I think a reason they’re so prevalent in comics is because it makes them easier to remember for writers. Supposedly the reason Bruce Banner’s first name is Robert is because Stan forgot what the first B was and called him Bob Banner in one issue by accident.
Not Cinemaphile, but the movie character Donnie Darko’s name was based on these. It’s referenced in the movie >Donnie Darko? What kind of name is that? It sounds like a superhero >Who says I’m not?
I'm sure there's some Silver Age Superboy story where Lex turns Clark into a girl so he can being a her domineering boyfriend and make her do crimes for his love (seeing as that's the plot of a 1/3rd of Supergirl stories from that time period), but Lightning Lad? He's from the future; I'm just the boys of the LoSH have a Tuesday Night Just-Friends Jerk Session every week. Builds character and strengthens male bonds.
I love how at the end Clark and Perry said they knew all along, which just makes the situation even more awkward, since it means they knowingly flurted and sexyally harrased their male coworker.
>Lightning Lad
That's not even his name
It's just a way to easily remember character names.
>Fantastic Four
>Reed Richards
>Sue Storm
>Doctor Doom
>Silver Surfer
>Gary Galactus
>Arthur Annhilus
You joke, but his former self was named Galan.
Palmer?

Not "supposedly"
Says a lot about the industry when the writer can't be bothered to remember the main character's name.
To be fair, Stan was working on a lot of series at the time.
To be fair, he was on booze and drugs as well.

Are they implying that he fricked Lex and Lightning Lad? I wouldn't put it past him.

Lin-shan Lee
but what about the good Jimmy Olsen?

would
Ligma Llabs?
Who's Steve Jobs?
>choke
I've never understood what "choke" is suppose to sound like in these old comics.
Just kind of a general emotional stall, I think. Similar to "tch", "gasp", etc.
I mean, I know what it's used for; I've just never seen someone 'choke' as an emotional interjection before.
