A lot less than I was expecting. There’s still at least one pozzed moment per episode which you can’t really escape from in any American media anymore, but you can generally try to gloss over it.
It definitely takes getting used to and there's plenty of hit or miss comedy in all three seasons, but I'd say the series as a whole gets steadily better over time. Season One stumbled a bit, but it had some really solid episodes in it, same with Season Two (with a terrific mid-season two-parter), and Season Three is mostly good so far.
And as much as I hate to admit it, the humor grew on me. There's plenty of bad pop culture one liners that don't land, but then there's bits like a B-plot where Bortus and Klyden become nicotine addicts and they milk it for every fricking gag you can think of and all of them land.
Just finished SNW. It's obviously better than Hispanic and STD but it's still maybe a 4-5/10. There's some actual gold and a decent amount of okay stuff but it's still mired in shit. Every single episode has massive flaws and the show still has fricking awful lighting. Anytime they dealt with the "universe" such as Vulcans or Kirk or Pike's arc it was fricking terrible. Some of the attempts to be camp were forced rather than natural which ruined them. Una's scenes were obviously filmed on the first day so she could leave because she got the least screen time of anyone, and the pilot was fricking annoying, but the other characters were okay.
I like SNW considering the small sample suze, hate Discovery, NuTrek and JJTrek passionately. is it prime timeline Trek? not at all and they need to make that clear.
I'll give the writers and showrunners credit for making a watchable show.
only things I want is at a 15-20 episode season and the creators to say it's a different timeline. say it's the timeline Rios created by staying behind. solves any continuity errors.
memory holing Discovery would be a nice bonus. never mention its existence again

If you only saw a clip or two from an end of season space battle I can see why you'd not catch the charm of the show. It doesn't do huge space battles particularly well, it does TNG style character interactions and diplomatic stuff a lot better. You should give it a shot. It's a fun show. It also tackles some heavier themes that modern Trek seems to shy away from for some reason. It really is more classic TNG type trek. Which isn't for everyone but is refreshing to see today.

First season was meh, second was good, third isn't as good as the second and should really be better given how much time they had.
