    1. It was probably generational

Didn't the kids move in with the aunt AFTER the actual shoe salesman's kid disappears and they presumably wither and die in depressed anguish?

No they don't. The Parish family were there a long time, given his father mentions the dormitory of the fancy boarding school he wants Alan to go to is named after his own father. So they're old money and that shoe factory has probably been there for generations.

They owned a factory and I assume their product was at the same level as Florsheim at the time.

      >men go to work while women stay home and maintain the household
      >NNNNOOOOOOO!!! We want to do work too!
      >women competing for men in the same jobs increasing the demand while keeping the supply stagnant
      >companies increase pricing on homes and goods because houses continue to become dual income
      >now work and house care have to be split evenly because everyone has to work to afford a home that previously required one working person
Women really played themselves. Dragged all the men down to getting priced out of luxury and guaranteed that they would have to get a job and do housework anyway. It would be funny if it weren’t so tragic.

I was sad when I learned the entire house is just a fake front with nothing behind it. Until like 2006 that lot was still empty and you could see the remnant of the movie driveway still visible https://youtu.be/WPwScvad83s

He had a 40 year mortgage, or at least I'm pretty sure they made that joke.

        Anonymous

Why is a 40 year mortgage a bad thing? You get the same rate for the life of the mortgage while in other nations they have to use the current interest rates every 5 years, which means you get fricked when interest rates rise like now

Still a house like that is very expensive to maintain. On top of having to support four people and a car. And then in Modern Family he does even less work and has unlimited money and time to go on adventures with his wife’s son.

the factory closing down destroys the town, it's a shithole by the 90s when the modern part of the film starts, so it was essential to the economy of the area, hardly a stretch the owner would have a grand old mansion

Jumanji is pretty fricked up when you realize that the Peter and Judy we've been with the entire movie get blinked out of existence when the game ends/resets.

I thought it was the opposite. Women displacing men from their careers and ending up unmarried and childless in their forties.

It is. Women working means men have to compete with literally everyone.

        Anonymous

It entirely depends on the history of women entering the workforce. The implicit demands.
In the US, they just eat propaganda while they watch tiktok because we needed them for the war and not really any other reason after except political.
In Germany, where it was gradual since they forgot to show up to the war economically, I doubt men suddenly expect things from women, but basic performance is like the only thing they know to expect from human beings anymore. Much higher productivity.
If anything, it's a matter of how you herd the cattle, not whether or not the working woman is complete willing livestock.

So in the new timeline, he was rehired and got to recreate his prototype right? Surely that must have taken Parrish Shoes to the next level and made Carl a millionaire to have the headstart on the evolving sneaker market compared to its real life history of development.

Every time zoomers complain about this, they seem to forget that the internet did not exist. The amount of small parasitic purchases that are constant drain on finances largely werent a factor. As such, any given income went further than today because there was less for people to spend it on.
