There aren’t really any other professions (maybe some politicians) where people outside their industries feel entitled to come up to them and tell them what a huge fan they are. Every time that happens to one of these people it reinforces the difference between them and regular people. Also they have to decide how to respond: magnanimously signing an autograph and taking a picture or coldly dismissing them or grateful with the caveat that they would prefer not to be disturbed at that moment for whatever reason. If that is true I don’t think it comes from a place of “everyone outside the industry is less than me” but rather “these people don’t understand that I have to deal with this same situation constantly”
