW (Old World), everything after 2012 is NW (New World)

They didn't "forget" how to make good movies, it's just that their chickens came home to roost. All the DEI crap they pushed into the industry has ruined their own filmmaking and they have to abide by it now. It's not just movies and video games. Everything possible product is getting worse. The competency crisis is real. It's gonna be a while before this collapses in on itself and better people come in to show how its done.

Don't really care about Furiosa and found her the least interesting part of Fury Road (after Joe's Wives themselves), but I will watch this because the action scenes are a work of art in any Mad Max film and I can always do more Immortan Joe and Hemsworth in a role in which he's completely cast against type. I'll ignore Furiosa and watch it for Hemsworth basically.

It's been a while since I've seen Fury Road but I don't remember there being any heavy-handed feminist themes/overtones in it. Perhaps a level headed anon can correct my ignorance? My hope is there won't be any in this one either but we'll see.

I don't mind a female protagonist in an action movie as long as she is still feminine. Think Kill Bill, Alien, etc. What I don't like is when the female protagonist becomes a power fantasy for a woman writer/director or is girl-bossed.

      Anonymous

There's no heavy-handedness in Fury Road, just some female slaves/vassals doing a terrible job of escaping their captors until a crazy man gets involved.
This sequel is a war-story between to rival crazy warlords as told from the perspective of a captured girl. Who only just manages to survive (sans an arm) and is still a vassal to one of them at the time of Fury Road. She'll be resourceful and brave and hopefully that won't trigger snowflakes TOO badly, but signs here are not good.

        >She'll be resourceful and brave and hopefully that won't trigger snowflakes TOO badly, but signs here are not good.
Indeed they are not. If the woman isn't in the kitchen making sandwiches /misc/cels will be up in arms. Frankly I want to see women be resourceful and brave, as long as their 'strength' comes from a place of female nature, and not a woman trying to put on male 'strength', which is something different.
