the film would be about the shattering i think. im not even agreeing it would be impossible to make one about "the tarnished" but a story about the golden family breaking up and going to war with each other would be more interesting imo.

I thought Elden Ring was really not that good. Budget Dark Souls (yes, I know it's budget was higher, but it didnt feel that way)
copy and paste dungeons with reused fights
all the fights were a total joke too, I just walked through the game without any challenge at all, which is maybe why so many people loved it. And I am pretty mediocre at games like this
      Total step down from Sekiro

      >uses summons and youtube OP ontent creator hype weapon
      >complains the game is easy
thats why "souls veterans" havee been saying since dark souls that you need to self limit yourself so the game is more rewarding and fun. these games have always had OP builds and playstyles. even in dark souls 1 you could spam jump attacks with great weapons and trivialize like 90% of the content. Once you get the mechanics down you are suppose to actually roleplay a build or go for style points or its just too easy.

        Anonymous

I didn't summons nor did I use meme weapons like bleed, I literally started playing a caster but the game is so broken when you use magic I had to stop doing that, so my build is literally 50% of my points put into magic even though all I used was the scythe for physical attacks
        >dude just don't use half the things in the game so it's balanced
and even when I do that it's broken easy
and again, I'm mediocre at these games. I'm not trying to brag I'm super skilled cause I'm not. The game is so easy it's actually just boring

oh look, anotther boss, press X three times and onto the next one. Just tedious as frick

Just set it before the shattering. The only downside is that any living demigods not in the game can probably be written off as "Not gonna make it" for gamegays but that's really minor.

Especially when the creator himself doesn't know dick all about the lore.

      >Crucible
      >ER
      >Shattering
Nobody clearly knows what the frick any of these mean. The title of the game is a subject of speculation and debate because there is no clear in game explanation. The event the game pivots around is unexplained. Why did Marika shatter the ER? Who tf knows, never explained by any character despite interacting and directly speaking to multiple demigods/empyreans. What in the ever loving frick is the crucible?

Pic related is ER. Miyazaki and fromsoft have been doing this for years. They find cool photos on the internet and copy them. Then they add in ad hoc fever dream story in post with intentional gaps. It's always been a visual reference experience rather than a narrative experience.

Go ahead and explain it then. No dodging: what is her motivation for shattering the ER? What are the actual effects of shattering the ER? IE what function was an intact ring performing before that is not happening now? Because the rune of destined death and its effects is not the ER.

not that anon, but i think the lore is one of several options that it intentionally leaves ambiguous on purpose so you can decide which one you like better.

marika either thinks that the ring needs to be continuously shattered and rebuilt in order for the lands between to exist properly and not decay into stagnation. a cycle of rebirth essentially.

or she was trying to defy the greater will, having lost her faith that the greater will was the most divine and had the lands between's best interest at heart.

or she felt that faith in the greater will shouldn't be blind, and that people need to dissect and examine the nature of their faith, and this is represented by breaking the elden ring and examining its pieces.

and honestly it could be a combination of the three.

Or get filtered by the fricking swinging axes in Sen's Fortress
ER only teaches you how to be a gay little cheesy homosexual, not actually git gud.

the previous souls games had cheesy stuff that made the games super easy too. dark souls 1 had poise and the great weapons were really OP for example. ER has more combat mechanics, with better designed bosses overall. Its too bad they let players dual wield and spam jump attacks with so little investment/cost. tbh

Seems to me malenia is the only one fromsoft has made in like 10 years that has caused as big of an uproar as it did, and not just from "that one attack" but basic b***h poise and flinching/stagger mechanics that have been in the series for over 10 years that are suddenly "unfair" because it is applied to a boss.

Keep in mind "that one attack" can be countered with a shield, and otherwise nothing she does is even remotely close to unfair.

That doesn't answer his question. Personally, I'd put it below Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and even Bloodborne.
Part of the reason is the copypasting, but the game's content just feels very thin and unfocused throughout. There's a satisfaction I got from the atmosphere and style of those games whereas the only thing that compelled me to keep playing Elden Ring was being able to make a broken bleed+frost powerstance build faster and faster. Is it compelling enough to replay this 70 hour game when Demon's Souls takes 20 hours and feels more varied? Absolutely not.

I was observing the discourse over the background between Malenia and Radahn a few weeks ago and found it interesting (I never saw the trailer and hadn't come across any lore about it in my playthrough). Reflecting upon this, I have concluded that intrigue is a very cheap way to hold someone's attention. If the story was told to me conventionally, idk if I'd have found it very interesting, but now even superficial details are obscured from view. I found Doom Eternal's lore surprisingly compelling to read on a wiki long after I concluded the story was one of the most moronic things I'd ever seen.
You watch The Thing, you realize the meat of the story isn't about what The Thing really looks like or where it comes from, but it's about the suspicions the characters have about eachother, and I find it compelling as shit every time I watch it. I'm also reminded of a line by one of the writers of Blade Runner (maybe Peoples) on the Deckard question that it's the question that people want and that the answer is stupid. To mention The Thing again, you don't want to be told whether McReady or Childs is The Thing at the end; you want to weigh the options in your head and with others. People want that question because it's like the satisfaction of solving a puzzle, so cryptic intrigue is somewhat intrinsically stimulating to a person, like making numbers go up. When you have intrigue with little behind it, it's all flash without substance, which is how I feel about Elden Ring's story and characters.

      >someone creates a way to prevent the trees incarnation cycle and use it as a weapon, kills one of the main people in the golden order

      >tarnished player goes around collecting the great souls of the golden order to bring them back to the erd tree (you literally cant progress in the story unless you get a certain number of them)
      >the tree is also telling the player to go kill golden order people to recover their souls to absorb them and bring it back to the tree
      >last boss is the god that created the erdtree who tries to kill the player and reabsorb the souls he aqcuired along his journey.

        thinking man

it is unclear if the erd tree is an alien being that came to earth and parasitically grows off the tree of life/great tree. it is possible that the great tree was the living form of the erd tree, and it died, and then the erd tree is a sort of ghost or spector form of the great tree, thats why the erd tree is often see through, its like a golden ghost of the erd tree, like how after you kill the demigods they often appear as golden ghosts.

there used to be a different way that death worked before the age of the greater will, when the rune of death was in tact, and possibly when the great tree was active, spirits would be consumed by the greater will, and recycled into new life forms, but now, alot of spirits are having difficulty being reabsorbed into teh erd tree, like its now dead or dieing, and also, many peopel just straight up won't die, because the rune of death was removed. so they live in a heal of being essentially a zombie.

its also possible that the mother may have been in on the night of black knives or what ever its called, in any case, her destroying the elden ring wasn't because of her son dieing.

the last boss isn't the god that created the erd tree, its the elden beast, which is just another emissary of the greater will, the greater will is the god that created the erd tree and/or is the erd tree, and no one has been in contact with the erd tree for some time, including the fingers, meaning the greater will might be dead, or asleep, or gone, or just not talking to the people for some reason, maybe the elden ring being broken disables its ability to directly communicate with people, how ever, the protagonist can still see grace, which indicates some trace ability for the greater willt o communicate.

          thinking man

i didn't make it clear by the way i typed but, before the greater will was in the lands between, death worked entirely differently in perhaps a few ways, and remnants of those death systems still appear in the lands between,

death crows and various coloured flames represent these differing death systems, death crows were reapers that would bring people to a different after life before the greater will appeared. there might also be other things that could happen to a soul after death, almost like supernatural forces sort of hunt and fish and compete over the souls of the dead.

        thinking man

you also didn't mention that the reason why marikas son was killed was part of a ritual by ranni the witch.

in elden ring, fate exists, and is originalyl controlled by the stars, which them selves are supernatural in nature, perhaps gods, and then one of the demi gods did a gravity ritual to stop the orbit of the stars, and steal fate from them, now the greater will and his followers control fate.

Ranni the witch wants to destroy fate and give more free will and freedom to the people of the lands between, because rebirth is controlled by the greater will and by the golden order (a religious order which worships the greater will)/

ranni didn't stop the total reincarnation cycle, marika did that her self by taking out "destined death" which is speculated what it means, some people think that it just means like , death as an inevitability, meaning if you get giga fricked you can still die and your spirit is taken out of your body, but short of getting basically obliterated, your body recovers even if its reduced to that of essentially a zombie, thats why alot of people look fricked up in the lands between.

ranni took an aspect of the rune of death to kill marika's son's soul, and kill her own body.

by killing her own body, this specifically allowed her self to be less governed by fate, and less controlled and monitored by the greater will.

then she wants to recreate the elden ring, but with an aspect of the moon goddess of wisdom and conciousness, to imbue the entire lands between with freedom and independence, and then she wants to take the elden ring into outer space, so as to not dominate the lands between as a dictator, but explore the realm of the gods, and give peace to the lands between.

That would require a story - which souls games lack

Every single souls game has the same plot. It's always Buddhist death/rebirth cycles and how you should just accept them.
It's immensely boring and I haven't given one single shit about the plot since the first Dark Souls turning into "oh it's just light the fire good vs formless fog wiping out existence bad".

This and over time the changing names for the same concepts is just eye rolling.
Remembrance? No, no way anyone actually calls it that when it does the same thing as a Boss Soul always has and Soul takes 2 fewer syllables. What's the point of being a new IP if it's closer to Demon's Souls mechanically than some direct sequels in the same IP?
Maybe just try to create some new concepts?

    >Ruling is hard. This was maybe my answer to Tolkien, whom, as much as I admire him, I do quibble with. Lord of the Rings had a very medieval philosophy: that if the king was a good man, the land would prosper. We look at real history and it’s not that simple. Tolkien can say that Aragorn became king and reigned for a hundred years, and he was wise and good. But Tolkien doesn’t ask the question: What was Aragorn’s tax policy? Did he maintain a standing army? What did he do in times of flood and famine? And what about all these orcs? By the end of the war, Sauron is gone but all of the orcs aren’t gone – they’re in the mountains. Did Aragorn pursue a policy of systematic genocide and kill them? Even the little baby orcs, in their little orc cradles?

    Well Cinemaphile?

LOTR takes place in a different Yuga. At that time kings were mystically connected with the land, so it's very realistic as a depiction. It's not comparable to medieval history (Kali Yuga)

Elden Ring's "lore" is all stored inside the item descriptions. The best thing that could happen is trashing all of that shit and just have the silent protagonist wail on the enemies in stunning CGI. It would be an atmospheric bloody action movie.

A trilogy of somwhere between 3-4 hour long films, it's just non-stop walking and fighting with as little dialogue as possible, and all the dialogue that made it into the movies is super cryptic that no one understands what they're talking about and we need to watch million youtube lore explanation and analysis videos

the protagonist has no clear motivation to go ahead and just randomly runs into people that tell him what to do and sometimes he does
