Anyone else read this?
It's pretty good.
I like the Year One/Mazzucchelli approach of the art. Any other comics like this, aside from Batman: Year One and Gotham Central?
Do you think it compares favorably to The Long Halloween?

I dunno but I made this.
Checked
My money's on BataB
But NAMTMAN has the money.
>90 days no fap vs relapsed
Always a laugh.
NAMTMAN is one of the most frightening things I've ever seen.
In 1995 they did a bunch of Year One villain stories for the Batman annuals. Scarecrow, Riddler, Ivy, Man-Bat. Legends of the Dark Knight has tons of these stories. There’s also dozens of minis and one-shots. Matt Wagner’s Monster Men and Mad Monk are pretty good and lead right into Man Who Laughs.
Batman’s early days have been explored more than ANY comic character, debatably to the point of absurdity. I still feel they somehow never took full advantage of it… there’s lots of inconsistency
Oh, and I guess if you’re asking specifically about the art then I’m not sure. I think Brubaker’s Catwoman went for the Mazzuchelli style but it’s bizarrely underrepresented in the comics
>Brubaker’s Catwoman went for the Mazzuchelli style
I don't remember that. I'll have to look at it again.
>there’s lots of inconsistency
Only if you consider Long Halloween and Dark Victory as part of the timeline. Remove those two and everything fits together just fine.
Very good story. The serial killer going after old ladies is a interesting take to be the one to drive Dent over the edge, but TLH made more sense as Loeb provided WAY more context to the mob stuff than Harvey's golden age origin.
Robin Year one has a HEAVILY Mazzucchelli inspired art style. Kind of middle of the road story though, for a Dixon comic. He plays it safe since it's Dick's post-Zero Hour canon origin (Year 3 got erased, just like TLH erased Year Two).
Personally I liked it more than Long Halloween, though that might be because I’ve read it more recently. In particular I really liked the inclusion Harvey’s father and his wife’s characterization.
It was a combination of the serial killer, his father, his own people, Batman, and the mob that made him turn.
Robin Year One isn't an origin story as Dick is already Robin at the start of it. It's meant to be preceded by Dixon's Robin Annual #4 and The Gauntlet.
It's alright. The art of TLH gives it more merit. It also breathes better as a reading experience. The annual is a typical word stuffed comic from the era.
Comic nerds love finding obscure floppies and harping on them as the best, true masterpieces but they're usually painfully dated and underwhelming.
TLH is only slightly better because of the pacing and art.

This.
It's ok.
The four of a kind trade, prey and snow are all great stories
I honestly always thought Prey was one of Batman's most cinematic stories and it's a surprise it hasn't been adapted yet to any other medium. It's a really fun read
God, I'm still mad how fake leaks for Arkham City referenced it, by claiming that Hugo Strange in a Batsuit will be a boss. It would've been so much better than what really happened to Strange.
It's one thing that sours me on Arkham City.
Yeah, it's the best take on his origin.
Batman: Year Two is great. Mike W. Barr is my favorite writer because he consistently wrote a badass Batman. It's the true sequel to Year One. The Long Halloween is practically plagiarized from this annual and the Godfather movies. Loeb is such a hack writer, and when he doesn't base his story on something, you get shit like Hush.
I always heard it was shit.
