          >badly done
It's literally well established that Aang will enter the avatar state when he's pushed to the edge. The Ozai fight is the best time it's done outside of maybe the air temple.

            Anonymous

It was established that he had both a physical and mental block and may never enter the avatar state again if he didn't complete his training with the monk. And then pure luck fixed that.

              Anonymous

The mental block was him not being willing to let his friends go which he was able to do in the crossroads of destiny episode. He was then traumatized by nearly dying in the Avatar state and fricking everyone over permanently. There's no physical blockage of the Avatar state established. It's meant physical representation of his trauma. He didn't need to literally hit that point to use the Avatar state again, it's just on the nose visual storytelling that even a child would be able to grasp. Assuming the child doesn't spend the majority of his time jamming sticks up his nose and actually has a brain.

Does this shit get good again after they get their hunter licenses? I really enjoyed the first part of the show, but then the 'going to fetch Killua from his parents house' mini-arc killed all the momentum. I dragged myself through watching them spend an entire episode on opening a gate, then for the whole thing to conclude with his parents just letting him go for some reason. Then they started another stupid mini-arc in the tournament, introduced some bizarre magic system and it felt like I was just watching filler fights over and over.

I love the show but anyone saying that the lion turtle wasn’t an asspull is coping and winning golds in Olympic mental gymnastics. If you look up asspull in a dictionary you’ll find a picture of the lion turtle.
The truth is, the writers set up this conflict of morality of whether Aang should kill the Fire Lord or not, then realized in season 3 that the pacifist air cuck philosophy doesn’t work when your enemy doesn’t share your value. They couldn’t have him kill Ozai because Nickelodeon wouldn’t let them kill characters. So in the first half of the finale, they literally had Aang talk to a fricking giant turtle and gain an ability that has not even been foreshadowed previously.
And he doesn’t even beat Ozai on merit. He just enters the Avatar state and goes God mode. Deus ex machina down to a t. The funny thing is, they just wound up doing what that crazy Earth kingdom general wanted to do in the beginning of season 2.

I understand the point they are trying to make, they just failed to make it effectively. You cannot just pull something out of your ass in the eleventh hour of a story. You have to foreshadow it. You have to set it up. You have to angle the story in that direction from the beginning. There are plenty literary devices that help you do this and the writers used none of them.

/co/bros I'm still waiting for my apology. I was just kidding you know I love you, it makes sense the best western cartoon would just be a western anime. I mean the imitations will always pale in comparisons to the original (studio ghibli is one of my favourite studios and I see where they rubbed off on the the avatar creators). I mean you can't fault them for trying.

You must pardon Cinemaphilembler, they've been mindbroken by the state of their industry and the fact that former comic readers are all migrating to manga and anime

Why do you anime haters always invoke it anyway? Just say ATLA is an enlightened cartoon or something

What's always bothered me about this show is that if everyone can bend elements what's stopping one schizo from just destroying the town he is in, in a few minutes.
Also if you can bend water can't you literally just kill someone by just moving there blood into their brain and immediately causing an aneurism. What's stopping 1 guy from killing literally hundreds that way

      >what's stopping one schizo from just destroying the town he is in, in a few minutes
You'd have to be strong enough to do that in the first place. The show is centered around a schizo that wants to destroy an entire nation in an afternoon.
      >can't you literally just kill someone by just moving there blood into their brain and immediately causing an aneurism
Blood bending is addressed, you again have to be strong enough and also get a statboost from the moon. Top 5 epsiode btw.

I feel like there is a lot of revisionism going on with avatar as of late by zoomers. When I was a kid I never viewed Avatar being better or even as good as any of the animes on toonami&adult swim(dbz, yu yu hakusho, rouni kenshin, gundam, outlaw star, etc). And everyone I knew held the same opinion. The word or perception that I remember for the show was that it was light hearted show for little kids rather being a contemporary to what was on toonami because avatar simply didn't go as hard as the stuff on toonami in terms of action & violence and wasn't trying to be a pure boy show like them either.

Like in DBZ you had homies banging out for real, like Gohan got his neck shattered on namek by a dude built like arnold schwarzenegger. All of that battle shounen stuff was porn for 10-13 year old boys and nothing in the west came close to replicating that over the top hyper masculine style of action and fighting. In contrast the hardest character in avatar was a little girl who threw rocks. It just wasn't a show that made boys go, "that's badass". So avatar never really got over with my peer group and I never heard anybody hyping it up like that. Like nobody would ever put avatar in the same breath as DBZ, they didn't even see it as occupying the same space of kid show. Anybody that was born in the early 90s knows that. But for whatever reasons zoomers born in like the mid 2000s are trying to rewrite the narrative, very bizarre.

This is all facts. Avatar was never in the discussion at any lunch room table in America during the early 2000s for any 4-6 grader. That shit was for babies and girls. DBZ had everyone buzzing, not just the nerds.

Ah yes, the series that ended in the 90s was a topic for grade schoolers in the 2000s. Certainly :^)

No power levels? Each season was dedicated to Aang gaining a new power level. And it was definitely e-girl influences. Put away your rose colored glasses and realize even your most favorite childhood memory is still derivative pedo cult grooming garbage. Remember that millennials were raised on this shit and look how they turned out.

Hunter X Hunter is bad. It is uninteresting. The art is bad. The character designs are ugly. A fishing rod is fricking stupid as a weapon. Chimera ant is bad too.

this I don't really get the appeal. From my perspective it has even worse pacing than DBZ and Naruto and literally 0 action, all of the le million iq moments are just dumb

The fire nation didn’t even claim their abandoned temples literally random people were bumming in one, they just left the infrastructure
Aang and whatever gay shit happened in Korra can just claim the temples, there’d be no redistribution of land because no meaningful entities ever bothered to try and claim it.

Because they're non existing, one fricking journey to dragons can make you ten times stronger (to the point that you can wipe the floor with your prodigy sister) but Fire Nation for some reason decided to annihilate all dragons instead of sending dozens of firebenders to them for training.
Also Avatar State is broken beyond belief and I'm glad that Korra nerfed it to the ground
