I hate indie animation. It doesn't feel like you're watching something real, it feels like a viral video. The sad thing is that this is probably going to be the de facto main form of entertainment forever, since whole generations have been reared on phoneshit.

Indie animation was great back then, but now all the good animators left or upload once a year

sorry industry cuck but the future is now, traditional animation is too expensive for the animation industry to pump out like in the early 2010s and the barrier to entry keeps getting lower every year.

I get the sensation that what you're watching isn't something "real," but more like instead, it's trying to constantly nudge my side and be like
      >ayy, aint this GOOD for an indie animation
      >sure, we don't got the time and money to make it good-good
      >but we do a lot better than most with much less
Aaron Long going for a lot of extra movement and camerawork in S&TM is what I always think of, which is a shame because otherwise it's very nice and watchable.

How is that hard to parse? The way it's doing it takes you out of it, but it's not able to fully accomplish the thing it took you out of it to put a spotlight on, so you're just left out of it and with all things that come with that, so not great to be part of the experience, simple as.

If I was involved in the story, Christianity would have a voice in the production. I may not be educated on the finer details of Christianity - and that is a significant hinderence - but I am ethically and morally aligned with Christianity beneath it all. And having a conversation between Christians and newbie Satanists is an important conversation young people could use.

I know the video. The fact that Fred Seibet stepped down from Frederator and started a new company called Fred Films was mentioned and it was implied that The Summoning may find new life with that group. Allegro was not mentioned at all. Allegro also has a working relationship with Seibert since he produced Bee and Puppycat so she could still be a part of it.

oh, sorry for being shitty then.
Yes, Allegri was involved. Elyse Castro pitched the idea to Frederator's animation incubator and it got picked up, but she had absolutely no experience with animation or the animation pipeline since she was primarily an indie comic artist. Because of that, Frederator put Natasha Allegri on the production to help produce since she had recently finished up work on Bee & Puppycat and could help with the process. Elyse stayed on top of creative decisions, but Allegri knew how to actually make the thing go as well as offer advice as to what ideas would translate well from page to screen and what wouldn't, etc.

                Anonymous

oh okay, that makes sense. Allegri was there due to her animation experience with B&PC and to help out since Castro didn't know much about animation industry.
                >oh, sorry for being shitty then.
no worries. without the question mark, the context of that sentence reads entirely different.

She was at a studio and doing fairly well, but she'd mentioned in an interview that she didn't like that most clients had awful ideas and she was forced to work on shitty designs.
I -think- she is teaching kids art/theater/etc, but I'm not 100% on that. I don't remember if she mentioned it in an interview or if it was mentioned in a livestream she did with her sister (which is on youtube).

I've been keeping an ear to the ground but aside from the non-company related posts that Fred makes on Linkedin (mostly about the industry in general), there really hasn't so much as a peep. Then again, it's a pretty new company and people usually keep things quiet until they're ready to launch so...

Not any I can think of. Did they end up deleting a lot of stuff? If you want to share any of them, that's cool too. It's sad Channel Frederator didn't even make it through the entire 2010s like I imagined. I really had a lot of optimism about what they were doing on YouTube.

That was largely youtube's fault. They changed the algorithm and suddenly it became imposssible to make any real money with animation. Before that, Frederator's model of youtube releases was going to be the way of the future.

Lots of shows don’t get picked up. Long Gone Gulch seemed like a shoe in and that has failed to get network backing.

Why not go the indie route? Maybe the creator just is fine with making comics?

              Anonymous

because going the indie route sucks ass. It's insanely hard to actually finance a project where you can actually make a livable wage and pay the people who work for you fairly. The unfortunate truth is that a lot of independent productions rely on the creators going out of pocket, friends pitching in for cheap or free, etc. Even then, making one episode takes a long time when you have a small crew with a revolving door (and everyone pretty much needs to have a day job on top of that to make things work).

Aside from that, you need to be constantly shilling on social media to keep the project in people's minds and to get people to donate. Some people love the spotlight and live for this sort of shit, but most animators are huge nerds who don't really feel comfortable talking about themselves or constantly taking selfies and doing livestreams.

We're in an exciting time where independently creating animated works is feasible, but there are still very good reasons why people would prefer to work with a network.

                Anonymous

Networks SUCK though. They sometimes get the rights to shows and just SIT on the IP and do jack shit with it. Imagine your baby being held hostage.

                Anonymous

it's the deal with the devil. On the other hand you get access to deep pockets, a PR team, and professional studios/artisans who can make your dream become a reality. When you go indie you need to constantly suck dick online to convince people to give you $5, work with whatever artists you can convince to work on a low budget project (mostly students), deal with people always making your project second priority as they chase gigs that actually pay well, etc.

It's a fricking shame that none of the billionaires in the world are eccentric animation fans. Imagine seeding an animation incubator with 1 billion dollars.

I can't get a good read on Elyse. Part of me thinks that she could be the type to pretend to be grossed out but secretly like it.

        She was originally 12

    >”indie animations”
    >thread is discussing nothing but Frederator pilots, which were co-produced by Sony, giving them massive budgets to work with

yeah, none of the Frederator shows were 'indie'. I think OP just wanted to talk about Claire but realized spamming the same "She's up to no good" thread isn't very effective.

Fred Seibert is based. His philosophy of enabling creators to produce their vision with no meddling is a risky but inspired approach.

Besides the satanic imagery (Boomers are shaking) and the ahead of it's time release, I would say the biggest problem with the pilot was relying too much in the gross out humor; seeing a lot of failed cartoons who relied on that type of humor for me was its biggest reason to not be picked.
Furthermore, the porn parody being more recognized than the pilot itself is not beneficial.

Do you...fricking realize that showing Satanic imagery to kids is 12 steps too far for every cool outcast you looked up to in the past? It's not being mindfully edgy, it's just blatantly evil.

That's my point with the (Boomers are shaking) and why it was never picked up.
Either should be catered to an older audience or strip down all that stuff for younger kids (which is unlikely seeing Elyse mini comics).

One of my personal theories is surrounding the pentagram which may look for some people not only satanic but the fact that is RED may make it look like SELF HARM then she could be judged as a self harm apologist because she's a pale thin emo girl that looks like one. I can see people feeling this way.

Elyse is really into metal. There's a really good chance it was actually supposed to look like she carved it into her forehead.
I'm all for it, but it's also just a pilot. If it was actually picked up that is the sort of thing I could see getting discarded for an actual run.

For all the shows that only make it to pilot, it really makes me appreciate the ones that do make it through to a series. I guess not everyone can be a winner. But for the ones that get a show, even if its short, I hope those show creators enjoyed their time in the spotlight with an animated show of their own.

I tried to get a short made in that program, but they rejected my pitch out of hand, so out of spite, I'm happy to see that none of the shorts got picked up for a series.

This is why you want your execs to be a little autistic: so that they pay attention to the craft even though cheap prostitutes are begging to suck their dicks.
Millennial cool guy execs are just mindless kleptomaniacs with no real purpose.

Millennials aren't really old enough to be in any position of real power yet. The oldest Millennials are barely 40. They're middle managers. The people actually making decisions are Gen X and Boomers.

I don't believe you, anon. Go frick yourself with a rusty spoon.
Only a millennial would know which nepobabies were frothing at the mouth to punish Trump's America memetically.

Yes, very much so. Thanks for asking.
My safe space is the Frederator's abandoned studio, could you take me there?

Animation is a high labor workforce job. You freeloading no skilled homosexuals can b***h all you want but money is money. If there is no living wage in the field of the animation industry than their is no good job opportunities that isn't with WB or Disney. Even THEY hate their animation departments.
