A swordfight would level the playing field with the predator and the commando wasn't well versed in the blade.
not all predators are created equal? The original could be the special forces super soldier and the sequel could be the newbie who only has a few hunts under his belt
they arent the same species, predators takes from the comics and all the big head predators are another race of super-predators that hunt the regular predators
no they aren't
>but muh comics
Wrong board
dont care this is a movie
well morono, even in the movie they explain that
dont
care
then why did you talk to me about it
predator 2 already established that the metal the predators weapons are made of are far superior to any earth metal.
even the 'old' japanese sword should have shattered from 1 hit from the 'super' predator.
i always viewed it as this
predator 1: the predator is a veteran hunter, using only his wrist blade and shoulder cannon.
predator 2: the predator is a young hunter probaly on one of his first big hunts, and uses loads of weapons.
predators: tribe of 'super' predators that even hunt the regular predators, didn't give a shit about honor.
I always assumed that the guy on the left got dealt with quickly, predator didn't even bother fighting him, he just shot him or something to that effect.
Been a while since I saw it but I think he collected his skull as a trophy, meaning he was a worthy opponent
The extra reach provided by the sword gave just enough of an edge to the mob guy. Billy didn't stand a chance with that knife. I liked to imagine he lasted long enough to make one successful block and got one good hit in before getting fricking annihilated.
Billy slipped off the log
The yakuza guy got lucky the Predator didn't sharpen his blade, their wrist blades can cut through most metal known to man
But yeah right is more egregious, at least the Spetsnaz guy rigged claymores on himself to kill one Predator
>their wrist blades can cut through most metal known to man
Not japanese steel folded one thousand time
on thousand times
honestly know nothing about how swords are made. reading that kinda blew my mind and im gonna go on a deep dive, so thanks!
ill save you some time japan has shit steel they have terrible iron ore content in the iron ore low iron so they have to repetadly fold the metal in order to strenthen it
this made super sharp super strong swords and was hard as frick to do
europeans had much better ore so would do single casts ect no folding required but this made heavier less sharp swords
but dont get it fricked up you would want an eu sword 9/10 times because of how difficult it was to make a good japanese sword an eu sword would shatter most jp swords on contact
Damn, that's legit fascinating. Thanks anon!
>this made heavier less sharp swords
Holy frick you are stupid. European sword designs were superior in every way compared to japanese. Including sharpness and weight.
That really depends on what time frame we’re talking about. Swords improved a lot over 1000 years in Europe.
>casting swords
What moronic as frick timeline are you from?
in the film if im not mistaken the guy finds a legendary jp sword from the time of peak samuri when preds would fight them non stop
that sword hyperthetically could have been folded who knows 10k times built to kill preds granting it legendary status
>Not japanese steel folded one thousand time
ah, yes. swords so good you had to carry a back up all the time.
>if guns are so effective why do you carry spare clips? just use a drone strike bro it's more effective and you only need one!!!
moron
They are folded thousand times because the japanese metal used is so shit it would break otherwise. Katanas are shit cutting swords btw, way too thick. They are obly good for killing peasants dressed in rags
The predator sequels are shit
no one talks about the predator solo mission in requiem, it's probably the best predator POV fight scenes in the entire franchise
Fuuuuck. Reqiuem is the ONLY one in the series I haven't watched because everyone always says it sucks. I've almost watched it a dozen times over the years but always picked something else instead.
Because they're focusing on the plot and watching the human story probably. Don't care for lighting etc. I rewatch it every now and then because the fights are excellent, the horror with the human side characters is solid, not too bad. In any predator movie you never get a chance to follow him around, the movies never let the predator breathe, in requiem he's almost the protagonist. You see him work and you can see his competence, like a professional, (that's what I meant by POV) and he stands out in a way that he doesn't in the other movies. I like it. No need to raise the exectations too high, but imo the director and writers managed to capture an angle on the predator that is subtly original. I only wish I never saw the scene with the pregnant woman, I just don't want that sickening visual in my brain. AVP, Predators and The Predator are underwhelming in comparison, and AVP having terrible sound design, predators sound like tigers or something. Not with requiem, I noticed good sound in a few places.
Eh I would still put Predators above AVPR but yeah The Predator is trash.
This is a great explanation, thanks anon! I will defs watch soon, and I'll make a thread about it.
So far my ranking goes
2
>>P1
s 2010
>>AvP
>>The Predator (the Shane Black directed one, which despite some stupid character decisions, I still found enjoyable)
It's also the movie that pushes some boundaries for the franchise on the horror side. Kids getting facehugged and everyone remembers the predalien's visit to the maternity ward.
requim's main problems are
- movie is shot way too fricking dark, you realy need up your tv's brightness and contrast levels to see whats even happening.
- all the human characters are unlikeable, hugely annoying and hog too much screen time.
the movie is only realy worth it for the predator scenes
Well for purist autists like me, I have a hard time watching knowing it’s ultimately non canon and even back then when that was out the window, the story was moronic. The ending implications and events of the film throw the timeline waaay off
Please watch it, it's underrated.
Set expectations on story/scope low. It's basically a slasher/generic small town seiged by monsters story/
Pros
> One of the most badass Predators of the series.
> Great Pred design & suit. Much more traditional than the Pred suits in the 1st AVP.
> Sewer battle & final battle are solid despite lighting.
> Sheriff is likable.
> The actress from 24 is a decent Ripley ripoff, better then the b***h from Covenant
> Great Predalien design & effects.
Cons
> Rest of the cast has minimal likability.
> WAY too darkly lit.
> The Alien suits aren't the best.
> Meh/Weak-ish ending.
> Small town setting is meh.
> The prego slaughter is almost too mean spirited.
> The prego slaughter is almost too mean spirited.
That belongs in the Pro's though
This. It was gruesome and was fitting to the action/horror theme of the film.
under cons and its main flaw is it all seems jammed togeather
it feels like to much is going on and they are reaching to far but on screen its a fairly traditional close film for the most part
it has some great moments is funny is likeable its sadly mediocre in some ways its a good film
Pred in requiem is absolutely bad ass. I thought it was a great movie
homie was a total beast
I don't give a frick I kinda like avp2,1 is dogshit, don't like predators either
the 'wolf' predator was indeed a badass, old veteran hunter, that did solo clean ups for situations that got out of control.
only he didn't count on the predalien being a queen and managing to spawn so many xenomorphs.
Pretty sure all Predaliens in media are kweenz
Even then his powerlevel is pretty way high but the homie underestimated his opponent and didn't call for backup
The second Predator from the meme flick is far smarter and wiser
what movie are you reffering to?
that terrible The Predator, where you have the super predator one wanting to capture the autistic kid, because supposedly autism would make them better hunters?
>it's probably the best predator POV fight scenes in the entire franchise
It would be if you could actually fricking see anything.
That predator scene is honestly great.... until he becomes a moron after few minutes and jouins the rest of the movie in the garbage
I love when he moans for his dead soldier
Nah Predators is fun
Predator 2 is god-tier, frick you.
Predator 2 is good.
yeah its great
>while you studied the blade, I also studied the blade, but better, and more.
that predanigguh folded his laser what, one or two times just to fit behind his back?
Meanwhile my yakboy folded his shit 1000 times
of course he wins.
ywnbj
i just realized a predator movie set in tokyo would be the shit
Really would be kino actually if done properly. Could spin it as a yakuza vs yakuza storlyine so that it isn't a just a modernized copy of predator 2
You don't see him engage in close quarters combat with the commando. He could've just blasted the c**t.
Definitely the coolest 1 on 1 fight in fipm.
Predators are chuds
>spams cloaking technology against a species that doesn't have one
This argument is made every thread and is always btfo by the fact that in every movie the humans ultimately kill the predator(s), usually in single combat
>they give themselves an unfair advantage
And then still lose, so what are you whining about?
Adrien Brody is too badass for this franchise.
Unironically Key and Peele belongs here.
Predators clearly acknowledge warriors stepping up to them in combat. Billy was a special forces veteran with a Bowie looking knife, as opposed to a Yakuza member trained in sword fighting. This is one of the cases where their specialized skills and tools make the difference, namely a longer + stronger Japanese blade as opposed to a small knife built for secondary defense. Billy had his skull taken as tribute either way, which shows the predator recognized the warriors spirit in him and is shown respect by collecting his skull as tribute.
Why haven't we seen a female Predator onscreen yet? They're all over comics.
female predators are supposed to be far taller and stronger then the male predators, and rarely leave their homeplanet(s)
the males need to collect impressive skulls to gift to a female to even be allowed to mate (and they end up leaving with a few broken bones after the deed)
that predator hunterground games, has female preds but their smaller then the males for some reason.
I haven't read the 90s AvP comics in awhile but if that lore holds true, I'm pretty sure all you need to do as a yautja in order to mate is kill a queen. You get your pick of the predpussy then.
Big Mamma when?
she killed batman, when several male predators failed at it.
She did what fricking Darkseid couldn't do. Big Mama is canonically stronger than every DC villain.
she also fricked up marvel
wolverines hand, cyclops and magneto's head.
dc side
ettrigan the demon's head, batman's head.
not sure who the skull to the right of the queen's head is supposed to be, or the skull between the 2 xenomorph drones heads.
Baraka? No idea.
Yeah, she cut off Wolverine's hand, so Predator tech is sharper than adamantium. What does that say about alien blood?
in aliens vs wildcats
the character zealot uses a sword made of a special metal, and she mentions that even her sword is starting to degrade because of the acid after cutting several down.
if batman can make an armored suit that can withstand the acid blood, then the acid isn't that high tier
>Big Mamma when?
>she killed batman, when several male predators failed at it.
Source? When was this? Batman vs predator comics?
What are you guys talking about?
batman's skull is in the pic i posted.
Man it was just an easter egg.
>he doesnt remember Predators was made and released during the "Pirates vs. Ninjas" era
we will never get based machiko as the protag in a predator or aliens vs predator movie.
-badass japanese woman
-earns the respect of predators
-accepted in the tribe, but some still give her a hard time.
-hunts xenomorphs
He put up a good fight as depicted in a comic.
Accept that an asian with a katana has superpowers or face his manlet rage
I personally can't stand being kicked in my shins but it's your choice
This is why weaboos are always laughing stock
I didn't expect such cringekino to make it into Hollywood production though
Predators was always shit
And again we see how The Franchise killed Cinema.
Predator snuck upon Billy.
