This is one of the few Mary Sue Deus Ex Machinas I let slide. It wasn't that uncommon in the 90s for kids to explore Linux.

The joke is that if Hollywood remade this film, zoomer Lex (they/them) wouldn't be able to use the computer and they would all die

Just like the first movie they'd rewrite the original story (boy was the oldest and the computer wiz) and go for a black transgender ftm who's super nerdy and knows all this boomer computer shieeeet n stuff.

In the reboot, Nedry will slip racist coding into the DNA on the dinosaurs so they would specifically target Ray Arnold in the shutdown. It will be called the White Rabbit Object. It makes the dinosaurs act like white men, making them aggressive & territorial (colonizing the island) and causing the lesbian paradise of Jurassic Park to come to ruin.

She was from a wealthy, well connected family. Her school probably was some highly rated college prep academy that could afford top of the line SGI machines. Linux was for poorgay college students back then and wouldn't have any of the IRIX goodies we see in the movie.

Reminder that shes a retcon. In the book shes the younger sister and does almoat nothing besides cry because shes fricking 8, Timmy is the one that figures out the computer system. And its a completely unique system so theres no macguffin about just knowing how this multimillion dollar totally hand made system works, he spends a ton of time just clicking on shit until he figures it out. Movie lex is just a israeli girl power fantasy.

I understand Spielberg wanting to make the girl seem strong but he shit on all the 80s boys who embraced personal computers. (never saw a woman interested in computers until facebook became a thing)

Well I mean I understood because around that time the media was heavily pushing the narative of strink women
Hell it was in my highschool agenda..
But yeah instead of equalizing the genders they shit on the boys.

            >three computer people in the book were white guys, one young, two old, one villain
            >in the movie the young one is the girl now and one of the old computer guys is now black, the villain remains as the fat white guy
            Nostalgia blinds everything.

Arnold's race isn't stated in the book. He's just described as "a thin, tense man of forty-five".

            >Jurassic Park, where the hero of the story (Grant) is a fundamentally good paleontologist who learns to be a father figure (white male)
            >Minority Report, where the hero of the story (Tom Cruise) is a fundamentally good cop (white male)
Yeah totally trying to subvert civilization by casting strong, heroic white males who save the day in all his blockbusters

Book Lex serves no purpose except to raise the stakes and increase tension because she's a helpless little girl but that would quickly get annoying in a movie. Audiences hate characters like that even if their behaviour is realistic. Tom Cruise's daughter in another Spielberg flick War of the Worlds was like that and audienced complained about her crying and being terrified as a 10 year old girl facing alien invaders exterminating mankind.

The "Boomers" were busy using their adult body weight to keep the door closed so the raptors wouldn't get in and kill everyone. Whether or not they knew anything about using the computer system is unclear. As academics, it's quite possible they had extensive access to university computer systems, but certainly no guarantee that they ever made use of that access. Being a young grad student, Ellie likely would have been current on whatever the university was using. Grant on the other hand might have been a curmudgeon who hated anything more complex that a fax machine.

Tim should have handed them the gun, but he's also a sheltered ten year old shitting his pants.
