Not very quiet. I feel cheated.
Ruined the ending with the usual slop. In the actual book the main character dies unceremoniously. Basically it’s “anti war” for zoomers, and is priming them to die for israelites in Iran, Russia, and Taiwan.
>the book is about how there is no heroism on the front and the promise of "eternal glory" is how they get into the meat grinder where you will die like moron not even knowing how or why
>movie makes Paul pull a Rambo as he selflessly saves the new conscript and dies tragically knowing that he dies minutes after armistice takes effect aka becoming a tragic hero
I've seen some butchered adaptations but holy shit.
Yeah it’s bad. Like I said before I genuinely think it’s propaganda meant to prime us for war. Which is especially gross given the original film’s message.
I don't think it glorifies war but sure fricking implies that there is right and wrong side of it. Which is just bizarre when you consider the first sentence of the book.
>This book is to be neither an accusation nor a confession, and least of all an adventure, for death is not an adventure to those who stand face to face with it.
But yeah sure, lets end it with blood-thirsty fictional Prussian homosexual general who enacts fictional meat wave in the last hours. I know Germany is in some proverbial chastity for all the bullshit from 20th century but this is just moronic level of self imposed humiliation.
>propaganda meant to prime us
The Russian election interference narrative was created to convey to the public that Russia was a hostile nation, with the expectation of a future conflict over Ukraine.
Russia has been a hostile nation for decades fricking morono
look, here's one of the programmed idiots right now
Not my fault you're an electon zoomer that knows jack shit
Crimea and the War on Donbass was always frontline news and Russia has always been painted as the bad guy since the fall of the USSR (Chechnya, etc)
>actual moron calling others moron
Classic
>average vodka drinker discourse
The Oscar for soundtrack was one of the biggest travesties in recent years.
I thought it was good. Appropriately heavy, visceral, and hellish while sharing a resemblance with the typical orchestral scores we expect in war epics in a fresh way
every single change they made to the original story and older scripts was a change for the worse
One of the dullest, most generic depictions of war I've ever seen, but I wouldn't expect much better in the 2020s. Could've been worse.
it feels like it was storyboarded by a middle schooler whose first FPS was Battlefield 1
I liked it. It was good. When that one guy died from getting shot in the liver it was pretty sad
Here's the real question
And you can only pick 1 Cinemaphile so choose wisely.
All Quiet On The Western Front
or
1917
1917
AQOTWF (Johnboy Walton version)
Not 1917, I can’t stand “one shot” movies. That shit takes me out of the movie
Why do we have no other choices?
All Quiet. I really liked 1917 though.
You guys should check out Beneath Hill 60 and if you enjoy it, The War Below
the subterranean twist on trench warfare is riveting
All quiet, if only because at least it had no forced diversity.
generic war is bad, but had good sceneries
I thought it was excellent. Very impressive depiction of WW1. Stunning sets and effects. One of Netflix's best films.
I may not read the book or watch the 1930 version again but I expect I will rewatch the 2022
Made by people who completely misunderstood the source material
Original was better, by a lot.
I like 1979 the most. Anyone else?
me too. The 1930 film was too melodramatic in the way that old films often are, and the netflix film is a travesty. The 1979 film is believable, well-acted, and still looks great.
Nah, 1930 >2022> 1979
i like all of them just fine. But 1930 is the best imo
How do you like 2022 more than 1979? It's not like the Netflix version was complete trash but still. Would like to hear some actual opinions.
I saw the 1930 and 1979 film like a week apart. The 1930 version was amazing. I didn't get the same feeling with the 79 film because i had the 1930 film still in my mind. I watched the 2022 version much later so i wasn't constantly comparing. Maybe i should rewatch the older films now I've seen the netflix version.
>Another movie where war is le bad
Why not make a movie where war is le good? Seems like that would change it up a bit.
