An All-Out War Between the Bat and the Cat in 'Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War'

>A battle is brewing in Gotham between the Bat and the Cat, but crime is down in Gotham City…could that be a bad thing? Spinning out of the nightmares that haunt Batman in Knight Terrors: Batman, Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War begins on August 29, 2023. The Dawn of DC crossover event takes place in Batman and Catwoman, as well as in special one-shots and a miniseries.

>A coordinated effort in Gotham City has led to a reduction in violent crime, but at what cost? Villains scatter as their lives begin to crumble under a new regime. And as Batman recovers from his epic battle through the Multiverse and the horrors of Knight Terrors, one name runs through his mind. One name at the heart of this new, safer Gotham: Catwoman.

    >A conflict that’s been brewing for well over a year finally hits the streets, and it will fracture the Bat-Family as war erupts! From bestselling writers Chip Zdarsky and Tini Howard and artists Mike Hawthorne and Adriano Di Benedetto comes the opening shot of the Gotham War in Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War - Battle Lines #1, available at comic shops on August 29! The special kickoff issue features a main cover by Jorge Jimenez, open-to-order variants by Joe Quesada and Kael Ngu, a 1:25 variant by Otto Schmidt, a 1:50 variant by Ngu, and a 1:100 inked version of Quesada’s cover.

    >“From the moment Tini and I started working on these titles, we realized we had a huge opportunity to build toward something that would shake up the power structure of Gotham City,” said Batman writer Chip Zdarsky. “The Gotham War is just that: relationships explode, relationships are formed, and it all leads to massive changes! Being able to take these kinds of big swings together has been extremely exciting.”

She destroys Catwoman, gets dumpster tier sales and gets fellated with praise and events.

This concept sounds absolutely fricking moronic. No one liked Selina becoming a mob boss before and absolutely nobody likes howard's abysmal run, so rehashing a previous arc but worse doesn't make any fricking sense. There is just no possible way to pit these two against each other at this point that is believable but I guess DC is competing with Marvel to see who can better frick over their relationships.

    >The second part of Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War takes place in the pages of Batman #137, available at comic shops on September 5, written by Chip Zdarsky with art and main cover by Jorge Jimenez. Batman descends on Gotham City, full of rage and force, more driven than ever to save his home. But the new landscape has turned friends into foes. Can anyone stop his reign of terror? Should they? The issue will also feature open-to-order variant covers by Joe Quesada, Gabriele Dell’otto and Rose Besch. A 1:25 variant will be available from Salvador Larroca and Quesada’s cover will also be available as a 1:50 variant.

    >Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War continues in Catwoman #57, written by Tini Howard with art by Nico Leon. While Batman finds himself more and more isolated, Selina is never alone. With a volunteer army and two powerful generals by her side, the ballet between her and Bruce enters its next act with a shocking twist. Catwoman #57 is available on September 19 with a main cover by David Nakayama, open-to-order variants by Jamie McKelvie and Joshua “Sway” Swaby, a 1:25 variant by Rian Gonzales, and Sway’s cover available in a 1:50 version.

    >“Comics thrive on team-ups. Whether it’s a team of creators or a heroic partnership, all of my favorite stories are about two strong personalities and the space between them,” said Catwoman writer Tini Howard. “On the page, we’ve got one of comics’ greatest love stories: the world’s greatest detective and the world’s greatest criminal. And they both love Gotham City. But the course of true love never did run smooth.”

    >The Gotham War will also feature the two-issue miniseries Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War: Red Hood from writer Matthew Rosenberg with artist Nikola Čižmešija. Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War: Red Hood #1 will be available at local comic shops on September 26.

    >“I don’t want to spoil anything, but with Selina’s recent breakout from jail and Bruce’s struggles with Zur-En-Arrh, things are going to get intense in Gotham,” added Zdarsky.

    >The creative team of writers Chip Zdarsky and Tini Howard and artists Mike Hawthorne and Adriano Di Benedetto will also cap off the crossover event with Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War – Scorched Earth #1, available on October 31. Why does Jason care about this?

Because the writer says he does, they probably just want to set up a new status quo for him.

God fricking dammit DC, why can't you drop the fricking MK costume and the goddamn crowbars?

And does Rosenberg know another story that "Jason and Bruce fight each other"?

        The crowbars are cool actually.

Rosenberg didn't have Jason start fighting with crowbars lol, I think it was Lobdell, and unlike the MK costume, I actually like it, it's a good non-lethal alternative for Jason for when they want him to actually hit his opponent without outright killing them, swords and guns realistically end fights quickly, so a blunt weapon that he can smack his opponents with multiple times without killing them outright is a good thing.

I don't know why people hate on Rosenberg so much. It's like people forget just how bad Jason Todd has been.

Remember Lobdell? What about Tony Daniel? Bruce Jones? Even Winick wasn't that great. Or Jason Todd being written by committee in Countdown.

Jason Todd is genuinely just a shitty character. He works best as dead robin, an immortalized lesson. Being resurrected, ironically, mortalized his legacy and reduced his individual worth.

Tim would have worked better as red hood from the beginning and now. You have the first son in dick, the dead son in Jason, the lost son in Tim and the real son in Damian.

Now they have the first, the second, the third, the fourth and the fourth makes the second and third superfluous and fans of the second and third hate the fourth and fans of the fourth hate the third and on and on and on.

No I’m not saying that is tim, I’m saying that 30 years ago it could have been spun that way after seeing how JPV cleaned up Gotham and seeing Bruce fail over and over again he eventually darkened on his outlook.

(You) may think it's dumb and reject it with all your autistic rage, but DC has no problem with it.

Nobody is discussing what DC is okay with moronic. I accept your concession.

                >I’m saying that 30 years ago it could have been spun that way after seeing how JPV cleaned up Gotham
Tim was basically attempting to be JPV's Jiminy cricket that entire time. I get you're going for taking his idealism and turning it on it's head..but he then becomes a fundamentally different character. I mean the whole reason he became Robin was to make Batman LESS violent.

DC has long tried to turn Red Hood into a brand in comics, such as Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl and Catwoman. But he still couldn't keep a well-selling comic book for very long (it's not like he had any good writers). So DC uses those events to try and push something. It's valid, the problem is that Rosenberg is shit, the character always falls into the hands of shitty writers.

The major problem is the character Jason Todd himself. It’s punisher for femme boys who unironically think guns should be illegal IRL and emo girls who hate daddy - or whatever the modern equivalent is.

He’s not masculine and militaristic enough to appeal to /k/gays and punishergays and yet his entire appeal is being the edgy batfam member who doesn’t follow old dumb daddy’s old dumb rules.

He either needs to become more repugnant and off putting or completely reformed and drop the monicker.

The name invokes a villain and the color red is meant to invoke blood.

It makes no sense for him to continue with the name if he doesn’t kill people.

Not necessarily, the name can mean whatever the wearer wants it to, and to me the name sounds neutral enough for it to go either way, it's just like Little Red Riding Hood, it was originally a disguise for criminals, there's no deeper meaning that it's supposed to be blood lol, specially when that's such a common color in both heroes and villains.
It's not like he's called "Killer Hood" or "Red Murder", that's one of the names that could fit a regular hero just fine.

                >the name can mean whatever the wearer wants it to
                No, it quite literally cannot.

If I went around wearing a small mustache and bowl cut people would rightfully say o was trying to look like hitler and imagine I was an anti-Semite. If I wore all red and walked into a neighborhood that was known for people wearing all blue I would not expect to hear a discussion about it.

Red hood was a street name. It has a legacy. One Jason took on for a specific reason.

If some kid started running around Gotham saving lives calling himself the joker it would be moronic.

Nobody likes anything that lady writes.

I've been enjoying Zdarksy's Batman but this is just making me yawn. At least it seems like it's only a month

      >Batman editor
Zdarsky is a fricking herb and his comics are no better than king or Snyder or tynion who were all awful.

Thankfully /ourgirl/ is off in ghost-land learning mystical kung-fu so she doesn't have to suffer this shit.

    Who the frick cares?

Until people like Taylor and Toni Howard and Leah Williams and Tom king and on and on are fired DC won’t get better.

Make Jon Kent a kid again for gods sake and enough of these dogshit events.

As long as the writers allow Batman to punch the cat b***h in the face, I might enjoy it even if it's shit. But they won't likely won't because they're in love with this shitty character for some reason.

This is truly the worst era of DC comics.

Nope, New 52, Post Rebirth with Bendis, and Infinite Frontier with all the 5G leftovers were all worse.

Nah new 52 will always be the worst. Especially because it’s mostly their refusal to fully ditch it after rebirth that has led us here.

At least they tried to do something new.

You know? I shat in him but Taylor 24/7 but I gave credits that in his +30ish issue run he only 2 was a tie in
Bruce already had Tim and Jason, is enough people to have in an event
    >Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War: Red Hood
I felt Jason and Damian would work better in world adventures like O'Neil Batman while Tim could work as Gotham detective stories and Dick in Bludhaven.
But still, Rossemberg and Chip are still buttfricking Jason , it isn't much worse than Lobdell wasn't worse but is sad.

It is 2017: Joker and Riddler are warring in Gotham City
It is 2019: Bane has taken over Gotham City
It is 2020: The Joker has waged war on Gotham City
It is 2022: Failsafe has taken over Gotham City
It is 2023: Batman and Catwoman will wage war in Gotham City

At the beginning of Tynion's run, Batman mentioned that Gotham population usually increases when these mini-Crises end.

          Anonymous

          what's the justification behind that
"oh guys the 50th murder crisis with the joker and super satan happened in gotham and half the population died but it's okay to go back i'm sure the 51st won't happen"

            Anonymous

Resilience and stubbornness, Gothamites are just built different, they don't think "oh there won't be a 51st Crisis", they think "I survived the 50th Crisis, I can survive a 51st one".
Gotham's reputation generally attracts a certain kind of people to the city, and the deaths from all these wars allows a lot of fresh meat to move in, ready for Gotham's next disaster.
