Yep, me too. They will eventually have to tie in the Snoke bullshit and the First Order. Our only hope the veil of the force, which is like the indoctrination theory in Mass Effect. It helps you to cope, but it's not real.

would be better if they got Mendelsohn to do a Krennic cameo instead, maybe a discussion between Krennic and Jung about Scarif or something, that would then be used to justify Jung knowing about the DS and giving that info to the rebels

Luten is discovered to be a double-agent, Saw Gurera informs Kreegyr that the Empire knows his plan.

Syril has a lead on Andor but dies.

Andor finds out Kino survived; is told that they were making parts for something the empire is building, a kind of "super weapon".

Kreegyr's heist is bigger than the Aldani mission and apparently the Emperor is pissed that his sabotage failed. Episode ends with Emperor summoning Luten.

          >Is an old white man

It's called foreshadowing. He's a double agent, only allowing certain missions that advance the Empire's march across the galaxy, while slowly picking off the resistance. He'd be summoned to show the severity of his mistake, and to make the Emperor look badass. They've only spoken about him in the show, they'll do a "Rogue One" moment and have him show up for one scene.

Luke wore white because he was innocent, then he wore gray in the second movie because he wasn't anymore. In RoTJ he wore black but he wasn't evil, he had just completed his arc to knowing and understanding the dark side.

If you wanna go with their colors they're white and black because that's the type of work they do. One does the clean noble work, the other the dirty work that needs to be done, but both for the same cause. She's less effective overall becuse she's limited by her path, he's more effective because there's nothing he won't do for the end result, he literally said he uses the (metaphorical) tools of his enemies to fight them. He's the one that fights fire with and angrier fire.

He's not a double agent. He's bad 'good guy', but not a 'good' 'guy'.

            wew what a moronic take

Luthen Rael is a Hard Man making Hard Choices, not a double agent. He's supremely pragmatic and ruthless in the pursuit of his agenda and does not allow his emotions to cloud the cold calculus of war.

He sacrifices Kreegyr not because Kreegyr is somehow a threat to the Empire (protip: he's not, he's basically a gang leader running around with 30 gangbangers and looting shit) but because Lonni is 100 thousand times more valuable to the cause than Kreegyr could ever be.

Objectively, having a high placed mole lodged inside the heart of the enemies counter-intelligence apparatus is more valuable than any single small time raid on an out of the way outpost could ever be.

Luthen makes the right call in throwing Kreegyr to the wolves, a cold blooded one but the right one anyways.

And that's what makes Andor kino for me, it's basically what TLJ wanted to be but never could be, it does deconstruction of space opera tropes RIGHT - in this case it deconstructs the "daring Rebel spy" trope, the rebel spy is not some dashing rogue with a heart of gold who always does the right thing even when it makes things harder for him in the long run because the "dashing rogue" types get picked up by the ISB instantly and thrown into Dedra's Outer Rim torture dungeon. The real rebel spy is a cold hearted bastard, a ruthless pragmatist willing to sacrifice his own allies like pawns on a chessboard, but only if it lets his other pieces draw closer to checkmating the enemy.

After George Lucas sold STAR WARS to Disney, the space adventure saga lost its identity as this epic larger-than-life space opera rooted in mythology and imagination.

STAR WARS must follow certain rules established by George Lucas. It's the camera, the music, the sets, the costumes, the actors, the style of the dialogues, the aliens & creatures, etc. Everything within STAR WARS is very structured so that when you look at the screen, you immediately know that you are in a galaxy far far away, that this is STAR WARS and no other film.

Andor looks and feels like it's set in a completely different universe, or that it's some kind of weird dystopian sci-fi set on planet Earth, where the characters salvaged whatever old weapons and uniforms they could find. Everything in Andor looks off. The aesthetics and the style of STAR WARS are gone. The imagination is gone. Even when you put away the fact that the elements of STAR WARS are not there and it's just a brand name stamped onto some medieval-looking TV show, it's too boring to watch. There is no story to follow, the conversations are dull and empty.

We are stuck with watching the Empire vs the Rebels narrative forever, there is nothing new and exciting. At Disney, they don't understand STAR WARS. George Lucas created an exciting space fantasy adventure filled with exotic planets and strange exotic creatures and aliens and infused it with so many mythological, spiritual, psychological & political themes and he worked very hard to always make it new. Without him, STAR WARS is gone. No imagination, no creativity, and the lack of understanding of the building blocks of STAR WARS is the main reason why we are getting this kind of content from Disney.

Andor doesn't feel like "Star Wars," but not for the reason many shills of the series would think. When you look at the Lucas Star Wars, it was a pastiche. He used the conventions of various genres of movies to draw us into a world that felt simultaneously familiar (thanks to these borrowed visuals) and completely otherworldly. This was particularly visible in the production designs for the Lucas trilogies.

I don't think Tony Gilroy has a grasp on this concept at all. For an example, let's look at the sets you praise. While I'll agree on a technical level they are competent, but they're also... mundane. There's a complete loss of the otherworldly. While that may serve the story in terms of highlighting the mundane oppression of the Empire, it doesn't serve the "Star Wars" story this should be. They feel far more hard science fiction in nature and would be more appropriate for say "Firefly" than Star Wars. Compare Andor's sets to the Mandalorian. The Mandalorian is a western and everything about it's design oozes western.

As another example, I'd put forward his handling of the second arc about the payroll heist. I wasn't feeling the love for the show, but I sat up when I realized what episodes 4-6 would be, because I LOVE me some heist films. Heist films largely work because of the suspense building structure (clearly defining the plan, the unexpected complications and the character's improvisation to overcome these obstacles to come out on top) juxtaposed with the mystery of the heist leader's personal vendetta tied to the heist. Not only does the show deliver the heist in a flat way, there's also nothing otherworldly in terms of it's complications. It's a fantastical world, let's have a fantastical complication that makes it uniquely Star Wars.

My second complaint about the series is Andor, as a character, has ZERO agency. He spends the entire show being forced into situations rather than the character making a choice and dealing with the consequences. The randomness of his getting arrested in episode 7 was the straw that broke the camel's back for me with this show. He makes a bad decision to return home. The consequence should have been he gets caught there. But no... he escapes scott free and while on vacation is in the wrong place at the wrong time and gets randomly arrested for none of the things he's actually guilty of. THAT'S bad writing.

        Anonymous

Pleb take. If you paid attention you would have noticed that he got arrested for being too cautious. Looked too suspicious, tried avoiding the cops. If he had just sat down on the beach or had the chick with him he would have been fine. He was still innocent but ultimately played into his own capture. Also sometimes that's how real like works, you're ultimately at the mercy of fate and sometimes it has nothing to do with your own personal decisions. How you respond to such things is what makes the difference. Hence the prison break. And the heist was actually pretty good.

        Anonymous

Actually his capture was in a way thanks to his actions. His half assed actions led him to prison. He thought he could just escape the empire by laying low but that was what got him.

The Empire didn't decommission ships either. They put them out on the fringes and kept the newer stuff closer to home. They might have had a refit or two but you don't scrap a perfectly good cruiser.

Well, senpai, we don't see any of the PT ships or tech whatsoever in the OT. Unless you are stupid enough to think "lol it was just all off-screen". They scrapped it.

And for other Moffs and generals can say they have the best boys under their command. All these specialized troops just funnel more into their MIC and for Moffs to measure dicks and flex on each other.

This might be needlessly complex and/or moronic, but I was thinking about Luthen while I was falling asleep kek and something occured to me: What if he's working for the Emperor as a double agent? His purpose being exactly what he's been doing in the show, increasingly larger scale (falseflag) attacks against the empire which then allows Palpy to further tighten their laws and control. It's entirely inline with Sheev's playbook, that's how he became Emperor in the first place.
Now the twist is Luthen is actually a double double agent. Because at the same time, he's using these attacks not as falseflags but (as it's depicted to us on the show) the beginning revolts of a rebellion.

    >I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them
Maybe that line was deeper than we thought. The problem with Luthen is he's such a well constructed character you can basically invent 20 different backstories for him that all work.

        Anonymous

Okay I've read it, now you should read my post because my theory is different. I'm saying he's a double double agent. The reason it would be interesting is it means Palpatine had a central role in creating the Rebellion

He’s said already that he’s an accelerationist who’s helping carry these attacks out in the explicit hope that the empire overreacts and people become too oppressed to stay complacent. Whether you want to believe that is up to you but that’s what I’m going with

That doesn't contradict what I've said though. It shows Palpatine's confidence / arrogance that he thinks this wouldn't happen

            Anonymous

Yeah I admit it's not likely, I just think it's an interesting idea. Congrats on your new home, I usually ask people now if you bought it the old fashion way with a mortgage or did you purchase it outright with crypto

            It's not different at all.

Palpy doesn't need pretense to impose greater restrictions on the rebels.

            >luthen is a double agent hes actually with the empire
            >luthen is a double double agent he's actually using the empire to create the rebellion
            reading comprehension

And if he did he’d just stage a few false flags instead of foment an actual threat. It’s almost like Gilroy’s writing team read about what authoritarian governments actually do and random Cinemaphile posters haven’t

First off that's not what I said, I said Luthen is forging the rebellion behind Sheev's back. His only given mission was to stage attacks. And also have you been watching the show? There's only been one attack we've seen so far

I was leaning toward Force-sensitive relative, yeah. Maybe a niece or something, show that he's got a family but perhaps not direct offspring. The Kyber crystal was hers, and he salvaged it from the aftermath of a battle waged by the Republic.

Not as pulpy or quirky as the original 6 movies, but plenty of references and settings that put it right at home in Imperial Era Star Wars. Spy thriller type. MC isn't the mo charismatic guy but rather a hardened street rat type who's worked his way up a bit and the story starts with him looking for his long lost sister, gets tangled into some bullshit which just keeps escalating all the while the proto Rebellion is getting off the ground and the MC gets caught up in it. Mature tones, deep lore and good acting/writing. Theres also alot of real world sets used

did maybe, that was cope because they wanted to believe the third movie could redeem the problems. And to their credit the movie could have been redeemed. It could have just been temple of doom to an otherwise decent trilogy. But RoS squashed that hope and made it so no one can eve stomach watching Force Awakens because it's just a painful mess of wasted potential and setups that never went anywhere.

It was literally just a reboot of the OT, but worse. And they undid all of the legacy characters' achievements. And the movie never bothered to elaborate on any of that. Somehow, The First Order (an Imperial Remnant) is bigger and stronger than the Empire that preceded it. Somehow, the Rebellion is still a fricking REBELLION, despite literally fricking winning in ROTJ. Somehow, Han is still a smuggler. Somehow, Luke Skywalker has vanished. Man, this is really pointless, and at this point it's just beating the dead horse. Everyone knows that.

Because Palpy was working behind the scenes the whole time. He used his force powers to conjure not only the Final Order, but the entire First Order and Starkiller base as well
How’d he do that? No, frick you, JJ ain’t gonna explain shit, haven’t you heard of mystery boxes?

That is key. It also begs the question of
                >if Palpatine could just conjure armies out of force essence or whatever, why did he even bother with the whole “subvert the republic” thing that took the entire prequel trilogy to play out?

Everyone needs to remember that no matter how much they hate the sequel trilogy, the creators of TLJ and RoS and TFA clearly hated each other more.

                >The trilogy was never decent.
It didn't but at the time we didn't know that as a certainty. TFA was not a terrible start, she was a bland cardboard cutout of a character in that movie, anyone calling her a mary-sue is just being lazy about it. She lacked character but was given a bunch of hooks for someone else to use.

The third movie could have used those hooks. It could have been a far less shitty movie at least. It could have salvaged it to be better than the prequels rather than worse.

chock that up to their gimmick of that generation of force users being super duper uber powerful even compared to Vader. They showed the antagonist do crazier shit because he was that powerful but trained.

Frick off, moron. I won't chock that up to anything. It fundamentally contradicts star wars and George Lucas, who said that you need years of training, and you can't just pick that up randomly. Rey was an obnoxious Mary Sue from the get go.

this is how it was for almost everyone. The problem was that it was set up with a lot of hooks that were interesting and good and easy to like, but because most of those were ruined and you know the rest won't ever get resoled, it's just depressing to even think about the movie now.

            Waiting for what?
            >Pretentious - attempting to impress by affecting greater importance or merit than is actually possessed.
A simple tale about Empire vs Rebels from 1977, with one side being objectively good freedom-fighters, and the other side being ruled by a literal cackling space Satan, who shoots lightning out of his finger tips. His name is (in)SIDIOUS, and his henchman is a black cyborg named (in)VADER and they use DEATH STARS. This is what the story boils down to: a simple tale of good and evil, about a farmer boy rescuing the princess from the castle and destroying the weapon, finding his destiny in the process. Andor makes all of that pretentious - by definition.
            >Pedestrian - lacking inspiration or excitement; dull.
            Self-explanatory.
            >Middling - mediocre, second-rate.
            >Pseuds - a person who wants to be thought of as having a lot of intelligence and knowledge but who is not really intelligent or knowledgeable.
Related to pretentiousness of the show.

No it wasn't. It was slowly growing into almost being a rebellion at this point. The main leaders are elite from the republic who only very recently realized they couldn't win using politics and the republic was gone, and everyone else are just people who were fighting back as the empire started stamping down, natural rebels defending their own not as part of a revolution.

The entirety of Andor disagrees, you have small pockets of freedom fighters like Saw and Kreegyr but they're independent of eachother. The actually full scale united rebellion we see in ANH doesnt exist yet, thats like the entire point of the 1st conversation between Saw and Luthen.

I said nothing about a united rebellion shitposter. 30 men is not only like 50 times smaller than say a random minor faction of the Syrian Civil War, it's smaller than a random minor Mexican street gang. You could literally say there are a thousand separate factions (there aren't because Luthen is only talking about a handful) and you'd still end up with a completely irrelevant force.

My guess is to show that the empire does have some grassroots support and that not everyone is primed for a rebellion. I could be being too generous with my interpretation though. His arc does somewhat pointless for the time being.

I think he's going to be the only one who manages to almost catch Cassian but Cassian shoots him towards the end of the episode

Shouldn't those be built in orbit?

      See

Starships should be built in space. Building them on the ground is fricking moronic.

Of course Star Wars gays, and even worse Andor gays will defend anything.

      MORONS
      THEY ARE SCRAPYARDS NOT SHIPYARDS

The logic remains the same. Space has a lot more fricking room to house these ships as they are more easily taken apart in 0 gravity. Landing these things and taken them apart on the ground is just fricking moronic.

          >have a scrapyard in space
          >sawing through a ship, all the debris flies off into space
          >tiny bits of orbital debris everywhere posing a constant hazard
          >everyone needs specialized equipment
          >installation is more expensive
it makes more sense to dump this shit on planet and let wagies deal with it

            >sawing through a ship, all the debris flies off into space
Ships are assembled with nuts, bolts, and welding and they can be disassembled as such.
            >tiny bits of orbital debris everywhere posing a constant hazard
They would burn up upon re-entry into the planets atmosphere
            >everyone needs specialized equipment
They need special equipment on the ground as well. In this pic we literally see these ships being help up by giant pylons and there are small ships with cables pulling huge chunks off. This is all just a fricking waste of money as keeping it space avoids all this nonsense.
            >installation is more expensive
            See above.
            >it makes more sense to dump this shit on planet and let wagies deal with it
This I agree with, but the owners would want less wagies, not more..

It really doesn't matter. Fixating on it is a waste of time and intellect.
