All of this deadend mystery drivel originates with JJ's infamous "mystery box" hustle, literally the most stereotypically joooish method of making movies. Hype an epic well written product of mind-blowing twists, don't create any mythology or answers, take viewers time and money, repeat until you're a billionaire somehow.

It's not sci fi shows, it's a very specific subgenre of mystery where neither the character or the audience knows what is going on, what the place is, who the opponent are, what they want, the "rules".
In this genre, the character/audience needs to progress in their understanding of the "mystery" e.g. get answers AND they need to constantly expand the mystery, because solving the mystery would effectively end the show.
I kind of like this genre, despite knowing it's just random shit they ad hoc throw together and it will never amount to anything coherent.

that show was so god damn boring, not even a good premise.
From's formula seem to be a major over arching plot that only advances in the first and last episode, a season long plot that gets solved (without giving answers), and a ton of random bullshit that feel like they let every writer come up with some stupid thing to pad the episodes.
Anyway, can't wait for it to get cancelled after a cliff hanger.
