Andrias shouldn't have lived.

Andrias shouldn't have lived.

It's obvious Matt liked him as a sympathetic villain and didn't want to give him a completely bad ending. But him living just doesn't make sense.

Redeeming a villain who was the highest authority in the world (that everyone knew of) only works if you have a huge setting they can still play a part in. Andrias can't. He has spent his entire life serving the Core. After it's gone, there is nothing left for him to do but wander the world he probably already knows like the back of his hand.

There isn't gonna be a place for him in this world, either. Nobody is gonna accept him or vouch for him. He will go down in history as a tyrant who waged war, killed the other races and mistreated his own.

His greatest ambition was to advance past the confines of Amphibia and conquer other worlds. There is nothing for him to do in this old world where he's lived for a thousand years and where he's not welcome anymore.

This is why I headcanon that Andrias killed himself shortly after the events of the show. Serving the Core was his life. Without it, he doesn't have anything left.

He is clearly healing the world and being punished

Exactly, he didn't get off scott free.

I mean, helping repair the damage to the environment your rule has caused is nice and all but you can only do that for so long and it's probably horribly mind-numbing for a person of his ambition.

He saw where ambition took him
Now he just wants to heal things

Sure would be nice to have a focus on that. I guess Marcy rubbed off of him to the extent where they both got a handwave of an ending that was super brief and left more questions than answers.

I thought it was pretty obvious by his smile at healing things even while chained and in rags

His ambitions where his ancestors and he's over that now. He's also clearly physically failing so it's not like he's living much longer anyway.

If anything it's about embracing humility, it's not about if it's enough, it's about doing what he can for others in the time he has left.

He was bullied and gaslit for 1000 years to believe he was a failure who had to redeem himself. Losing the crown was probably the best thing to ever happen to him.

      You headcanoned half of these.

Wow. What a shit take, OP. Very impressive that you put so little thought into a post this size.

He's letting himself degrade and die, using the time he has left to heal Amphibia and pass on useful knowledge. He essentially is killing himself and doing as much good as possible in the process.

      >He's letting himself degrade and die
      How do we know that?

The fact that he hasn't repaired his cybernetics and is visibly aging.
        Also Matt said so.

Why did Amphibia get a closed ending? I thought Matt said the show would get an open one.

It did get an open one; A new continent was discovered in Amphibia, and Polly is aged up to become a potential protagonist.

      >Alrich speaking

It's not like Marcy has some kind of deep-seeded fantasy about enslaving her friends.

We can still get a show where Sprig and Polly explore that new continent. And maybe the girls get to return.

        >Sprig and Polly.
        wow
It's a shame that the fandom only cared for the girls.

A new series would have something for everyone: grease-stained tomboy Polly, pretty boy Sprig, not-Anne Ivy, rugged paladin Grime, and cougar hunter Yunan.

What bothers me more is that despite him being already the king of the newts his new rule felts like he just slaved everyone for no reason.
His new rule should feel more like a propaganda machine with him using the loyalty of his subjects instead of relying entirely in robots.
