Bethesda doesn't get that fallout was never about "omg nuclear war so crazy muh apocolypse!" and that it was actuality about the after affects and how human society operates afterwards, hence the name "Fallout".
Bethesda thinks its about exploring the immediate after affects of nuclear war, which is why nowhere is looted and there are still skeletons laying around in poses they would have been in when they died.
If it was closer to OG fallout DC and Boston would have been resettled as fully fledged settlements, not just a baseball stadium and a broken aircraft carrier, both surrounded by a city that inexplicably hasn't been touched or looted of valuables for 200 years.

Did you play it without the FO2 restored mod or with it? FO2 is significantly better with that mod.

Shitty clothes that are literally made by Wal-Mart due to them winning an auction through a low bid, all your tech off-base is a good decade and a half out of date at BEST (you will never get more racist than when you've used shitty cheap Taiwanese NVG), your guns are a good ten years older than you at the youngest (and I don't mean entering service, I mean fabricated), your boots will have holes in them within three weeks of owning them, your trucks run out of gas all the time, you're pretty sure the radio that's used for "on-base entertainment" is from the Jimmy Carter era, and your only medical supplies are gauze, stitches, a needle, and two bottles of Motrin. You don't even get rubbing alcohol on some of them, you might just luck out that someone managed to sneak some vodka shooters that you're gonna have to steel to disinfect the wound you get from stepping on an exposed fricking nail.
Oh, and another reason soldiers are expensive is the free scholarships. A lot of budget sinks into that because the military offers free college, and college tuitions are getting more expensive, and the budget is covering that too.
Skills are shit, you could remove Outdoorsman, Traps, Throwing (why is it even a fricking thing?), Gambling and merge Doctor and First Aid and you would lose completely nothing.
Frick you if you went Big Guns, the first actual big gun you're gonna get is halfway through the game unless you've got meta knowledge.
Same with Energy Weapons. You picked a wrong skill in a Small Guns world.
Unarmed feels like actual fricking trash when you find out that endgame Unarmed weapons override your cool as frick martial arts attacks. Getting Slayer is not a fair trade.
Quite a large chunk of dialogue writing is horrendous. I remember thinking that people who complained about the humour were exaggerating - and then I replayed the game. It's not Borderlands-tier but it is painful to read sometimes.
Locations are uninspired and forgettable for the most part, tedious to navigate as well.
Enclave is not a very interesting antagonist compared to the Master.
Everything after San Francisco is a tedious slog.
The biggest part of the dialogue is it isn't fluid, and that's because of the choices. Someone says something, then stands there and waits for your choice. It's so mechanicall and broken. They just couldn't bring themselves to toss in a few cut scenes with a more fluid dialogue exchange to keep it from being too mechanical.
Morrowind unironically did it best where you could pick out phrases from the most recent dialogue a character said and it acted as though you were asking them about it, allowing for you to have a flowing conversation that doesn't feel like a dropdown menu.
And correction, I think I did actually play with Restored mod since I found some LMG in the Gecko Caves instead of the Bozar.
My point still stands but at least I got a few less crashes and broken quests.

It had racism against ghouls and later Super Mutants come Fallout 2 and New Vegas. However, the racism made sense, because ghouls were doomed to a form of dementia that would turn them into violent zombies and the Super Mutants were all living, working members of the Master's Army and a vast majority of them (including Marcus) flat out do not regret it or seek to atone for it.

Oblivion removed the grindy min-max leveling mechanics of Morrowind, it's objectively worse, and it looks ugly and not in a charming "for the time" way.
It had really good questlines though, probably some of the best of the series.

I will say though I did like the quests for getting recommendations from each of the chapters of the guild.

I hate how much people dickride skyrim. I first played it when it came out and knew it was a big step down from Morrowind and Oblivion and I was a fricking 11 year old. There are people in their mid 30s who played it in college who are still convinced its the greatest game ever played, embarrassing.
Probably Blizzard because at least Bethesda only recently added pay 2 play, blizzcucks have been paying for that hot garbage for almost 20 years now. Though Bethesda deserves a very special mention for releasing the same game like 7 times.

I once tried modding it with like 300+ mods. I played for 30 minutes and uninstalled. Even with gamechanging mods Skyrim is still Skyrim - shit plot, shit quests, shit locations, shit enemy variety, shit skills, levelling and perks, shit weapon variety, shit spell variety (hurr durr fireballs in 3 different colors like mass effect ending FRICK YOU), shit voice acting (this actually hurts more that you think), shit "cities".
There's no fricking spark left in Bethesda, it's all just shallow tourist simulators, soulless and aimless just like their target audience.
This. I can think of probably three interesting quests for every city in oblivion, along with a bunch of other details such as houses, interesting houses, characters, architecture etc.
When it comes to Skyrim the only interesting city for me is Markarth. I've also noticed people literally forget morthal exists, which makes sense as its basically just the filler villages like riverwood or logging camps with no unique architecture or anything and like one quest.
not counting dlcs, the only memorable quest i remember in skyrim is the one where you investigate a serial killer in windhelm
you can actually screw it up and get the bad ending, plus if you take too long more and more people turn up dead
