Alright you frickers, let's resolve this once and for all: when does the Simpsons stop being good? Some people say the Armin Tamzarian episode, others around when Maude died or the one with the jockeys, and there were also those autists who said the Bonestorm episode for some reason. Perhaps it was when Chuck's became Sneed's. I'm rewatching season 9 right now and it holds up with the golden age as far as I'm concerned, so tell me if I'm objectively wrong.

I still find more good than bad in season 10-12, but that's definitely the period where things changed for the worse

Grimes is the perfect ending. It satirises what the show has become, how its just zany and unrelatable, and how Homer is utterly unlikeable. It shows us how the average hard working American would perceive Homer, who lives like a king despite being a rude, lazy, arrogant, stupid, fat butthole
In the end Grimey dies, Homer falls asleep at his funeral and everyone laughs. They're saying: it's just going to go on like this forever.

"Stops being good" is a misnomer. Simpsons continues to be "good" in the sense that it's enjoyable to watch well into the era of what is typically called "Zombie Simpsons". I think The Simpsons Movie is the last piece of enjoyable Simpsons media I watched, and I think that was from like 2007? There were still decent episodes up to that time.
However, there was an obviously decrease in the average quality of episodes once you got to the period around Phil Hartman's death. The decline was gradual, not precipitous, but it was undeniable.
TRUE Zombie Simpsons, where the show became completely unwatchable trash, was when the animation changed from actual hand-drawn (or at least digitally drawn) cels to flash-animated asiaticshit circa 2012-2014 or thereabouts, I don't remember when. There absolutely have been NO watchable, let alone good, Simpsons episodes since then.

Hasn't simpsons always been asiaticshit technically? It was animated by koreans from the getgo wasn't it?

The Tony Hawk one in s14 is the point of no return
10 and 11 are a noticeable dip in quality, 12 and 13 really start to run out of steam, but by 14 it just becomes blatant and insulting

My personal take is that season 8 marks a noticable shift in quality, which coincidentally coincides with the series getting new lead writers while a lot of older talent moved on to other shows.

Season 8 still has some standout episodes with a lot of classic bits, but crucially there are less of them, a lot of episodes start getting more heavily reliant on either odd drama, gratuitous celebrity cameos or cheap gags (Homer gets a new job, The Simpsons go to X, Homer gets hurt somehow) and you eventually notice you are going longer and longer in episodes without actually laughing whereas the older episodes would barrage you with jokes.

While overall quality of Season 8 remains great (Especially compared to contemporary series and the fact Simpsons was on its eight season) the cracks start to show during Season 8, and it wouldn't be long until the show was in complete freefall.

There is decay pretty early. The episode Bart The Fink (Season 7) opens with a completely plot unrelated gag of them needing to stay in a haunted house to collect a will. this is the episode of Krusty faking his death over tax problems. its a terrible joke with awful pacing and no plot relevance. I was surprised to see Swartzwelder is credited as the writer

Season 7 also has the episode where Bart shoplifts and has a moral dilemma over the whole thing which always seemed like it was in stark contrast to his character. It feels like a cheap shot for sentimentality so they can set up the drama between him and Marge when the show used to openly mock this sort of moral-of-the-week stories.

Proper ending season is 8. The show starts becoming too self aware and it ends with Bart and Lisa going to military school and coming back reformed and gaining a newfound confidence respectively.
