Sure it might be annoying, but I for sure wouldn’t make a comic b***hing about it and saying childish takes like “why don’t you do it if you think you can do better”.

      The what now?

I'm all for criticism but I think there's an unironic death cult on Cinemaphile that literally wants everyone who has ever been an artist to kill themselves.

Not all of them, just a lot of them. It's probably not even a majority.

That's just /ic/ brand crabs in the bucket. That's always been the double edged sword to good criticism online. But you cannot let the crabs get to you, lest you end up pushing away the good criricism as well.

You do not need to be /ic/ but don't be a Dobson either.

There is this definite faction who seem to live in this weird world where e-artists should produce top quality content, without complaining, on a frequent, regular schedule, and receive zero compensation.
      >I spend all my free time enjoying art or literally jerking off to it, but the people who make it possess a skill that holds no meaningful value

I have a theory that zoomers and zoomer adjacents (ie no life millennials and REALLY no life boomers who live online) Have gotten so used to having literally every piece of media ever easily accessible for functionally free and so much new stuff constantly spewed out and competing with eachother and just such a sheer maelstrom of choice when it comes to entertainment that... well, yeah, how else are artists supposed to compete if they're not 100% giving everything and getting nothing back? And I mean this for artists who actively are trying to compete in the market for peoples' attention, let alone peoples' money. chill passion projects are out there, they have their audience, but who honestly and seriously puts those up against goliath companies cranking out everything past and present against them?

        its a jungle out there.

          Anonymous

It's not zoomers, it's oldgays. They "remember when porn and webcomics used to be free" and complain based off of that. Naturally forgetting the part where back then, artists doing it for free would put out one piece of art a month.

And even in the old days there were paysites and whatnot. Also, even for lewd stuff, there were genuine communities, where people would post their own doodles, receive meaningful feedback, and inspire other artists, collaborate, and make e-friends. Of course that still happens, but nowadays a lot of the go-to galleries (twitter, etc) are just thousands of people silently watching and consuming and favoriting or whatever system is in place, only bothering to comment to say "have u died" when the artist hasn't bothered to post anything in months. The tl;dr is that most modern online artsharing provides little motivation for hobby artists beyond a chance for money.

There is more choice of entertainment than ever. Unfortunately it's all just a sea of shit and piss because the barriers for entry have never been lower. All you have to do now is be a narcissist with a computer. People aren't spoiled in regard to quality content.

Maybe the arts is just a hobby and we should all just get real jobs instead? Passion doesn't really sell no more cause the soulless stuff can just out advertise you.

Every guy on Cinemaphile think he's going to create the next Watchmen and lashes out at anyone who would dare create something else. All because he read it at an influential point in his life where his love for comics was growing unjustified and this thing, which was mature like him, was there to justify his stunted behaviour.

Emotional avoidance isn't the answer. If your pussy is destroyed by a few words then find a new hobby that doesn't require being a semi-public figure.

That's why I said ignore unhelpful criticism, and not all criticism. Critiques like "You're just copy and pasting the same character. Isn't that a little lazy?" is something you may want to remember. Criticism like "Not another super hero comic zzzzz" isn't helpful and doesn't have to be listened to.

          >Criticism like "Not another super hero comic zzzzz" isn't helpful
I don't think that's necessarily true. If you keep hearing that well maybe you should listen. You can ignore or try to anyway whatever you want. I'm just saying being a pussy isn't going to help you grow.

            Anonymous

Well, yeah, if you keep getting a specific type of criticism, that's different. But you aren't a pussy if you ignore one off vague critiques that could literally mean anything.

Also, there is a such thing as listening too much to criticism. There's been entire games that have been ruined thanks to this, but I don't want to get into that since its Cinemaphile.
