There should be a universe where everything didn't get merged.
That's so embarrassing.

Huh. So the rumors were 2/3 true. I heard Snyder on Batman and Aaron on Superman. But they were saying Al Ewing for Wonder Woman, which probably would've been better than Kelly Thompson.
Well, I'll give them all a shot at least.

Marvel sucks dick too. Quit pretending otherwise.
Nah it has to be Waid on Superman. We already know he's not writing Nightwing and that the next project he's working on is one of his favorite series that he's wanted to do for years. The only other character that could be is Superman considering he and Morrison both pitched a soft reboot for the character back in 2000.
This site needs to die. Genuinely one of the cringiest and worst comic places on the internet.
>. Genuinely one of the cringiest and worst comic places on the internet.
Like it or not, it's the best database for comics we got in the long-run now that comicbookdb is dead
comics.org is too niche and comicvine's UI sucks
They should shut down the community aspect of it then. Wasteland of homosexualry.
>Waid and Samnee reuniting at DC
>Not to write there Nightwing
Weird.
But yeah holding out these rumors are wrong and we get Superman 2000
Waid is doing a Supergirl series
>Absolute Universe: Batman by Scott Snyder
Shit
>Absolute Universe: Superman by Jason Aaron
There's a tiny chance it might work, but modern Aaron is not the same Aaron people used to like 10+ years ago
>Absolute Universe: Wonder Woman by Kelly Thompson
Meh
And if they really wanted an "Ultimate DC", they should have started with something other than B/S/WW roster. This just looks like another "All-Star"/"Earth One" thing.
>Snyder Batman is shit but somehow thinks Aaron can write a good cape book to save his life
>Snyder Batman is shit
The last time Snyder's Batman wasn't shit was pre-Flashpoint Detective Comics.
>Aaron can write a good cape book to save his life
There's like 0.001% chance he succeeds somehow, and I really want him to.
It wasn't perfect but leaps and bounds over anything we have gotten in the past 10 years. Aaron doesn't work on cape shit. Even his indie stuff is hit or miss. Completely wrong choice for this.
offworld is alright but i do need to catch up
dunno about those AC issues
>1
his AC issues were pretty dull IMO and very similar to his Marvel work
Pretty much. That Uncle Scrooge shit this week was awful. Big 2 work complete kills what he is good at.
yeah that Scrooge issue was just his Avengers run in microcosm starting Disney Duck characters, and now we are getting random what ifs from Marvel, I wonder what the point of them even publishing Duck comics even is
I do wish Marvel would publish new comics with Donald and Scrooge that aren't connected to Marvel in any way.
maybe once they are finished doing the random What ifs
Yeah, Batman Off-World is great. I know his Avengers run wasn't good, but this mini sure is. So I'll give him a shot on his new Superman book.
mahnke was the real draw(heh) for me
The art is really fantastic and definitely a big part of why I like the series so much.
have a nice day shill
Genuinely worse than I expected. I’d held out some glimmer of a hope too. This is awful news.
I think it's deeply fricking funny that every time DC has tried to copy the success of the Ultimate universe they've frick it up. It's insane to me just how bad they are at rebooting.
It should be
>Absolute Batman
>Absolute Doom Patrol
>Absolute Cyborg
>The Absolute League
All building up to a crossover against Batkek
It's just the same buttholes who have been writing this shit for decades. Does anyone have anyone new?
More like Absolute State of DC
>Absolute Universe: Batman by Scott Snyder
I don't get the point of this he has already done a Batman and Detective multiple in fact feels a bit random to give him a new universe just so he can write Batman...agein
How good is Kelly Thompson at suckibg dick to keep getting work?
DC doesn't need a 2nd continuity when they can't keep their first straight.
They should just give up on continuity and tell mostly unconnected, evergreen stories like in the 50's where what happens in Flash doesn't matter to what happens in Green Lantern.
>They should just give up on continuity
it feels like they already have it's not like any of the Batbook right now connect to each
They've been doing that since like 2020.
Clearly, they're not because everything has been building to Absolute Power, which will set up Absolute DC.
I'm not even sure why people care about continuity anyway. I'd rather just have good stories. People who start seething about this shit are usually the most autistic people alive.
It pays off your investment in reading when a call back happens, it's serves as the skeleton for the shared universe and is the guardrails for redundant storytelling.
If universe is shared there needs to be an agreed upon order of events. In the 70's when DC's loose continuity began to collapse on itself they were telling stories where characters who knew each other from previous issues were meeting for the first time to the point where readers were noticing and writing in about it, which is what inspired DC to do Crisis.
In Marvel, these mistakes happen as well, but they just ignore the reader and the mistakes as the printed story is paramount there.
DC, since Crisis is built outside in. The universe is the most important and individual stories are secondary, even this Absolute DC which is supposed to be a new reader fresh universe will have a in main universe explanation for existing.
I appreciate the response. I've just never understood people who fly off the handle about this kind of thing. Keeping it all together seems like an impossible task but I'm not one of these people who is hung up on that kind of thing. I just want good comics.
I think that lore and history and the shared universe is a huge part of what attracts people to Marvel and DC though. And knowing that it all takes place in one universe helps encourage people to check out other books in the line. There's just so much reason to keep all this stuff.
People buy comics for a myriad of reasons. People follow writers, artists, characters, secondary market trends ect ect.
Continuity is just another fish on the hook
>seems like an impossible task
I just never understood people who say this
How would you do it, anon? I'm genuinely curious
By not letting writers do whatever they like or treat each run like a self-contained universe. You know, how cape comics were made for decades.
That’s because in the 40s-60s, DC knew comics were for kids so the same readers in the present weren’t the same ones from 7 years before.
This continuity didn’t matter.
Then they noticed the readership stayed throughout and they knew they had to change their game plan.
>They should just give up on continuity
They already did (at the end of Death Metal) and that made things infinitely worse.
People care about continuity because that is the ONLY reason to even read 99% of this crap. You can say you'd rather have good stories, but that's not a trade anyone's offering; you can have garbage stories with continuity, or garbage stories without. And with is better, because it lets people pretend any of this matters.
>before it even started
I think you mean before it ever sharted.
>Absolute
Have they stopped doing Absolute Editions? If not, that seems like deliberate confusion.
DC actually stands for dumb c**ts, dubbleplusstrufax.
I genuinely can’t imagine paying for a single comic from any of these three writers. Snyder overstayed his bat-welcome by about 12 years, Jason Aaron has never written a good comic for either of the big 2 and Kelly Thompson has written even fewer good comics.
Only shills pushed the idea that Off-World and Aaron’s AC issues were anything but dog shit and it was because he was given those gigs to serve as some sort of palate cleanser to make his stank go down less poorly after avengers and punisher made him public enemy number 1. In reality he’s been one of the worst cape writers over the last decade and a half.
Universe: Wonder Woman by Kelly Thompson
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ENJOY YOUR NOTHING RUN
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ENJOY YOUR BEST RUN EVER but also at least two characters that are full of childlike innocence and speak weird.
the absolute state
I started it for the X-books and I’ll continue it for this.
Any other big rumors? I'd heard about Lemire potentially on Flash, that seems like it could be the lines saving grac assuming Sorrentino stays away
I'd go nuts for Tradd Moore Green Lantern
They should just put Jeremy Adams on Flash again. He didn't want to leave when they took him off, and everybody was loving what he was doing with it.
Given that it'll probably be Barry again, that'd probably be a bad idea, I already can imagine how mad people will be
Character-wise, Superman is supposed to be less goody-two shoes and more "Heroic Brightburn"
So Earth-1 again
Meanwhile, we don’t even have a regular Aquaman comic.
Maybe Aquaman fans should buy the damn books and he would have one
I bought Aquaman for 7 years between the new 52 (literally THE ONLY new 52 book I paid for) and abnett. Then KSD came in and threw it all to shit. Then it became a diversity book all about Jackson.
If they had an Aquaman book about Arthur written but someone who wasn’t part of the Portland gang I’d be buying it still.
I'm just fricking around, anon. I don't care either way. I don't blame for ditching anything when KSD came around. Hopefully Arthur gets something soon.
Really the only thing I care about is Green Lantern, but there's a 50/50 shot it's going to be about nobody's favorite affirmative action hero John Stewart.
Nobody should have any expectations for any of these dogshit comics at this point given these three are the first announced. It’s just going to be the same godawful writers doing more of the dumb shit they were already doing now with even less oversight.
It genuinely saddens me that DC is going to spend hundreds of thousands over the next few years pushing these as they circle the drain and recoup zero cost all because they refuse to cast a wider net of lesser known creators who are willing to write capes with zero of their egotistical proclivities.
This is all such a bad idea that it makes the terrible ongoings they have look better in comparison - and I haven’t been buying any of their ongoings since before future state.
Idk man it’s just sad to see the company driven into the ground like this.
>Idk man it’s just sad to see the company driven into the ground like this.
Don't be anon, they brought this one themselves. Didio's reign is over and they have nothing to show for it. It's better to watch them burn down.
Geoff is leaving DC too.
What has Jim Lee done lately?
Nah it’s sad because I love the characters. I don’t give a frick about the people.
I love the characters too, and I'm showing that love by not buying any of the desecration DC is pushing.
Same
Didio is coming back for Nightwing
You have to sell your soul to get into this industry. The writing is awful because these people are tormented and miserable.
>all because they refuse to cast a wider net of lesser known creators who are willing to write capes with zero of their egotistical proclivities
I doubt that is the reason they aren't selling as well.
I don't even think Kelly Thompson is a real person. There's literately no evidence to support it.
why would your big brand refresh be guys who have already written the fricking books?
I still don't get it.
Is this "Absolute %name%" another overhaul of the entire DC universe (like New 52), a whole new imprint with all the heroes being younger and more "modern" versions of themselves (like Ultimate Marvel), or just another Elseworld to be published alongside the Earth-1 series? Will there be more than these 3 titles, like JL, The Flash, GL, Aquaman etc, or are these the only ones we'll get in the near future?
>a whole new imprint with all the heroes being younger and more "modern" versions of themselves (like Ultimate Marvel)
It’s this mixed with
>just another Elseworld
It’s not at all confusing in all honesty
Was that leaker saying Wonder Woman was going to be Native American bullshitting?
That happened already with 5G that later became Future State. You're getting you leaks mixed up.
DC should reboot the main universe again. It’s the only solution they have.
>DC should reboot the main universe again
This, I agree with you. But they're so afraid of making another mistake, the New 52 really broke their minds, and they probably believe that Gunn's new movieverse will somehow get people to read DC comics again, because otherwise I don't know what their long term strategy is, they're losing not only to Marvel but also to Image, and things will get even worse if this Absolute DC thing flops.
They need to go a little drastic than that. They need to end the current story they're telling and like the silver age relaunch that reinvented Golden Age heroes into more sci-fi heroes they need to reinvent the DC characters again into a new direction only keeping the brand names.
>Updated for modern audiences
because that always goes well
>because that always goes well
They have nothing to lose at this point. Either risk and try to appeal to the modern audience, or slowly descend even deeper into irrelevance.
they absolutely need a change, but just rebooting the characters with the same old stale writers and editors won't change anything. They need to clean house entirely, complete industry outsiders. Fricking hire fans at this point, it can't turn out worse than what we have now.
>They need to clean house entirely.
Fricking this, we need new blood and no diversity hires. Or go public domain atp.
Honestly, public domain would be the best option. It would be interesting to read what Cinemaphile could collectively do with these characters.
There won't be any major character reboots like what happened with some of the Golden Age characters getting a sci-fi twist in the Silver Age. Consider the difference between Alan Scott and Hall Jordan lore. It's big enough that with a few changes Hall could be a different ip. Now also consider how many times creators said they got screwed over by DC and Marvel when it comes to proper compensation. Didn't Marvel just settle with both the Kirby and Ditko estates in the last 5 years?! Seeing all that why would any creator give their best ideas to these companies only to get pennies while the companies make millions? They're better off taking the next Hal Jordan or Barry Allen to image.
Hal and Pals are fricking wasted on DC.
They should NOT hire fans to write for them. If they want to know what people like or dislike, they should run a popular poll like Shonen Jump. This way, people who actually buy comics can share their opinions and influence decisions.
Worked in 1956 when they created Barry Allen and Hal Jordan.
The characters wouldn't be updated they'd be replaced with new characters who share the same codename. Mythologies, powers, all that stuff should be different. Only Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman remaing the same.
Brand new story, not connected to the past until some idiot writer in the future writes Flash of Three Worlds and sets DC back on track for another reboot and Crisis
>Snyder on Batman
How much of a hack do you have to be to want to write Year One twice?
holy amazeballs this so much! the best way to make people come back to dc is to take a hacksaw to the entire universe, destroy everything people like, and replace it with shit that nobody has any attachment to! freakin epic!
no one has any attachment to it NOW, hence the issue
>All Star
>Earth One
>New 52
>Absolute
It's going to be so embarrassing when DC's fourth attempt at ultimate-ing the DC universe gets shit on relentlessly compared to Marvel's second successful Ultimate universe.
>b-but all star and new 52 weren't DC's attempt at Ultimate
I'm gonna listen to Didio, who spearheaded both of those, over some random anons coping.
>Marvel had such success with [Miles Morales and the Ultimate line], and I kept on pointing to that. I thought to myself, We needed that. I tried a couple of times — the All-Star line was supposed to be a shot at that, the Earth One books were supposed to be shot at that. They were good as stand-alone concepts, and we got some great work from that, but it didn’t drive a line. And ultimately, the only way it works is if you drive the cohesiveness of the line. We were doing it piecemeal, but to really make an impression, to really catch the attention of the marketplace, you had to do something dramatic. And ultimately, that’s what turned into the New 52.
