Shouldn't he as a psychiatrist know this better than anyone?

as already stated, he was in a horrible place in his life. Besides, hasn't he been clean now for years?

That experience should have taught him more about free will and how little control we have over our bodies.

there are times you can forget or you can just believe you are powerless which will manifest itself into reality, but no even if you're having a 'bad time' that's actually the best time to not be pulling the "oh this is out of my control, woe is me" shit

The fact that a psychiatrist got addicted to drugs he prescribes while preaching to people not to get addicted is precisely what losing control entails. You can try to go around it, but the definition is clear.
Just don't take more than you were prescribed and immediately talk to your doctor if you realise you need much more than usual.
Or just continue to escalate the dosage and then cry like the weak willed b***h you are about how you are now addicted
Basically you are saying something that is negative about the proponent of an argument, and saying we should all disregard his argument because of this personal attack upon him.
Most people realize this is not a very good or persuasive argument.
Try again, anon. Why shouldn't we take his arguments about free will seriously?
It might appear as ad hominem but is directly linked to his expert knowledge of psychology and his belief in free will. So to tell a person it's their fault and that they need to clean their room is contradictory to how he acts when he lets himself (despite all his expertise and beliefs) get addicted to benzos. The point of the argument is that there's no free will according to how he thinks it exists.
>Try again, anon. Why shouldn't we take his arguments about free will seriously?
nta, but I think what he meant was that JP says you have free will and then continues to lack free will by getting and being addicted to benzos. As in, he didn't choose to get addicted, and when he was addicted he couldn't get off of them.
>I love my daughter Zelda very much. So much that I will personally deprive her of her father and her future children the chance to spend time with their famous comedian grandfather Robin Willia- ACK!
He wasn't going to be mentally cognitive enough to be around her children. He would have been mostly brain dead by this point if he didn't kill himself.
>be Robin Williams >be a hilarious comic actor and comedian all your life, making billions laugh and smile >create a huge volume of comedic work that people can enjoy forever >kill myself, so that now every time we see his old work, it no longer makes as laugh or smile as much, and every single last one of his jokes is tainted by the grief of knowing that this man's life (which in our eyes was a life of laughter) ended in suicide.
Yea it is
it's not your fault
frick off, it is my fault.
it's not your fault
it is.
we can be here all day.
thats me but it doesnt mean anything in the end
it's not your fault

Nice of you to say, but it is clearly my fricking fault
yeahhh i know
It is.
It really is, not even exaggerating.
Yeah it’s the israelites.
it is your fault. Accept responsibility and stand up straight with your shoulders back. Be the dominant lobster.
what happens with this camp when you can't forgive yourself for what you've done? harakiri?
forgiving yourself is a meme. Rather, make amends and try to remedy things as much as possible, learn and go forward a better person
>forgive yourself
Accept your faults and endeavor to become extremely powerful.
I've started saying the full Unlimited Blade Works chant as a mantra.
This moron believes in free will then goes ahead and gets addicted to benzos. You shouldn't take him seriously.
he was prescribed clonazepam because he had severe anxiety about his wife being diagnosed with kidney cancer
>I-I had anxiety, I HAD to take benzos and get addicted to them
Clean your room
yes, those drugs are insanely addictive to the point that they probably shouldn't be prescribed to anyone
Shouldn't he as a psychiatrist know this better than anyone?
as already stated, he was in a horrible place in his life. Besides, hasn't he been clean now for years?

If anything, that validates everything he's said about the trap of thinking you can be god.
Spiritually and philosophically we *are* god. Technically, we're just a bunch of electrical signals going off in a bunch of brain matter.
Brains don't really exist. They're just atoms arranged in a pattern (the concept of a pattern is a human social construct)
How does that invalidate a belief in free will?
This is what is called an "ad hominem" argument.

Don't frick with me OP, not you
even if it isn't, it's better for me to assume it is since that gives me agency and the feeling that I have the power to turn it around
Easily the worst family guy bit.
pretty sure "the bird is the word" is by far the worst part. Although admittedly I haven't watched Family Guy in 10 years
Math is gay
My gf broke up with me because I legit started crying during this scene
>things that never happened
>me teaching my son about black peoples' problems
>I love my daughter Zelda very much. So much that I will personally deprive her of her father and her future children the chance to spend time with their famous comedian grandfather Robin Willia- ACK!
