Griffith’s forces were fully aware of the costs when they volunteered to serve under his command. Griffith stated his dream was to establish a nation under his rule, and that those serving under him might be part of the casualties. And guess what: some perished. Yet, somehow, Griffith is accountable for this inevitable tragedy? Despite informing these volunteers entering a contract with him of the consequences?
The honorable Griffith is currently orchestrating a new world order of peace and prosperity. This noble man of humble birth is achieving the impossible: the constitution of a utopian society involving demons and humans living in harmony with one another, a civilization where the rich and selfish have no power, a new World that flourishes on the foundation of equality and brotherhood.
Meanwhile, after Guts abandons Griffith under the pretense of being devoid of finding meaning in his pathetic existence, he still believes he can just waltz in after committing treason. As a result, Griffith is crippled and mute, the cost of living with Guts’ selfish desires. Griffith then punishes Guts for his betrayal. Yet, the merciful Griffith returns to Guts, pleading with this savage for the support of his Utopian pursuit. Guts refuses his generous offer due to imagined past transgressions.
In summary: Guts is the representation of what is wrong with the world--selfish and treacherous. Griffith only desires a world where people like Guts can no longer terrorise the weak and innocent.
Sounds like our own society with israelites hiding their adrenochrome pedophile cult in plain sight. Hell, they had photos and evidence of politicians at bohemian grove naked orgy festival while worshipping moloch statue and its played off as a joke.
It's stated in the manga every branded sacrificed soul goes straight to the "void" or hell to suffer forever.
So even Guts, as shit as his life is, is having a good time compared to what waits him in afterlife
That's not true. The brandeds' fate is to be hunted by demons and apostles until they die. I think there are more afterlives besides the hell we see in the Black Swordsman arc. Otherwise Flora would've been scared of death.
Guts and Caska are destined for the same place as the rest of the band of the hawk. In fact if i remember correctly, anyone that heavely interacts with an apostle is likely to end up in the vortex of souls, even if they were never branded.
Apostles go to the vortex of souls, but it's never said that being around apostles a lot makes you go there too. Maybe you're thinking about how Guts' sword is able to harm astral beings because it has killed a lot of demons. We haven't seen where the dead band of the hawk went.
The guy that the Count mutilated ended up in the vortex and he wasn't branded. He's literally one of the souls that pulls the Count into the vortex.

Right. Is it because he lived near an apostle though? Seems like an unfair rule. My theory is that he went to hell because he sought revenge. But that also seems unfair because his revenge was justified. Maybe everyone in Berserk goes to hell, but I find it hard to accept that characters like Flora go to the same place as apostles when they die.
Yeah I'm pretty such their was nuance in their reasoning for joining like "I don't mind dying for this vision and having Griffith become a ruler" vs "I'm totally okay with my soul being sold out to demons and eternally tortured forever"
Yes, this is true. Most people can't comprehend Berserk because they think about it in Christian terms. So hell for them is Christian hell - in Berserk is an ocean of souls created from negative emotions, not a place where souls are tortured.
Apostles are Christian demons, when in reality they are highly ambitious outsiders givem more power to realize their dreams.
And so on.
it's honorable what he did, he rightfully thought his watertight seal was worth less than the lives of his men... you ARE a homosexual, if only for missing quads
Griffith wasn't gay either, but every bussy has a price. If Elon rolled up to your house and offered you 1 billion to to fuck your ass for a month, you'd take the deal without even thinking about it.
1 - You will always be known as the guy who got fucked in the mouth by Elon Musk for money.
2 - Elon would try to weasel out of it the moment he busted on your tongue.
I was trying to be realistic. No bussy is worth one billion, If Elon ever made that proposition, he'd be paying for companionship with the objective of making you fall in love with him. He'd try to make you gay, but if you're not then, then you leave with a sore ass and one billion dollars richer.
what moron brings a rapier to a fucking fight with a 2h fucking pancake flipper great sword? did he think it was folded a gorillion times superior wapanese steel?
Maybe, but even if he has superhuman strength, I don't think he weighs enough to keep his feet on the ground when he swings that sword. He'd need to weigh at least 2000 lbs, and that's with conservative estimations of the Dragonslayer's size and weight.
>what moron brings a rapier to a fucking fight with a 2h fucking pancake flipper great sword?
Serpico handled himself pretty well against Guts that one time they fought, but he wasn't looking for an honorable duel, he used the terrain to his advantage.
I don't know anything about OPM. How is Berserk turning into it?

Murata (artist of the official manga) and ONE (the original author of the webcomic version) had creative differences and so Murata ended up taking his version of OPM in a different direction on certain plot points iirc.
Important to note that the guy finishing it is miura's best friend that he's been close with since school.
Dude is also a mangaka and pulled several all nighters with miura finishing the eclipse when miura had trouble with that part and miura told him the rough outline of the manga going forward.
So while it's probably not the mellowed-out version of berserk's ending it's the ending miura envisioned in his grimdark edge phase, before he got addicted to idolmaster and e-boicon.
Make of that what you will
At the restaurant I work in we give the customers these tiny biscuits with their coffee, the biscuits are sold in bags of like 200 for £2 and honestly the boss doesn't give a shit if the employees take a couple now and then as a snack, but I feel so guilty when thinking of taking one that I never do cause it feels like stealing. All that to say if I cant steal a biscuit I sure as hell don't have it in me to fuck over all my friends.
Nah I would have been content getting sponge baths from Casca and living the rest of my life as a cripple and maybe getting a visit from Guts and the rest every once in a while. It makes sense since my ambition is nowhere near the magnitude of Griffith's.
>get fucked in the ass for a chance at fulfilling my dreams
Nope. >lust after a man and then drive him away with my weird views on subservience and equality
Nope. >fuck a princess and get myself locked away
Nope. >sacrifice all my comrades to become a demon lord
Hell yeah.
To be fair to him he probably thought it was a small sacrifice to slaughter his friends and comrades in such a horrifying and painful way if it gave him the power to do greater good. But seeing as the godhand are amoral fucks maybe he just didnt give a shit
1997 is okay, ends on a huge cliffhanger and cuts important stuff but on it's own it's a good watch, still inferior to the original source but a decent introduction to see if you like it
1997 one is absolutely worth watching. The "newer" film trilogy is just a cut-down version of the 1997 anime, but the third/final film is still worth watching too.
The 2016 anime (the one you've heard about) must be avoided at all costs.
There's one good adaptation which is the 25 episode 1997 anime. But that leaves a lot out from the source material and drastically condenses the beginning crucial parts of the series. If you're getting into Berserk at all, just read the manga and skip the anime. You can watch the 1997 anime later to see how they adapted certain scenes if you like. That's what I did.
Yes, read the manga. The anime shockingly leaves too many important stuff out. Once you finish volume 14, watch the last 2 episodes of the 1997 anime at least for curiosity's sake. It's fucking kino and the OST is great. Also, don't let people tell you that "Berserk goes to shit after the Golden Age". It doesn't. It's a very well evolved story, nitpicks aside, and there's one major arc later on that's as good and longer than the Golden Age. You don't want to miss that one. Lots of action, KINO, character development, and LOTR-style questing.

>Black Swordsman
fair, it was just a cold open to get the audience on board >Lost Children
absolute kino that explores the Griffith-Guts dynamic through similar characters at different points in their life, has the bet Apostle fight in the series, and establishes why Guts' Black Swordsman lifestyle is unsustainable
Yes. Griffith was tortured every day for the entire year. Most would go insane after less than a month of such treatment. He wasn't responsible for his actions.
By the time the Eclipse happened, the only logical choice was to sacrifice everyone. If Griffith didn't sacrifice them then they would've gotten eaten anyways.
Millennial here. Somehow Berserk always went under my radar because of how popular it was. Is it still worth it to read or is it an "entry level" franchise that I have outgrown by now as an avid connoisseur of Chinese drawings?
Nah, I would have let Guts go. He'd come back eventually. Its not like he would take up arms against Griff. I'd probably fuck Casca to get revenge though.
If you stop berserk after the golden age you have an excellent story and a great setup for a continuation. However it absolutely feels like the author had one story he wanted to tell but no fucking IDEA what he wanted to with it when it was over.
Imo there is nothing noteworthy about any of the parts after the golden age. They're like a collection of short stories that lead nowhere, where the golden age was one huge story with a notable payoff and a great twist. Nothing about the parts after the golden age feels particularly important, having a huge sword and a badass armor is certainly cool but it doesn't really feel like anything that would help him kill a god. Most of the chapters just feels like short stories about how fucked up the world is now, and doesn't really give you the sense that Guts is getting much closer to completing his goal.
The annoying thing is you could of easily had a climax shortly after the golden age arc was completed allowing it to naturally end and have a good conclusion.
But no, as with most shit you gotta keep the ball rolling until either the creator or it's popularity dies.
I'm not a writer but when I first finished the golden arc I thought the next direction was going to be picking up right after the black swordsman arc with Guts hunting down each of the demons before leading up to Griffith/Big Brain god.
Instead it was dicking about from one side story to another and I lost all intrest once the boat happened.
That was the plan until this page when Guts decided that protecting Casca was more important than getting revenge on Griffith. Then the story became about getting Casca's memories back. She just got her memories back last chapter, so the story was about to go in a new direction before Miura died.
>but when I first finished the golden arc I thought the next direction was going to be picking up right after the black swordsman arc with Guts hunting down each of the demons before leading up to Griffith/Big Brain god.
But that's literally what happened though. It just took place over 4 entire arcs instead of over the next 15 chapters for your zoomie brain.
He meant hunting down the god hand since the series started with the edgy part with guts fucking and trying to kill slan right off the bat. Instead of the gay shit we got with him struggling against jobber apostles and boat shit for decades.

How much of a fucking speed reader are you? The female demon that Guts killed at the start was the bitch that ate Corkus during the eclipse. The other 3 demons Guts killed before the Conviction arc were the demons that wiped out the remaining band of the hawk that didn't attend the eclipse and afterwards went on to feast on the ones in the eclipse. By the way the God Hand are interdimensional being, that even the Skull Knight couldn't physically hurt, what the fuck was a human going to do.
The annoying thing is you could of easily had a climax shortly after the golden age arc was completed allowing it to naturally end and have a good conclusion.
But no, as with most shit you gotta keep the ball rolling until either the creator or it's popularity dies.
No I wouldn't. I wouldn't have a dream to rule a nation and then lose focus of it because I fell in love with some guy and then lose my fucking mind when he feels unworthy of being in my presence and leaves until he becomes my equal, even though that's not what I ever cared about because I always treated him as an equal. I would also then not fuck the kings daughter while thinking of him in a grief filled rage and get sent to the dungeon to be tortured until I was a skinless twig barely holding on. Further, I would not then be rescued by that guy who left me and in my weakened state I wouldn't try to kill him for putting me there before remembering how I felt and losing the will to do anything but embrace him. I also wouldn't try to revenge rape his girlfriend after I found out she fucked him and wants to be with him. I wouldn't lose hope in life and decide to sell my soul to the embodiments of evil to achieve my original dream, tearfully sacrificing the man I loved to become the devil and then in a move thats purely for evil, rape his girlfriend until her mind breaks
So what the fuck was the actual plan after Griffith transforms back into his human appearance? My understanding of Griffith's motives after the black sun is: >I'm going to use the apostles and the godhand to create a huge threat to humanity, then appear to them inside a ray of sunshine to rescue them from it >They'll worship me as their savior and i'll become king of all mankind >Hopefully nobody notices I'm the one who caused the calamity in the first place, or that my entire court is packed with nothing but man-eating abominations
Am I off the mark here or what?
You aren't thinking about this in philosophical terms. His and humanity's dream was to create a new better society and world. For this an apocalypse was needed.
his plan seems to be to meme his drema kingdom into reality. He is breaking down walls of reality and ultimately there will be no more humans, everyone will be transformed like in devilman but because of meme magic they will have kind hearts or will no longer comprehend the horror of their situations.
Griffith’s forces were fully aware of the costs when they volunteered to serve under his command. Griffith stated his dream was to establish a nation under his rule, and that those serving under him might be part of the casualties. And guess what: some perished. Holy Griffith cope, what no dick does to a motherfucker.
This looks like a berserk doujin, not berserk. Look at those cock sucking lips
Griffith had DSLs as soon as he was introduced.
Griffith bested Guts - Guts agreed to serving Griffith
Guts bests Griffith, earning his freedom - n-nooo, you are selfish aaa

You got it backward. Griffiths represent selfishness while Guts fights for those he cares about.

2 - Elon would try to weasel out of it the moment he busted on your tongue.

Berserk physics aren't that realistic. Guts shouldn't even be able to swing that sword losing his balance.
yeah but he has super strength due to being half demon

Apparently they're going to try to finish Berserk using bits and pieces of story they had with Miura's assistants doing the art. Are you hyped? I am.

Where did you find that manga he drew about Miura? I can't find it anymore because there's just news about him continuing Berserk now.
It’s moeshit.
Nah I wouldn’t be gay and let 2 people escape and potentially threaten my rule just cause I wanted to dunk on my man crush
I never got the hype for sephiroth lol
Ironically, Griffith predates Sephiroth.
He had a banging theme and his themes of self are very well done.
I would not have, no. That's probably why he's a god and I'm a fat pathetic loser though.
Step aside kid
The fact that Berserk is so beloved by dumb ethot anime girls means that the story is probably super juvenile
(you)
It's a really women-centric story tbh. The author must have been either a gay man or a male feminist.
pedophile, so a bit of both
The only thing he did wrong is fuck the princess without first killing the king, and allowing himself to be caught.

Nothing about the parts after the golden age feels particularly important, having a huge sword and a badass armor is certainly cool but it doesn't really feel like anything that would help him kill a god. Most of the chapters just feels like short stories about how fucked up the world is now, and doesn't really give you the sense that Guts is getting much closer to completing his goal.
that's the opinion most people have (contrarians aside)
the peak is unquestionably the Golden Age arc and it is why it has been animated twice
Basically this
Just finish with the golden age and pretend it ended on a downbeat ending
The annoying thing is you could of easily had a climax shortly after the golden age arc was completed allowing it to naturally end and have a good conclusion.
But no, as with most shit you gotta keep the ball rolling until either the creator or it's popularity dies.
How would you have ended it?
I'm not a writer but when I first finished the golden arc I thought the next direction was going to be picking up right after the black swordsman arc with Guts hunting down each of the demons before leading up to Griffith/Big Brain god.
Instead it was dicking about from one side story to another and I lost all intrest once the boat happened.
That was the plan until this page when Guts decided that protecting Casca was more important than getting revenge on Griffith. Then the story became about getting Casca's memories back. She just got her memories back last chapter, so the story was about to go in a new direction before Miura died.
Had no idea about that. Intresting place to take it just a shame I got filtered by the boat pacing.
>but when I first finished the golden arc I thought the next direction was going to be picking up right after the black swordsman arc with Guts hunting down each of the demons before leading up to Griffith/Big Brain god.
But that's literally what happened though. It just took place over 4 entire arcs instead of over the next 15 chapters for your zoomie brain.

By the way the God Hand are interdimensional being, that even the Skull Knight couldn't physically hurt, what the fuck was a human going to do.
did you not hear the news? It hasn't ended
How does this make you feel
Wrong board fag
who?
Christopher Poole
Berserk is just an edgier Goblin Slayer.
You mean Goblin Slayer is just a neutered Berserk?
why did griffith shag the princess
very silly of him
rebound after breaking up with Guts
the kino is here
>Guts is not gay
Willingly get fucked in the ass?
So what the fuck was the actual plan after Griffith transforms back into his human appearance? My understanding of Griffith's motives after the black sun is:
>I'm going to use the apostles and the godhand to create a huge threat to humanity, then appear to them inside a ray of sunshine to rescue them from it
>They'll worship me as their savior and i'll become king of all mankind
>Hopefully nobody notices I'm the one who caused the calamity in the first place, or that my entire court is packed with nothing but man-eating abominations
Why would everyone be transformed?
because human imperfection/wants/nature disturbs the idyllic kingdom.
Blow up my careful rise to power with rape because my boyfriend walked off? No, I don't think I would
How much of berserk is ripped off from Hellraiser ?
Maybe like 15%
I hate high fantasy so fucking much, berserk turns to shit when demons or whatever are introduced
The VERY FIRST PAGE of the manga is Guts fucking a female demon, how retarded are you?
