Yeah something that I learned is that you have to find a place and barber that works for you. The supercuts or shitty barber who only knows how to give buzz cuts isn't going to isn't going to do a great job if you ask for a recommendation. Some places will be more attentive to this kind of thing and even include a scrapbook collection of various haircuts so you can point and choose or they can choose for you based on that.
I used to just show my driver's license or ID card and tell them to cut just like that. Ever since covid started i've been just cutting it myself, though.
Worst part is when the person starts to engage in conversation, though. I do appreciate it, but it always makes me nervous since i don't know how to answer.

With me it was because for 20 years all I needed to do was go into my usual barbershop and ask for a #3. That got me a cheap, if really generic, haircut that looked fine on kids, teens, or adults, was that was suitable for any situation and I’ve never cared enough about my hair to experiment so I pretty much had the one haircut for my entire life. Then the owner died, all the other barbers either retired or moved away, and then I found out only they used that particular system so no other "hair salon" which apparently is totally different from a barbershop somehow knows what I’m talking about when I ask for a #3. Even when I showed them pictures of the haircut I want they always found someway to screw it up. To make it even worse they’re all way more expensive for some reason, even the smaller privately owned shops. Eventually I just started shaving my hair short myself just to avoid dealing with them.
It’s not so much they were the only ones to use to a style chart, it’s that no one else uses the style chart they had. Oh sure sometimes they have something that looks close enough to my precious #4, but when you’re the kind of sperg who had has the exact same haircut for 20 years, “close enough” actually isn’t for weirdos like me. Beside, like I said they charge way too much now. My old guy used to only charge me $5 but everywhere else I find now wants to charge me at minimum $10 but usually it’s $15! I’m not spending $15 for on a haircut! I could be spending that money on comics I won’t buy but will still b***h about here anyway
I've been going to the same barber for 20 years, I get charged 30 for a hair and beard combo. It's gone up from 15 to 30 over the years. 15 isn't that expensive for a haircut, it's just sounds like your old barber never charged his prices. Because his were just irregular. I struggle with this, I used to say "just a normal haircut" but that is open to interpretation depending on the barber. I also hate how they try to talk to me, I don't have anything to say to you that isn't about my hair. I don't watch sports and I don't do anything for a living, shut up and cut my hair.
I just say "give me a regular short haircut." It's not fancy and I'm sure I can ask for something better, but I have a good barber and he makes it work. It's probably more complicated for women and people with long hair.
I'm sympathetic to this only since my haircuts required different requests so I had my mom get my haircuts with me up until I was like 14. If you're a female, you require a lot more work with your cuts, it requires more knowledge about hair and is something you might not even know what to request if you haven't done it before.

Usually these types of people never really spoke for themselves before. So they get into a situation where they're in control and it's like oh frick, what do I do? What do I say? What's the right thing to say? What if I dont like it?

Me personally, I dont know what I'd want or what looks good on me, and my self esteem is way too low to even think anything looks good on me. So I just say I want a fade and say yes to whatever they interpret that as. Basically, an inkling of an idea, but not enough to give a full picture.

As a channer male myself I do enjoy going to places like parks, libraries, museums, or just walking around my neighborhood. But I'm so asocial I'd have no idea what to do or say if some stranger just started talking to me, attractive or otherwise.
This is why a shared activity helps. It gives you something to do and talk about in a somewhat structured way that reduces awkwardness. You can default to talking about the activity instead of saying how lonely you are and want friends even if that's what everyone is thinking deep down.
I love that shit too. I went to the Met in NYC for my 23rd birthday and walked around the Upper East Side. Probably the most chill birthday in memory. Haven’t been able to really go to any museums lately, which has been killing me.

Yeah, the english release of volume 19 dropped recently.
The manga is heading for an end soon (between 23-26), but it has definitely shifted away from its premise and tone.
The scope of the manga changed from being entirely character to cast centered sitcom, and it's clear it has gone softer as the series moves on.
There's been a lack of energy to the drawings too I feel, as the dramatics and flares it had in the earlier installments have vained.
I like that the cast support hightened sides to Tomoko as characters, and that her bonds are founded on mutual understanding, which was a good support as to not make the series be carried on solely her alone.
Either way, it's a give and take.
I keep on justifying as to why I read it or see some neuance to what it has become, so I'm biased in that regard.

Yeah something that I learned is that you have to find a place and barber that works for you. The supercuts or shitty barber who only knows how to give buzz cuts isn't going to isn't going to do a great job if you ask for a recommendation. Some places will be more attentive to this kind of thing and even include a scrapbook collection of various haircuts so you can point and choose or they can choose for you based on that.
I used to just show my driver's license or ID card and tell them to cut just like that. Ever since covid started i've been just cutting it myself, though.

Then the owner died, all the other barbers either retired or moved away, and then I found out only they used that particular system so no other "hair salon" which apparently is totally different from a barbershop somehow knows what I’m talking about when I ask for a #3. Even when I showed them pictures of the haircut I want they always found someway to screw it up. To make it even worse they’re all way more expensive for some reason, even the smaller privately owned shops. Eventually I just started shaving my hair short myself just to avoid dealing with them.

The manga is heading for an end soon (between 23-26), but it has definitely shifted away from its premise and tone.
The scope of the manga changed from being entirely character to cast centered sitcom, and it's clear it has gone softer as the series moves on.
There's been a lack of energy to the drawings too I feel, as the dramatics and flares it had in the earlier installments have vained.
I like that the cast support hightened sides to Tomoko as characters, and that her bonds are founded on mutual understanding, which was a good support as to not make the series be carried on solely her alone.
Either way, it's a give and take.
I keep on justifying as to why I read it or see some neuance to what it has become, so I'm biased in that regard.
