All of Satoshi Kon's movies SUCK. They're all boring garbage for driveling imbeciles who want to feel smart but still enjoy watching children's cartoons.
This movie deserves reevaluation. It's unironically one of the best movies of all time. Easily top 100 material and Kon's best work.
Probably also the best anime of all time.
I think it gets bonus points for being traditionally/cel animated, like I have to wonder if this movie was remade with animation methods of the past decade how people would feel about it
The cel animation are why it's incredible. Most anime from the 80/90/very early 00s looks like it could be amazing (even though it might be in actuality shit) because of cel animation. Digital is so terrible
If you liked Perfect Blue you might like Devilman Lady.. The Devil Lady is more paranormal and horror oriented but the MC is similar in some ways, though they explore a bit more of her personality since it's a 26 episode show (instead of a singer/actress she's a model)
Mogged and bogged by Miyazaki. Kon has like 2 good movies Millennium actress and perfect blue, 3 if you count patlabor. Miyazaki has like 5+. Heron, Spirited, Princess Mononoke, Porco Rosso, and the Wind Rises
