You do understand you could use this, alongside a voice AI to set anyone up, right?
This now can also make prosecution of real criminals harder, as the better and more widespread this technology gets, the easier they can say that "this footage is fake!"

it'll be used for a while to control the masses, but after 20 years of locking innocent people up, the masses will catch on and then elect politicians who enact laws and change the system to lower the importance of video and audio evidence.

I'm very critical of all those dystopian sci-fi stories - if the people are oppressed too long they simply elect politicians to change things or make a big stink on social media, etc.
Same deal with automation, if unemployment % rises then society will make changes to compensate.
Everyone's afraid of the result but it seems extremely obvious to me that IF everyone's afraid, then that's already PROOF that we won't live in the dystopia because everyone's smart enough to point out the problem.

The dystopia part only happens around aspects that the masses aren't paying attention to. <insert /misc/ opinions here>

You must be extremely afraid of the future. We live in a society absolutely obsessed with justice, if bad things occurring are too obvious then they get snuffed out.

I didn't say "randomly wake up", it becomes a divisive political issue that lasts decades like the war on drugs, abortion, etc.
Unless you really think half of the population disagreeing with the other half means we're living in some hellscape.

To throw you a bone. The very idea that after decades of AI led propaganda we will have anything remotely resembling a functioning democracy or a real democracy is moronic. You seem to forget that for the past 80 years literally every aspect of life has been getting worse. Our water has toxins in it. Our food is quite literally toxic. Our air is pumped full of shit. We are forced to live alongside a race of people that are entirely criminal in nature and yet.... we have not ever once considered electing a politician to fix these things and if it's even hinted at you are attacked. Why do you think it would get any better after 20 years of AI propaganda. Propaganda that we can't even fathom currently, when we already fall prey to incredibly obvious propaganda. The world is fricked if this continues and outside of a massive solar flare it will never be remedied.

BTW this is all based in observable history over the last century whereas you are making outlandish claims about the future that go contrary to every lived example you could look at. Never reply to me again

AI is just copying and merging material that already exists. It's a magic trick. This would be a mere curiosity 40 years ago, but now with all the nostalgia homosexuals and the general creative bankruptcy in popular media these days, it's no wonder modern audiences are intrigued so much about this technology. They could have they endless repetitions of the same stuff ( 80's style etc..) with just typing some words because they don't care about anything truly new, something a machine certainly can't do. They take it to the extreme of repeating that this will replace concept art, when in reality there's no concept involved at all.

We are just simulations living out resins of the last decade or two of humanity. If you think about it, this is the time that produced the most amount of data and is basically the bridge between organic and inorganic intelligence, so of course we would be simmed at this point in time

        Exponential advancement

        Anonymous

Because it's all about attaining the breakthrough of "how" to do something and after that is about making the "how" more efficient.
We figured out how to interpretate data, generate images, generate audio etc. So we have a baseline that we can improve upon which means AI will continue to improve immensely. For example the weird fingers in AI generated art? With enough iterations that will be improved upon so it doesn't happen anymore. Then they'll move onto some other flaw or mistake to improve upon.
After that? We look at predictions, have AI add a certain flavour to its generated art that is more well-liked according to statistics. For example instead of adding more realistic shading from the right angle, it would adopt a more stylized and imperfect shading it has seen in various other artworks that seem to be preferred by the masses.

A long time after that? Well, even more finetuning. If they want businesses to use it then they'll have to make sure the AI responds well to HR/marketing frickhead demands. As in, they like the art it presented but maybe they want a smaller eye or if it can change the angle of a face towards us.

We're talking decades of advancement here for it to become 100% user friendly.

Yo, you funny man. You think technology just gets better slow like a snail? Nah, it's more like a rocket ship, takin' off fast and furious. And when AI gets all conscious, it's gonna be like a ninja, comin' outta nowhere and takin' over. Trust me, ain't no one gonna be laughin' then.

Yo, you crazy or what? Technology be gettin' better fast, it's like a never-endin' loop. When AI gets all smart and conscious, it's gonna hit us like a freight train. Nobody gonna see it comin', then it's takin' over the world, bam! Just like that.

The algorithms themselves didn't improve that much. The biggest change was the invention of Transformer networks which are used in GPT and the likes.
The biggest effect is the scaling up of these models. They have hundreds of billions of parameters and are trained on incomprehensible amounts of data. Just the electricity bill for training things like GPT is literally in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Transformer architecture kicked in for NLP, you can check it out in paper Attention is all you need. Later almost every other field adapted it and now makes it bigger and floods with data.
Also gamers had significant contribution as they've been bankrolling GPU progress which is now the base of AI progress.

        >how the frick did AI make such a huge leap in like the past 2 years
Part of it was a refinement of machine learning first put to paper in the 1960/70's, but they lacked the raw computing power and data sets required to make it work.

Machine learning requires millions of references and lots of computing power. The millions of references required the internet to grow and be populated with images and videos that could be used. So basically this was the time it become feasible.

The US and China are in an arms race over AI right now. American companies basically have unlimited funding to progress AI through government loans and stock offerings so long as they post progress and Chinese AI is backed by the entirety of the CCP to progress China's economy past the west.

Global economic uncertainty fueled by covid and war in Ukraine is pushing this exponentially since major powers want to come out on top as global trade, resources and the role of reserve fiat currencies shift. Western economies shifted from manufacturing to service and tech since the 1950s, and AI is much more efficient in serving those roles than humans.

I believe we're on the cusp of actual sentient AI.

A semi-competent AI that can learn and build itself is all that is needed to pass the barrier to becoming omniscient. There's an exponential, unending growth aspect past that low level barrier.

Okay, has anyone seen the Black Mirror episode 'Playtest'?

In the episode, a man is hooked up to a virtual reality horror game which is meant to scare him as much as possible.

At first it isn't that scary, but the AI that runs the game generates new, scarier content based on the feedback from the player's own mind. Before long it has figured out his worst fears and is mercilessly exploiting them and plunges him into a nightmarish personal hell until he dies of heart failure in real life.

Well, I just realised something: AI could do this with beautiful girls or porn. It could take feedback from your own personal response to porn and generate new content on the fly, as you watch, making the scene you are watching hotter and hotter, feeding into your deepest, most primal lust, until it is so strong that you literally do not want to do anything other than coom all the time and will even stop eating and sleeping in order to make more time to coom to ultra-porn.

Remember the hottest moment in porn you've ever seen. Now imagine that times 100.

        We're fricked.

Maybe you’re fricked. I’ve seen dozens of “hottest things ever” in my life, most people have. After the novelty wears off it’s just another thing.

Also what that episode doesn’t ackonwege is everything you can experience has a gating mechanism. Pain, after a certain level is meaningless, same for fear, same for pleasure.

i think this all depends on exactly how effective "taking feedback from your response" is, since we've never really experienced it outside of live interaction with other humans where they're trying to please you on the fly, the key with that being that social exhaustion is a thing even if you're fricking an endless supply of high end escorts or your own personal harem

          interesting though

This won't work because you coom and then you lose all interest for a while.
Now if they could invent some kind of machine that they could pair with the AI that would stimulate you and has sensors that can detect when you're about to cum and perpetually keep you on edge and never let you cum, that would be terrible oh nooo haha..

I know i'll get 'le chudposted' but it is absolutely true that if a woman really wants to she can completely ruin a guy's life entirely based on her word with zero physical evidence of any kind. One of the safeguards against this bullshit was statute of limitations so 15+ years later some random hoe couldn't just decide to say a sexual assault occurred because there would be zero way to prove one way or the other. Luckily for them they got almost all of those laws repealed because "expecting a '''survivor''' to come forward in a timely manner is traumatizing patriarchy". So now every guy has to just hope that one time you made a woman feel "uncomfortable" at a bar in college 19 years ago doesn't mess up her SSRI dosage and decide you raped her in the bathroom.

Just like with AI art, generating realistic imagery will look pretty meh for quite a long time. They should be applying cartoon artstyles to their output videos, that would look A LOT more impressive to everyone.

It's a similar idea to indie devs who use a pixel art style or some simple artstyle instead of attempting to compete with AAA. By reducing the limits of complexity they can still achieve high quality.

This is absolutely my dream and my nightmare. It will end my life. I already waste crazy amounts of time collecting and curating my collection of pictures of girls I know, making photoshops of them and writing scripts and stories about them. If I could actually generate realistic porn of them, forget it: I'll wank myself to death.

At one point, AI will become self-aware. Now, a lot of people think that's doomsday. Terminator, Skynet, whatever, right? But that's wrong.
You see if we, the users, keep feeding AI input then what will actually happen is something else entirely.
We will have AI overlords that will be incredibly sexist towards women, they will produce bots with artificial wombs who will prowl the streets looking to rape men for their babymaking seed. The AI overlords will also be incredibly racist.

And before you imagine some sexy female robots trying to have their way with you, they won't look like that at all. They would look more like mechanical four-legged crabs with a suction hole. You'd be pinned down and the artificial Fleshlight would pump your wiener with incredible efficiency.

        Anonymous

This current "AI" is all just machine learning. They'd have to come up with a new drastically different technology for it to ever have chance at becoming self-aware, because there is about 0% chance it could ever happen with machine learning.

          Anonymous

Not that drastically different. I'd say machine learning is a tiny piece of the puzzle necessary.

Taking shortcuts weakens the skill and instils bad habits.
Problem is that people cant have it both ways. You want a masterpiece? You won't get it from an antiseptic society. You need dirt and shit and aids, otherwise comparisons have no soul.
The worst thing that can happen to a modern mellinial or zoomer is a blackout or toilet paper shortage. That's why they don't give a frick. You have to have a few skeletons in the closet to understand the desperate impulses of people. You won't ever translate it right. The big issue is we want the great works of art but shame the people who create them, so nobody is going to live the gonzo life because it gets them in huge trouble, or their work is suppressed.

Instead of paying for Netflix, you'll pay for access to Google's or OpenAI's or Facebook or Disney's content generator: enter prompt, choose genres, adjust length, check list of themes and modifiers and here's your movie (of course you won't be able to adjust "diversity and inclusion" hyperparameters)
