It's one of those "cute but secretly dark" shows, except the cuteness feels like it isn't just tacked-on. And it's way funnier than I was expecting it to be, because a lot of the humor is rooted in how bleak it is.
Been sleeping on this production company Digital. The pilot is worth 25 minutes of your time and if you like it their murder drones series also is bretty good. These guys are very very very good at 3D animation and more precisely facial expressions. It's almost uncanny how much they talk through their faces. not like RWBY where they are lifeless rigs with almost nothing besides the verbal component and overly exaggerated anime faces.
I just watched it this very hour, knowing nothing about Glitch or this project aforehand.
I found it funny enough, but more importantly it was just plain very charming. The characters were all colorful and great. Full marks from me, 10/10, I am given a day of delight to be a part of this.
I'll probably collect Pomni pictures all month and then forget it exists until the next episode.
This is a cute Pomni. There's a strange balance to keep between anatomically detailed or simplified like the show is and this one leans more into the anatomically detailed and does it well.

This is how I feel about it as well. Had some laughs but it wasn't a gut buster. But something about it just enthralls me.
There's a perfect amount of audio visual stimulation from this show, it's vibrant and detailed but without being overbearing and doing that Hollywood blockbuster thing where all the cgi just numbs you. VERY well animated, and the sound design is the best I've ever heard from this sort of indie production. Characters have just the right mix of clearly defined personalities and hinted depth that makes for a fun cartoon character.
I only discovered Glitch the day the pilot, and I have to say I was really surprised because I wasn't expecting such high quality from this random channel I know nothing about and now I'm just suddenly invested in what they are making. I really liked the Digital Circus pilot, it was entertaining and just enjoyable to watch. I really hope to see more of it in the future.
I've started watching Murder Drones too, I'm only up to episode 3 right now but I'm really liking the story focus of this one. The animation is also just as stellar as Digital Circus, though I'm assuming it's much of the same team creating both? I don't know if both shows are going to run at the same time or anything, but I throroughly enjoy both of them for different reasons. Should finish the current Episodes of Murder Drones by tonight.
I'm not sure what a full season would entail, but I feel like so far the idea does a good job of touching upon existential horror without being gratuitous about it. The simple detail of Caine apparently doing his best to help them, but not being able to truly free them goes a long way in making the cast dynamic more charming and sympathetic rather than something like Black Mirror, which would just exploit the shock value torture porn for all it's worth.

Yeah, but Pomni really blew it by ditching her twice in a row. Not enough for Ragatha to avoid Pomni, but bad enough that she's not talking to her. Seeing how things play out between them is one of the things I'm looking forward to.
First when she ran. Second when she took the exit instead of finding Caine. She suffered a lot longer because she tried to escape instead of actively look for Caine.
She only found Caine by making him come to her by stumbling into the void. How the frick would she have found him otherwise?

Again intent begets outcome. She had no fricking way in hell of knowing taking that exit would lead to finding Caine. Yeah she didn't know where to go and was getting wienerblocked by the random doors but again she was given a choice.

The first time, if she were to grab the glitching person, she might catch the glitch full-on, and there's a good chance neither of them would escape. Instead she chose the sensible thing, which was to run.
This was also her first day. She had no idea where to look for Caine. If she escapes, she guarantees a ticket out, and maybe even gets an opportunity to save the others from the outside. It might not be the selfless thing to do, but it is the smart thing to do.

Ah, yeah, that's a little embarrassing. It's one thing to have trouble finding Caine, it's much worse to completely forget the reason you were looking for him in the first place.
Yes, and now Pomni must live not only with the reality of the circus, but the guilt and shame of neglecting the safety of the one person who tried to be her friend. But what makes it great is that you understand her need to convince herself that the circus and everyone in it are just part of a fever dream, and that even though she tried to do the right thing, she saw no reason to help someone that might not really exist. Still, the damage is done, she feels awful, she SHOULD feel awful, and that's what helps make it all the more compelling.
I'd argue that there's nothing Pomni could have done in the first scenario. She did try to help, but couldn't physically touch Ragatha or the thing attacking her. Hell, running and inadvertently drawing the monster away is probably what saved Ragatha's life.
Going for the exit door was more blatantly selfish, but damn it's hard to blame her. Being told by everyone that she's just insane for even seeing an exit (that for all she knows will disappear and never appear again). And ironically, running away again was the only thing she did that actually led to her finding Caine after trying and failing to find him before.
Pomni still clearly felt guilty about it all in the end though. Jax ditched them too, but no one expects anything from him, and Ragatha probably hoped that Pomni was different. So it'd be nice to see them make amends after a terrible first day.
Oh yeah she absolutely did exactly what I would have done in both scenarios. I am just pointing out she did abandon her a 2nd time but I do not blame her. She even did try pretty hard to help both times. First she had no choice but to run really with the glitch being transferred by contact she could not even interact with ragatha so running was logical and she came right back. Also she got punched twice and went through a lot of doors looking for Caine before the exit tempted her. She's a good egg just thrust into a really shitty, terrifying, and insane situation.
I hope we get to see this smile protected. Also I am just dipping my toes into Digital's content. Is Murder Drones and Digital Circus connected? Just finished episode 5 of MD and they directly reference some kind of 'void'. Also the computers in episode 6 are exact replicas of the one we see in Pomni's infinite doorway sequence and at the very very end finish shot.
This also prove that Glitch got it's own fandom and they aren't dependent on Murder Drones after all.
Which is fantastic news, they are finally big enough to promote indie artists like they always wanted and move to new projects rather than milk the same franchise for all eternity.

The owner behind the booru network has closed registration for new boorus to be made. His reasons were that there was too much content that violated the terms of use, and the code is very outdated. He does not really care about it anymore. All that remain are the boorus still up. There is booru plus as but the navigation and UI is fricking horrible.

Holy shit that would be extra horrifying, their consciousnesses might not even be fresh, they could have put the helmets on years ago but just be sitting in a purgatory waiting for one of the current cast members to abstract at which point the system lets them in finally.
A few people have suggested that there could be a connection, but I don't think so. Everyone there had a first day, if every one of them happened the same time that someone else abstracted I'd think they'd have noticed the pattern.

Actually heard an interesting theory. Absolutely frick all to back it up but briefly during Pomni's exit run there is a C&A branding on a wall. Someone suggested this was reference to Cain and Abel. That Abel somehow handled the back end of the program including how to allow players to exit. Somehow Caine ended up killing Abel and is trying to run the entire program himself yet he is limited since he is there to be a fun showman not handle the actual framework.

These types of creatives dedicate their entire life to their art. They are focused solely on creating the most true to vision pieces possible, and will learn new skills through the sheer force of will to see their vision completed. That usually comes at the cost of that process being pretty much your only life.

General consensus is that Murder Drones has a very cringe pilot, but shifts gears for the rest of the show to focus more on everything that made the pilot interesting.
Meta Runner is an obvious first effort with rougher animation, but as far as first efforts go, it's a solid one and has a decent conclusion.
Sunset Paradise is a cute show, but its plot is strongly linked with Glitch's Super Mario GMOD meme comedy show (the main character is a Splatoon OC that they turned human, and she has Pomni's VA), so it's trickier to recommend.

I jumped into sunset paradise first just because of the more video game-y look to it and aside from a couple of moments at the very beginning and very end I'd say it could be relatively enjoying without context.
Murder Drones is pretty damn good, and I'd say one of the best actively running indie shows out right now. My only advice is to give the Pilot a fair chance, it's the weakest part of the show but it does have its genuinely well-done moments that you'll probably enjoy. Past that, the show just gets better and better and I'd highly recommend it if you're a fan of story-dense shows with a mystery plot, lots of clues for you to catch, and eldritch horror stories.
The animation, music and visuals are all absolutely top-tier too.
I really didn't like Meta Runner, it was too janky and too boring for me and I didn't end up finishing it. I'm sure there's a crowd for it, but you can very clearly see how its Glitch's first attempt at a full run of a serialised show. Give it a try if you want, I can't comment much on it though.

Yeah they try to avoid it but 20 random teens drones die? Meh whatever. Makes it feel like there is a lack of gravity to the situation and we're going through the paces to get to the next mysterious clue that doesn't ever seem to get a decent answer or resolution.
They're slave robots that were used for dangerous labour and mining operations anon. It's just a fact of their nature that they don't have a super strong reaction to other random drones dying, but still have the capability to be scared and posess sslf-preservation. They can obviously still care for loved-ones and drones close to them, but they are just used to constant drone death. It's just how it is, I'm not sure how that's tough to understand. Plus, how is THAT your major concern in a story where the entire universe is at risk of being destroyed by an eldritch entity?
I'm saying from a viewers point of view it makes the world a bit wishy washy on how important someone's threat of death is. Most of the cast can survive having their heads blown or sliced off, the regular drones don't seem to have a strong reaction to death at all. It just lowers that stakes is all I'm saying. Like in the beginning the 3 doors? Ok good idea I like it sense of self preservation and all that. Then tons of people die. No one seems to give a shit. Then the roof of the place just gets ass blasted blown through creating a hole directly to the settlement. The doors wouldn't even matter now. All the murder drones had to do was come in through the scantly armored roof and bypass the doors entire and kill everyone.

What? Nothing in MD happens without a reason, anything that shows up or gets shown always leads to something. I don't recall any loose ends, or a clue or detail being shown that wasn't a direct predecesor to some plot point or plot beat. Picrel for an example all the way from the Pilot, a mysterybthat would gradually be resolved in abpayoff by Episode 5.

I think Gangle has to be there the 2nd longest than Jax because she seems into most of the adventures, like Kinger, going with the flow. Kaufmo had to have been there before Jax simply because he's a clown in it for the games, and all the newer characters don't seem to be in on the games like he was.
Jax killed off all the other friends somehow, not on purpose but just simply tested their wills. Ragatha may have gone in after him simply because she wanted to save someone, but that may have been one of the other lost characters. Zooble seems like the most recent before Pomni because she's in the stage of anger.
Kaufmo may have lost his mind when all of the previous characters died and he wanted out finally. If he wasn't one of the oldest ones, he was the one before Pomni but seeing how he was a joke teller who got mad that noone loved his jokes, it feels like he had grown to accept this lifestyle until someone else was begging for an exit to be made and he never thought there could be one until recently, and Caine was making the exist door appear simply to frick with them.
forgot to point out that during the hallway scene, Ragatha and Pomi's head cover doors for long periods of time. It seems like the dummies are the default though, but if there were other characters on those doors, we'll never know, but it ads to the confusing nature of this hallway and how many characters have been trapped here before.
I see what you mean but I'm still certain that my intentional distortion theory is correct. I had to go through the chase scene to see if there were other characters that popped up and the one guy who was seen at door 1, appears midway through the hallway. Plus three other characters that exist in door spaces that we didn't see pass by until they were needed.
Logical answer: continuity errors in the development process. These characters do exist, but so long as you make sure the main characters are in the right order, the extras don't need to be thought of too deeply yet. Some background designers were more aware of this than others, depending on their shot, and it's over all consistent.
However, I still think the shot of Black Chess piece and Kinger appearing one after the other is deliberately set up to make you think that the world is playing tricks on you. When you go to rewatch it, you 2nd guess who's door is supposed to be in the right order. It's only that one shot in particular that does that and I feel it was intentional.

To Glitch, I think it's to gauge viewer interest. They're strictly an indie studio, so a good chunk of their funds come from grants given by Screen Australia (a part of the Australian government). I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I reckon if it has the views, then they can probably convince SA to give them more grants. And this definitely has the views.

Yeah, given the reception it's pretty much guaranteed they're gonna pursue this after MD. Given they have all the essential assets already, and given how quickly they're able to put out MD episodes, I'm hoping it wont be TOO long before we have more. They're going to wrap up MD first I bet, then hopefully the first full season of TADC gets underway.
Kind of makes sense they'd put out a big pilot a bit before their current show finishes to gauge interest for what to do after. Glad it worked out.

I don't think MD is going to finish with 1 season. My guess is they're going to do a full season of ADC after the MD season finale, then MD season 2 thebyear following that.

My reasoning is that it is probably very very hard to die if it is at all possible. I don't know if Ragatha would have glitched out of existence or just forcibly abstracted herself once she was corrupted enough. If that is the case every single X we saw on a door was another likely abstract. No one can die of starvation or old age so every single human to ever enter the circus that isn't part of the current cast is likely an abstract and they are adding up.

Just a little fan theory crafting of my own here but I think she came *this* close to abstracting in the exit maze. Think about it. Kaufmo was abscessed with the exit and obvious was seeing it like Pomni. No doubt he entered it himself and ran through the same maze over and over trying to find an out until he saw the console he used originally to enter the circus. Then he went back and started literally writing on the walls about how the exit is fake and it only would lead to the void there is no escape. Until he wounded himself up into abstracting.
Pomni followed this same route but was able to hold on just a hair longer due to just getting there and still having desperate hope there was something at the end of the maze. Had she discovered the exit and obsessed about it like Kafumo after being trapped or weeks/months/years it would have been enough to send her down the clown path of insanity. For her first day she really did get put through the wringer ass backwards.
What if accidentally launching herself into the void didn't give her enough time to dwell on it? Meanwhile Kaufmo turns around, goes back to his room, and wallows in his madness.
They kept talking about how angry he got when he realized they didn't like his jokes, and that Ragatha was fake laughing to spare his feelings.
Sadly enough it might have been the straw that broke the camel's back for him if the idea of being able to entertain his friends and tell jokes was his sole coping mechanism. Well, that and chasing a fake exit.

As for dealing with having too many ideas and not enough time, maybe list out a few you like and roll a dice? Been sleeping on this production company Digital. The pilot is worth 25 minutes of your time and if you like it their murder drones series also is bretty good. These guys are very very very good at 3D animation and more precisely facial expressions. It's almost uncanny how much they talk through their faces. not like RWBY where they are lifeless rigs with almost nothing besides the verbal component and overly exaggerated anime faces.
I just watched it this very hour, knowing nothing about Glitch or this project aforehand.
I found it funny enough, but more importantly it was just plain very charming. The characters were all colorful and great. Full marks from me, 10/10, I am given a day of delight to be a part of this.
I'll probably collect Pomni pictures all month and then forget it exists until the next episode.
This is a cute Pomni. There's a strange balance to keep between anatomically detailed or simplified like the show is and this one leans more into the anatomically detailed and does it well.

This is how I feel about it as well. Had some laughs but it wasn't a gut buster. But something about it just enthralls me.
There's a perfect amount of audio visual stimulation from this show, it's vibrant and detailed but without being overbearing and doing that Hollywood blockbuster thing where all the cgi just numbs you. VERY well animated, and the sound design is the best I've ever heard from this sort of indie production. Characters have just the right mix of clearly defined personalities and hinted depth that makes for a fun cartoon character.
I only discovered Glitch the day the pilot, and I have to say I was really surprised because I wasn't expecting such high quality from this random channel I know nothing about and now I'm just suddenly invested in what they are making. I really liked the Digital Circus pilot, it was entertaining and just enjoyable to watch. I really hope to see more of it in the future.
I've started watching Murder Drones too, I'm only up to episode 3 right now but I'm really liking the story focus of this one. The animation is also just as stellar as Digital Circus, though I'm assuming it's much of the same team creating both? I don't know if both shows are going to run at the same time or anything, but I throroughly enjoy both of them for different reasons. Should finish the current Episodes of Murder Drones by tonight.

I'm not sure what a full season would entail, but I feel like so far the idea does a good job of touching upon existential horror without being gratuitous about it. The simple detail of Caine apparently doing his best to help them, but not being able to truly free them goes a long way in making the cast dynamic more charming and sympathetic rather than something like Black Mirror, which would just exploit the shock value torture porn for all it's worth.

First when she ran. Second when she took the exit instead of finding Caine. She suffered a lot longer because she tried to escape instead of actively look for Caine.
She only found Caine by making him come to her by stumbling into the void. How the frick would she have found him otherwise?
Completely fricking by chance that happened. She had no way of knowing the exit would lead to the void or that it would summon Caine. Sure he was off with bubble somewhere she probably could not access but she had a choice. Search for Caine or use the exist and leave raggy to her fate. She took the selfish route.

So? Ragatha had no idea she did that. Pomni just happened to find the fastest way to summon Caine by being selfish and trying to leave.
Again intent begets outcome. She had no fricking way in hell of knowing taking that exit would lead to finding Caine. Yeah she didn't know where to go and was getting wienerblocked by the random doors but again she was given a choice.
Keep looking or ditch raggy and take the exit. She abandoned her a second time.

The first time, if she were to grab the glitching person, she might catch the glitch full-on, and there's a good chance neither of them would escape. Instead she chose the sensible thing, which was to run.
This was also her first day. She had no idea where to look for Caine. If she escapes, she guarantees a ticket out, and maybe even gets an opportunity to save the others from the outside. It might not be the selfless thing to do, but it is the smart thing to do.

Ah, yeah, that's a little embarrassing. It's one thing to have trouble finding Caine, it's much worse to completely forget the reason you were looking for him in the first place.

Yes, and now Pomni must live not only with the reality of the circus, but the guilt and shame of neglecting the safety of the one person who tried to be her friend. But what makes it great is that you understand her need to convince herself that the circus and everyone in it are just part of a fever dream, and that even though she tried to do the right thing, she saw no reason to help someone that might not really exist. Still, the damage is done, she feels awful, she SHOULD feel awful, and that's what helps make it all the more compelling.
I'd argue that there's nothing Pomni could have done in the first scenario. She did try to help, but couldn't physically touch Ragatha or the thing attacking her. Hell, running and inadvertently drawing the monster away is probably what saved Ragatha's life.
Going for the exit door was more blatantly selfish, but damn it's hard to blame her. Being told by everyone that she's just insane for even seeing an exit (that for all she knows will disappear and never appear again). And ironically, running away again was the only thing she did that actually led to her finding Caine after trying and failing to find him before.
Pomni still clearly felt guilty about it all in the end though. Jax ditched them too, but no one expects anything from him, and Ragatha probably hoped that Pomni was different. So it'd be nice to see them make amends after a terrible first day.
Oh yeah she absolutely did exactly what I would have done in both scenarios. I am just pointing out she did abandon her a 2nd time but I do not blame her. Just finished episode 5 of MD and they directly reference some kind of 'void'. Also the computers in episode 6 are exact replicas of the one we see in Pomni's infinite doorway sequence and at the very very end finish shot.

How are the studio's other shows? Murder Drones and Meta Runner?
General consensus is that Murder Drones has a very cringe pilot, but shifts gears for the rest of the show to focus more on everything that made the pilot interesting.
Meta Runner is an obvious first effort with rougher animation, but as far as first efforts go, it's a solid one and has a decent conclusion.
Sunset Paradise is a cute show, but its plot is strongly linked with Glitch's Super Mario GMOD meme comedy show (the main character is a Splatoon OC that they turned human, and she has Pomni's VA), so it's trickier to recommend.

I jumped into sunset paradise first just because of the more video game-y look to it and aside from a couple of moments at the very beginning and very end I'd say it could be relatively enjoying without context.
Murder Drones is pretty damn good, and I'd say one of the best actively running indie shows out right now. My only advice is to give the Pilot a fair chance, it's the weakest part of the show but it does have its genuinely well-done moments that you'll probably enjoy. Past that, the show just gets better and better and I'd highly recommend it if you're a fan of story-dense shows with a mystery plot, lots of clues for you to catch, and eldritch horror stories.
The animation, music and visuals are all absolutely top-tier too.
I really didn't like Meta Runner, it was too janky and too boring for me and I didn't end up finishing it. I'm sure there's a crowd for it, but you can very clearly see how its Glitch's first attempt at a full run of a serialised show. Give it a try if you want, I can't comment much on it though.
Just finished episode 6 of MD. I love the animation style but really wish the story was a bit more cemented and less floaty. Like no one seems to really care if someone dies. Yeah they try to avoid it but 20 random teens drones die? Meh whatever. Makes it feel like there is a lack of gravity to the situation and we're going through the paces to get to the next mysterious clue that doesn't ever seem to get a decent answer or resolution.
They're slave robots that were used for dangerous labour and mining operations anon. It's just a fact of their nature that they don't have a super strong reaction to other random drones dying, but still have the capability to be scared and posess sslf-preservation. They can obviously still care for loved-ones and drones close to them, but they are just used to constant drone death. It's just how it is, I'm not sure how that's tough to understand. Plus, how is THAT your major concern in a story where the entire universe is at risk of being destroyed by an eldritch entity?
I'm saying from a viewers point of view it makes the world a bit wishy washy on how important someone's threat of death is. Most of the cast can survive having their heads blown or sliced off, the regular drones don't seem to have a strong reaction to death at all. It just lowers that stakes is all I'm saying. Like in the beginning the 3 doors? Ok good idea I like it sense of self preservation and all that. Then tons of people die. No one seems to give a shit. Then the roof of the place just gets ass blasted blown through creating a hole directly to the settlement. The doors wouldn't even matter now. All the murder drones had to do was come in through the scantly armored roof and bypass the doors entire and kill everyone.

What? Nothing in MD happens without a reason, anything that shows up or gets shown always leads to something. the hallway scene shows the other characters that we've lost and there's a moment where Kinger's door changes from a black chess piece (maybe a queen or a bishop) to Kinger's.
So of the living characters, I get the impression that Jax had to have been there long enough to have seen this happen more than once and enjoys making the rest of these guys loose their minds, and he's hopeing for either Gangle or Ragatha.

I think Gangle has to be there the 2nd longest than Jax because she seems into most of the adventures, like Kinger, going with the flow. Kaufmo had to have been there before Jax simply because he's a clown in it for the games, and all the newer characters don't seem to be in on the games like he was.
Jax killed off all the other friends somehow, not on purpose but just simply tested their wills. Ragatha may have gone in after him simply because she wanted to save someone, but that may have been one of the other lost characters. Zooble seems like the most recent before Pomni because she's in the stage of anger.
Kaufmo may have lost his mind when all of the previous characters died and he wanted out finally. If he wasn't one of the oldest ones, he was the one before Pomni but seeing how he was a joke teller who got mad that noone loved his jokes, it feels like he had grown to accept this lifestyle until someone else was begging for an exit to be made and he never thought there could be one until recently, and Caine was making the exist door appear simply to frick with them.
forgot to point out that during the hallway scene, Ragatha and Pomi's head cover doors for long periods of time. It seems like the dummies are the default though, but if there were other characters on those doors, we'll never know, but it ads to the confusing nature of this hallway and how many characters have been trapped here before.

I see what you mean but I'm still certain that my intentional distortion theory is correct. I had to go through the chase scene to see if there were other characters that popped up and the one guy who was seen at door 1, appears midway through the hallway. Plus three other characters that exist in door spaces that we didn't see pass by until they were needed.
Logical answer: continuity errors in the development process. These characters do exist, but so long as you make sure the main characters are in the right order, the extras don't need to be thought of too deeply yet. Some background designers were more aware of this than others, depending on their shot, and it's over all consistent.
However, I still think the shot of Black Chess piece and Kinger appearing one after the other is deliberately set up to make you think that the world is playing tricks on you. When you go to rewatch it, you 2nd guess who's door is supposed to be in the right order. It's only that one shot in particular that does that and I feel it was intentional.

Yeah, given the reception it's pretty much guaranteed they're gonna pursue this after MD. Given they have all the essential assets already, and given how quickly they're able to put out MD episodes, I'm hoping it wont be TOO long before we have more. They're going to wrap up MD first I bet, then hopefully the first full season of TADC gets underway.
Kind of makes sense they'd put out a big pilot a bit before their current show finishes to gauge interest for what to do after. Glad it worked out.

Just a little fan theory crafting of my own here but I think she came *this* close to abstracting in the exit maze. Think about it. Kaufmo was abscessed with the exit and obvious was seeing it like Pomni. No doubt he entered it himself and ran through the same maze over and over trying to find an out until he saw the console he used originally to enter the circus. Then he went back and started literally writing on the walls about how the exit is fake and it only would lead to the void there is no escape. Until he wounded himself up into abstracting.
Pomni followed this same route but was able to hold on just a hair longer due to just getting there and still having desperate hope there was something at the end of the maze. Had she discovered the exit and obsessed about it like Kafumo after being trapped or weeks/months/years it would have been enough to send her down the clown path of insanity. For her first day she really did get put through the wringer ass backwards.
What if accidentally launching herself into the void didn't give her enough time to dwell on it? Meanwhile Kaufmo turns around, goes back to his room, and wallows in his madness.
