My intrerest is entirely tied to how many of the original characters from the old show are brought back. I enjoyed the first season, it was fun, but it felt lacking with just the warners and Pinkie and the Brain.

give me slappy squirrel at least and I'll be happy. Otherwise, the reboot novelty has worn off.

What novelty is there to begin with? I know a lot of people must have worked hard on it, but nothing new seems to be explored with the new episodes.

        >What novelty is there to begin with?
Every reboot has very very slight novelty in the fact that they are new content for an IP that has long since stopped having new content.

It's not much, but if it's not a complete trainwreck or embarrassment then you can enjoy even a bad reboot just for the fond memories of the original it brings.

If some of the jokes actually land though then that's all the more in its favor. I liked season 1, didn't really stay interested all the way through season 2. I liked the original as a kid, what enjoyment a show like this gives to a kid is different than an adult who anyway. If it were identical to the original in every way I still wouldn't stay interested because of that fact alone.

I can understand that, but everyone can clearly tell the difference between the separate shows. I think the novelty of reboots in the first place have worn off on me more. The third season always has the potential to turn this around, but the original show did discontinue for a reason.

If you're gonna do reboots, it should have nothing to with the original in terms of canonicity. Literally just steal the IP and do your own thing with it. Like how Moonman on /misc/ is basically Mac Tonight, but turned into a literal Nazi. Or how Verhoeven's Starship Troopers is a straight up comedic attack on the original book.

Slappy Squirrel's the character the bitter, cynical, "edgy" Family Guy humor would actually WORK with, is the fricking thing. It doesn't fit the two shorts they did bring back which had Avery and Jones and vaudeville type tones, basically The Marx Brothers and Laurel and Hardy (and Abbot and Costello and etc.).

Violent, angry, cynical, opinionated humor actually fricking fits Slappy which makes it galling that they left her out. It's like she was the character and tone they actually wanted to use not the other ones.

Slappy is too hard-core for the SJW scene. She speaks her mind, she is never shy about hurting feelings, she isn't above describing 'senior citizens' including herself as 'OLD' and making jokes about anyone's old age, again, including hers.
Slappy's approach to bullying was not to talk things over or anything, it was just blowing the damn little jerk bothering Skippy to bits.
Slappy is a nightmare to political correctness. She's the last character they would want to touch unless to dismiss and mock her older generation mindset.

        >In a recent interview with The A.V. Club, Animaniacs showrunner Gabe Swarr and executive producer Wellesley Wild tried answering that question by commenting on their approach for bringing back the wacky Warner trio, the difficulties of planning two years ahead since production began in 2018 and some of the cultural differences that surfaced in that 20 year gap since the show ended.
        >One of the victims of this cultural paradigm shift was nurse Heloise Nerz (yes, she has a name), Yakko and Wakko’s crush and the blonde target for the brothers signature “Hellooo nurse!” catchphrase. As Swarr puts it, “immediately hello nurse was goodbye nurse”, noting that running gags like these simply wouldn’t work in 2020.
        >The interview goes a little further explaining how the characters and jokes were updated in several ways, including Dot being re-imagined as more of a feminine force that now outsmarts her brothers even more than she did in the past. It’s worth noting that while both producers seem very happy with how the Animaniacs look in 2020, the difficult animation process meant that pre-planned episodes featuring events like the 2020 Tokyo Olympics are still featured despite the sporting event being postponed.
        https://gamerant.com/animaniacs-hello-nurse-removed/amp/

That's stupid because you can use Hello Nurse without having the siblings go Hello Nurse on her. My take would be having her age (as a 'normal' human) while the trio was away so she's still the unheard voice of reason-only sane woman around them but now they don't harass her because she's middle aged, and she still doesn't do anything bad to them so they will not heckle her.
Granted, that still leaves her with little to do but she always was a bit character, regardless.

          >Slappy's approach to bullying was not to talk things over or anything, it was just blowing the damn little jerk bothering Skippy to bits.

But that's kind of the thing. The want to do that shit where Family Guy is so offensive and edgy and "mean" and shit like that. Slappy is actually like that unlike the other characters. But one problem with even Family Guy is they keep pulling that shit but can't commit to it entirely because they really want brownie point and backpats for being "woke" while making child raping jokes and being as offensive as possible and that kind of shit. Slappy is an actual butthole who doesn't give a shit and hurts people for fun and isn't politically correct. Family Guy style shit wants to do that bu has to pull back at the last sentence and have someone lecture you about not being progressive and tolerant enough or some bullshit because they're fricking hypocrites, which Slappy wouldn't do. She is unrepentantly cruel on purpose which is not actually what the other characters are, they even point that out on the show, ALL of the other majori character actual do have limits and a moral code that seems warped to us but is still there, except for Slappy. She is a proudly violent psychopath and will attack innocent people for little or no actual reason.

            >ALL of the other majori character actual do have limits and a moral code that seems warped to us but is still there, except for Slappy
Slappy does have a moral constant that never wavers no matter what else, Skippy. She is consistently and permanently genuinely loving of her and would never hurt him, no matter what.
But yeah, otherwise, yes. You can say that she won't go out of her way to attack innocents without a reason but the reason she needs is as little as the Warners just paying her to blow up the nun from The Sound of Music.

Oh yeah you're right about that, sorry, dude. Yes Slappy does love Skippy and protects him, her soft spot and moral part. But like the Warners short you mentioned, outside of that, the other characters do mostly have some kind of general moral guidelines and codes even if they're fricked up and not consistently followed all of the time and all that shit, so there are exceptions, but in general. The Warners most often only seriously frick with people who start really genuinely shit with them, again despite exceptions. Pinky and the Brain are actually trying to make the world a better place despite their goofy plans and they have limits. The Goodfeathers have their whole Pigeon Mafia code and shit. Buttons of course saves Mindy, who is just a very little kid. Chicken Boo is actually this huge philantrophist a lot of gets I don't know anti-chicken prejudice? Rita has a similar soft spot for Runt as Slappy for Skippy but when she does do questionable shit it's just to survive because she has to not "for fun" which is what Slappy does. And so on.

The Sound of Music bit really drove this home, first of all the Warners couldn't break their moral code while Slappy would for money, and next because she ended up doing ti for free only because she thought the Julie Andrews pardoy was annoying after she talked to her for five seconds and she fricking bombed her for fun. In spite of the fact the Sound of Music expy was a really wonderful person, Slappy didn't care.

I watched the first season, and never wanted to watch the second, what a load of shit, Dot is supposed to be a strong independent women that doesn't fall in a stereotype, yet is a stereotype of actual feminism, they could at least have the balls to make fun of it, but that would be not being trending on modern society.

Kinda agree with this. its just homosexual writers co-opting a popular character in the hopes people will hear their moronic message because no one would give them a second thought otherwise.

Best thing to do is not to cancel Dot, but to use her - shes a character, she can be used to promote any message at all. Hyper-sexualise her, draw her being cute, draw her being raped if you're feeling particularly angry and then circulate that shit. Enjoy!

That sounds more like projection of the idea that this show is insulting you by existing. Yeah they fricked over the original writers. No the show was never actually all that great so it's not worth crying over. The majority of the reboot is on par with the original because it wasn't ever actually that good. It was always this smarmy snarky mess that outside of Pinkie and The Brain was never as funny or charming as it seemed to think it was. The jokes and references the Warners made were always low hanging fruit. The side characters were almost all one-off pop culture gags who got way more appearances than their one-not jokes could carry.

That's the reality of this show. It's hilarious to me that the shit that people get upset over, like legitimately upset, is shit that is consistent between the original and reboot. That's rose colored glasses for you.

That's not the case at all, it's presented more as "Dot is smart and right and her brothers are feminist allies but the world is too dumb for them and they laugh from their ivory water tower about how enlightened they are (they're not)"

Yeah they did. Calling me a moron doesn't make your blatant lies true. The joke isn't on Dot for being wrong. Dot is presented as in the right, she's presented as the one "who has wit." The joke is meant to be on the type of people that the new writers and showrunners don't like.

Wait, ok I thought we were all content with her being referred to as "Hello Nurse" colloquially. If her name actually is Heloise, assuming her nickname is Hello, then the joke becomes a double entendre while they're referring to herself by her real name. Sure it's sexist that they fawn over big boobies and whatnot, but the qualm many many people had was she was robbed of being treated like a person. What is the literal difference between Hello and Minerva, a svelte feminine furry girl who's hounded for her sex appeal who's won the hearts of many SJWs for her... independence, strength, ability to hit people who fawn over her?

People who remember that shit as being all edgy are remember their own edgy grimdark fanfiction or some clickbait YouTube bullshit instead NOT the actual fricking cartoon, it wasn't fricking edgy or dark and they weren't evil at all, that reboot short just fricked the tone and characters over completely. Her second episode was more in line with something that fit though, but it was still a bit too much in a few places. I hope the last season is better about it.

    Yakko, Wakko, and Dot
    Pinky and the Brain
    Slappy Squirrel
    Buttons and Mindy

    >somewhat important; strengthens the show considerably with their presence
    Rita and Runt
    Mr. Skullhead

    >of little overall importance but entertaining nonetheless
    Goodfeathers
    Chicken Boo
    Katie Ka-Boom
    Minerva Mink
    The Flame
    Mime Time

Honestly, switch Rita and Runt for Mindy and Buttons, then switch Hip Hippos for Katie Kaboom, and that's how it is.

Move Goodfeathers up to somewhat important.

Where is Good Idea, Bad Idea? That's one of the best segments in the whole show

I would move Katie Ka-Boom down to "eh" with the Hippos. For the first tier, I agree with the first three, but I actually don't know what to put in the fourth spot. I agree that it needs SOMEthing in there, I think it's more like it needs one of these three to round the series out: Buttons and Mindy, Rita and Runt, OR Goodfeathers. I think ideally those three are in rotation as a kind of fourth hub, if that makes any sense.

All the rest periodically as a sort of fifth tier, support kind of thing makes sense, but I don't think The Flame really fits. It and those few other shorts like the wrapping paper and the trailer feel too Disney. They're not bad they just don't fit or gel with the rest of the show.

I agree for the most part, but Buttons and Mindy is actually pretty underrated in its importance, you need a pure slapstick, Loony Tunes type of segment so the dialogue-heavy nature of the other segments doesn't become cumbersome, and by having Buttons and Mindy as a major segment, its traditional approach to toon humor bleeds into the rest of the show.

      >Rita and Runt above literally anything
I'd watch an entire Hip Hippos series before I watch another Rita and Runt short.

      Based anon.
How was that supposed to be funny at all again? It always felt like filler of such low quality even an eyecatch would have worked better.

      4/10 not enough wrinkles

This was a real commercial. Yes I know this because Doug Walker talked about it.

Why would there be wrinkles? That's the young version of her.

Anecdotal, but I have a few women in my family that were and still are big Animaniacs fans. When I asked them what they thought of the reboot they all thought it wasn't very good. I don't think the feminist angle is even appealing to most women, at this point it's just out-of-touch propaganda inserting itself into a formerly decent cartoon show.

What if the next season is just Slappy trying to attract a young man to be her husband? That'd be pretty funny haha

At this point I just want another patb spinoff. They're consistently the better segments.
