The last season was misery kino
It was goddamn heartbreaking. Gardocki got fricked over harder than anyone I've ever seen in television and film. "YOU'RE GODDAMN... SORRY?!" his acting chops really shined towards the end. Wish they utilized him more.
Cry? No. Thought it was fricking awesome? Yes.
I've liked Chiklis since the old 'Commish' days, (good little show for its era), so loved seeing him deliver such a groundbreaking performance. Chiklis as Mackey is just simply one of the best TV characters period. The scene in the interrogation room and the camera was as awesome as it TV gets. Then the ambiguity of the final scene was icing on the cake. Bloody brilliant.
Shows what a missed opportunity it was to cast him in 'Fantastic Four' and not have the script put him to good use. That guy can fricking deliver. God I love that 'space mountain' line.
Gardocki's character brought to the foreground was one of my favourite developments. In a lot of ways, though it doesn't seem like it, he's even more of a scumbag than the others.
I didn't realise it watching it the first time, but I read the observation that every single cop in the show is corrupt in their own way, whether it's that malingering shithead with the vending machines, Aceveda with his political ambitions, or even Wagenbach with his tendencies toward women and very real ambiguous possibility he might not have just killed cats.
Great fiction to have been developed from the IRL Rampart Scandal.
im still on season 1. it's so formulaic that i just cant be bothered watching it a lot of the time
Literally the first episode establishes that the show is anything but formulaic.
Everything is a product of its time. When The Shield aired, it was breaking conventions of the police procedural genre. Now it has so many imitators that it seems formulaic to brainlets like you.
yeah the first episode wasn't but now that I'm around episode 10 it all feels very repetitive.
It's one of the rare shows where every season it gets better and better with a spectacular ending
first season is easily the weakest but enjoy the goofy sub-plots and side characters for as long as you can cuz around s3 things get kicked up a notch
you mean the money train, which takes a cop show and turns it into a "criminals who happen to be police officers, kinda, try to get away with robbing organized crime" show.
The money train shit was trash
and it killed the show. as everything after it was just them dealing with the aftermath of it.
it didn't kill the show dumbass, it was the cornerstone of the show. That and Terry Crowley's death
>oh no will they get away with it?? oh they did oh no will they get away with what they did to get away with it??
continue ad infinitum. it was shit.
>the show is anything but formulaic.
>Vic and gang do something immoral
>Cat and mouse "will they get caught?" for the rest of the season
That's pretty much the whole show, it wouldn't be that noticeable if it were shorter though
I think you can break any tv show down to 3 or 4 lines of greentext. I would love to be proven wrong however.
>Carmella is bored
>Tony is having a mid life crisis
>someone dies at the end otherwise nothing happens
>Vic has a plan
>Shane fricks it up
>Aceveda needs a dirty job done and Vic gets a pass
Yeah I get it that The Shield can be done, I'm actively trying to think of a show whose seasons can't be turned into 3 lines or 4.
I think The Expanse
>Voyager finds tech/wormhole that can get them home
>Can't use it for some reason
>Neelix molests a child
the first episode establishes the formula of
>the good cops will try to solve things the right way, but then they'll hit a wall, and call vic
>When The Shield aired, it was breaking conventions of the police procedural genre.
Too bad it came out the same year as the wire, and where the shield was "breaking conventions" for the sake of being as edgy as FX would allow, the wire broke them to serve a larger thesis.
The Wire is fricking dogshit.
its okay if it went over your head. you might enjoy homicide though. but that gets way to emmy-baity as it goes.
I'm watching the 1st season of The Wire and I just got done watching the episode where DeAngelo teaches the younger kids chess. I was blown away! I had to watch it a couple times to really pick up on it, but did you guys realize that when he was teaching them about the chess pieces, he was really referring to THEM being the pawns! What an amazing metaphor!
It was so deep and meaningful, I am amazed by the deep symbolism of this.
Do the later seasons continue on with masterful symbolism like this? This was truly the pinnacle of storytelling that I have ever seen on a television show, and I think I can confidently say The Wire is the best show ever made without even having seen the entire series.
Also the acting is amazing. Idris Elba and Dominic West do a great job with their Baltimore accents.
reminder: that was originally posted, in earnest, to the wire's imdb board.
Is The Wire and The Sopranos being mogged by, respectively, The Shield and Deadwood the real redpill?
>haha he called him a wienersucker
A pie-faced wienersucker.
deadwood? no one talks about that
Ok boomer. Go watch some more CSI
it's a blend of police procedural and overarching plot with the strike team. if you want to be this reductive
then every show is formulaic
>then every show is formulaic
Yes, the only difference is some are shorter than others so it's more bearable
sounds like you dont like watching tv bro
or maybe that the shield is a slog and the ending is obvious from the first episode.
Trust me, you can not predict the ending from the first fricking episode.
the first episode establishes he's going to keep bending the rules harder and harder, but the "good" he does will cause him to be protected, and he'll end up in a desk "job" where he's forbidden from doing any actual police work.
no kidding? you figured out corrupt cops would eventually get caught? damn man you must be a genius
>caught
everyone knew he was corrupt from the first episode.
You're right, there are a few shows I like though
It's a TV show that knows how to be a damn good one
BA WIT DA BA
DA BANG DA BANG
DIBBY DIBBY
haha is that what the mexican shouts in the intro song
I have never seen it put into words
No
type out what the mexican shouts in the intro song
do it .............. now
MY NAME IS KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIID
THE KILLER IN ME IS THE KILLER IN YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
how come no one makes fan videos for shows like this anymore?
Copyright strikes. I used to create videos like that just because I enjoyed doing it and wanted to learn some video editing and then one day got 3 copyight strikes all of a sudden and my channel was terminated. No point in wasting your time when it all can disappear at any moment. Also, zoomers can't torrent.
>tfw no fascist police brotherhood to execute ppl with
I'll tell you what, if Vic was in Uvalde he wouldn't have listened to orders and stood outside while kids were getting shot
WHEN YOU TURNED OUT THE LIGHT
AND WALKED OUT THE DOOR
I SAID TO MYSELF "WHAT DID I COME HERE FOR?"
Great show, finished it recently, based Billings is my favourite
No one truly got a good ending. Everything was so miserable and gut wrenching I loved it.
JUST ANOTHER DAAAAAAY
i couldnt get past the second season. i tried i really did. its just too stupid
Filtered fedora
Seasons 5-7 is at the highest possible level of quality for a television show. Slog through the first 3 seasons and you'll be rewarded.
SPOOK STREET
Say what you want about how terrible of a person Vic was, but jesus he was a G. He became full on criminal towards the end. A real fearless piece of shit and it was fricking awesome.
One of the best character arcs ever written.
what fricking arc? He never questions himself and he never changes
Did you miss the entire end of the show?
you mean when he's sitting there angry that everyone else pulled him off the street?
If that's all you've taken from that ending then you truly are stupid. I will no longer reply to you.
acting like the shield was good kinda removes your ability to take any sort of intellectual high ground
No? For someone who claims Shield is shit you sure missed the point. He reflects on the fact that he burned everything around him for nothing. All his previous justification of why he does what he does are gone.
No muh team, no muh family, no muh street cred. All he has is his cucked life that will gnaw on him and he prevent him from ever forgetting what that immunity cost him.
and it was everyone else's fault.
but hey, since he doesn't say anything, you can project some sort of sudden and uncharacteristic character development onto him, and feel like the show had a point.
>Vic doesn't turn to camera and speaks directly to anon to tell what he feels right now hence he le angry
Him setting up phots of the family he never will see and friends he destroyed with a face on the verge of tears in an empty soulless office is too much to comprehend for a big brain like you?
anon, from the scene alone, we both have equal evidence for your interpretation and the interpretation that he doesn't accept any responsibility for his actions. except the former has no basis at all and the latter is consistent with the entire show, start to finish.
>he doesn't accept any responsibility
Where did you think I said he did? He is a sociopath.
I literally said that he has no more cope left to lull him. That's it. That's the scene. Where do you think I'm saying he accepts his "punishment"? When he picks up his gun and walks back to the street in defiance of his guilt?
>he has no more cope left to lull him.
except that isn't true. its still everyone else's fault.
That's literally your interpretation. And it's not backed up by the final scene in the slightest. He is not teary-eyed over pictures of his family because he blames the feds for sitting him behind the desk. It's just your autism and bias spilling out into the thread to make the character seem stupider than he is. Sorry bud.
he's angry, on the verge of tears, because everyone else took everything from him.
if you notice, we're actually both saying the same thing. you're just adding a layer of headcanon/fanfiction to the ending.
Did you? He never asks himself "is this too much?", he never looks back at his actions, he never regrets anything.
If he at least had some sort of boundaries to eventually cross I would agree, but he doesn't have any, he murders a cop in cold blood in the very first episode.
It would've been a good downward arc if he was only SLIGHTLY dirty at first (like framing and torturing criminals) and he gradually worsens until he crosses the line and kills a cop, but he was always the same
>unintimidating
Are you serious? He had the look and demeanor of a pitbull who could maul your face at any time, he was also built like a tank
>Cinemaphile shills shield
>start watching shield
>the baldy bastard is incredibly unintimidating
how am I supposed to take this softly spoken baldy seriously?
you aren't. its basically a parody of a cop show, played completely straight
only moment i shed a tear was when Lem died
I seen 10 mins of this at my mates and couldn't stop laughing at the constant crappy shaky-cam.
My buddy watches this but wont watch the wire "it's too boring"
he's a fricking pleb.
The Shield = Cinemaphile
The Wire = reddit
Cinemaphile is reddit
YOUR reddit
fricking utter plebian
Do you know I have never ever used Reddit?
Therefore your implication of "redditing" shows that you have in fact used the site many times and are in the assumed knowledge you can detect if someone else uses it.
reddit pls go
>Cinemaphile is suddenly shitting on the shield
>suddenly
nah, we shat all over it before the IQ of the site dropped to "shield enjoyer" level.
>we
yep. we. though i'm probably the only one still here who's been on the site since 2003.
Woah, you're so cool. I hope when I grow up I get to be an oldgay just like you. Frick off, c**t.
wow you're so mad.
using concrete blonde - long time ago in the ending credits with a montage of scenes throughout the show where everyone was happy and working together had me ugly crying
Shane's suicide note was so sad.
Yeah, it's pretty sad how they all end up. Murder, suicide, treason and fall. I'm getting sick of all these shows that not only don't have a happy ending but everything and everyone ends up miserable. The Sopranos, Sons of Anarchy, Rome, Lost, The Shield, GoT, etc.
Happy endings suck. No such thing as happy endings in life
the day i die will be the happiest day of my life.
SPOOK STREET SPOOK STREET
only for lem
WELL WELL WELL IF IT AINT THE Black person WITH THE Black person homosexual SON IM SEEING WITH THOSE 2 EYES OF MINE, BARNS CLOSED ANTOINE
ahem
He didn't deserve it, bros. His ending was so fricked.
Ronnie could have gotten away, but Vic convinced him to stay, only to hang him. What Vic did to Ronnie is maybe worse than what Shane did to Lem, when you consider what Ronnie's life was likely like inside.
Should have run, man. Guy absorbed six seasons of Vic's bullshit but couldn't see the writing on the wall.
he deserved it when he stopped vic from calling off the hit on shane.
Ronnie was operator as frick
He DID deserve it. So did Lem.
they deserved it for trusting Vic
why did he cry like a b***h when Shane died but didn't bat an eye when he saw Lem's blown up corpse?
I never gave much thought to the Shield because it just looked like a basic cable version of The Wire but it doesn't look half bad. Might have to check it out
why did he do it bros
conversion therapy has a lot of consequences
she was running too much or some shit
>his entire acting style involved being out of breath
>killed his wife for the same reason
deepest lore
b***h be trippin and he needed to untrip her.
Goddamit Julien!
>mfw I will never be scolded by Dani
>mfw I take Dani out on a date and she goes back inside to put a gun in her handbag
HE FUC-- I MEAN SCREWED MY EX WIFE
If I had one criticism of The Shield it would be how ridiculous it was that they used literally every vulgarity imaginable except for that specific one.
network requirements
I heard that they were finally allowed to use one "frick" in the finale and they wanted to give it to Claudette when she confronts Vic, but then they decided it was out of character and didn't use it
>they wanted to give it to Claudette when she confronts Vic, but then they decided it was out of character and didn't use it
it would have been out of character, so good call there. Could have given it to Ronnie when he was being arrested.
FX did start letting their shows use "frick" later on. I think The People vs OJ was the first.
OH MEO--
Is Burn Notice any good?
Borrowed the boxset from a friend 13 years ago and watched everything except the last season. Honestly can't remember a single memorable scene from the whole thing
pleb
anon, the shield is purest plebbait.
please
WE WERE SUPPOSED TO RUN
TOGETHER
HE'S PISSING
Wiregays eternally seething about The Shield
what makes you think people who like the wire more than it's moronic cousin are angry about anything?
i like both
i can't find a fricking torrent for this shit and I refuse to pay up
123movies
Sometimes I wish the show had just been about them, male/female partnerships in shows like these are usually fricking garbage but this one worked so well. Dutch going apeshit on that Hispanic who tried to kill Claudette for that killclock thing was great, took the whole fricking Barn to pull him off
Mogged the frick out of the Striketeam™ stroylines
I wonder how much longer Claudette lasted
I felt bad for Sticky Fingaz
Sex gifs
>yeah i stole the money train but.... uh... i'm gonna do you some favors and then we'll be even here.
ridiculous but also alpha as frick
Was Kavanaugh literally autistic?
Yes. Gum?
>it's a Vic straps some guy to a chair with c4 and blows up a whole building to interrogate him
Sell me on it
Where do we go after The Shield? Is Justified any good? Walton Goggins fricking carried season 7.
justified is just the shield with more formula and a non-corrupt cop
Not really its a different show, very dad-core but its good
>You told them... ALL OF IT?
This dude was fricking great. This entire scene was great. Acted masterfully. You could feel the fricking rage in this man. Best depiction of betrayal ever.
imagine the amount of sex hes gonna have in jail
I remember many years ago Kurt Sutter said he would do a sequel based on Ronnie because he will have to join Aryan faction in the prison to stay alive.
Maybe he does not do it because he can not write his ugly prostitute wife into a part haha
i have very mixed feelings about sutter doing anything t b h.
tho i find it probable that there are jails made especially for cops, because even america cant be so stupid as to not recognize that this would be almost a death sentence otherwise.
>i have very mixed feelings about sutter doing anything t b h.
Same haha
I actually liked Executioner because it is very novel to have a medieval wales
He can stick mexican sons of anarchy up his ass however I think he has lost it.
The fate of Ronnie as others have said in this thread is horrific (the blonde guy too whose name I forget). He should just leave the imagining of that fate to the imagination the same as he left Vics fate to the imagination.
That actually would have been kino but in reality, he was probably put far away from reach of the people him and the strike team put in the slammer. Was most likely put up in some fed prison removed from general population. Still, he's getting life.
Say what you want about Mara, but she loved Shane with all of her heart and never actively betrayed him and did everything she could for him until the very end. She truly loved him and he loved her more than life itself. Vic lost all of that and he will die a very sad and lonely man. At least shane went out on his own terms.
yep and she was also hot af when pregnant.
His fate is one worse than death. Especially if Antwon gets ahold of him.
honestly looking back The Shield was top-tier when it came to female characters
yea
but mara was annoying as frick
"Ah my favorite" Damn.
I just looked up Kurt Sutter and what he is doing
He got fired from FX so no more mayans
He is doing stuff for netflix now
Also I did not know until I seen his photo that kurt sutter is the armenian footgay hitman haha
>Also I did not know until I seen his photo that kurt sutter is the armenian footgay hitman haha
No fricking way lmao
So, is Justified or The Shield better?
they're both kinda shit, but if you're a moron you'll love both.
Well, I watched the Shield and loved it (I'm OP) so I guess I'll like Justified.
Justified is a bit more cartoony and less realistic. Basically a modern day western.
I miss ZODIAC MOTHERFRICKER
