By virtue of not being subjected to dumb editorial rules and writers/fans who seek to retread the best of stories into the ground.
They are, usually because they get to explore what made them popular heroes in the first place.

Probably explains why I like the X-Men cartoons and movies when I see them but they just seem to be Pricks in the main comics.

This is why I prefer AUs and limited runs. There's no driving shit into the ground and ruining it due to being too little butter spread over too much bread. Like, take a look at the MCU; it was great when it started out and had a relatively well defined scope, but then it just kept fricking growing, now everybody's tired of it and writers keep making stupid decisions.

I like to see them not risk in reality themselves next time I go see an MCU film not so and I'll be able to do that again I got to get someone to drive me and watch it with me. Shut the first mutant MCU film just affects how normal people see mutants in the MCU?

          Anonymous

Reminder you won't see X-men in the MCU until 2025.
Marvel got the Fox-men but that also came with contracts already sign. The contracts say they can't replace the actor (X-men specifically) until the contract runs out. That's why you see Sir Patrick Stewart as professor X, and Evan Peters as quick silver in Wandavision.

            >Evan Peters as quick silver in Wandavision.
            wasn't that red herring?

              Anonymous

It was, but there seem to be a number of people still seething about that twist, and hoping that will get retconned so it really was Fox Quicksilver pretending to be Ralph Boner pretending to be Fox Quicksilver. I don't know why either.

So? That was still Evan Peters playing Quicksilver.

I remember once Nightcrawler hadd to lie he isn't a mutie but was bitten by a radioactive something so he is blue and the guy bought it.

Considering how much less the X-Men behave like buttholes in that universe is probably more than five times as safe as in 616.

It was implied that was a one-time thing like she was regretting it by the end of the comic Arc and MJ was saying she didn't deserve to go to jail with Magneto and Emma.

Born with powers = mutant. Editorial just wants to have an IP distinction so the daughter doens't fall into X-Flavored shenanigans.

          >Born with powers = mutant
Varies by continuity, but I don't think that's the standard in ANY continuity.

Most mutants aren't born with powers and Marvel's always been fast and loose with the term "power". Not getting into Macbethian pedantry over use of "born", the term "mutant" (in 616 continuity and in any other unless specified) means
          >born with an unnatural physiology or capacity for the species OR THE ABILITY TO DEVELOP THAT PHYSIOLOGY OR CAPACITY
Unnatural as in it can't be a naturally occurring variation in the population.
Physiology as in just having 3 faces or being born with a stinger arm would count.
Capacity means shit like actual powers like eye beams but also being able to innately learn or do shit beyond the bounds of what is natural like master psychic powers (something technically anyone can do) stupidly quickly or have a perfect comprehension of geometry and spatial awareness
The ability to develop means it can active later like your x-gene activating at puberty (assuming x-genes really come from Deviant ancestry which is a whole thing right now because Marvel fricked their continuity) or your Inhuman genes activating when exposed to Terrigen.

            Anonymous

Inhuman genes don't activate when exposed to the Terrigen Mists. Inhuman genes are always active, they're why Inhumans respond as they do to Terrigenesis.

as most people in the thread already explained mostly everyone tends to come across more sympathetic and hopeful in AUs on account of not being slammed again the sisyphean existence of editorial status quo, that's more or less what made Ultimate more popular before, well you know.

Most AUs have better potential than current comics from the big 2. It has been that way for quite a while now. Mainline continuity has so much baggage mixed with bad writers fricking up characterization and continuity that they read like bad AU fan fiction anyway.

I said it once and I'll say it again.

According to Hickman's notes, Krakoa was a paradise intended to bring out the worst in the X-men cast so that when things inevitably blow up they re-learn a lesson that no people can be an island unto themselves.

That said, Krakoa looks like it is going to be going on well past Inferno because it sells well and seems to be too interesting a sandbox for writers to play in.

So, yeah, the ethno-?sexual? state X-men is here to stay and with it the moral that segregation wasn't wrong, just that the wrong people were in charge

Peter was given two AUs and Marvel systematically destroyed both of them because they rule that he's NEVER allowed to be happy.

RYV Peter got off better than MC2 Peter at least. He only got cancelled, instead of being cancelled, killed, then resurrected as the other for shitty event bait.

Also it is a pretty decent AU that sadly got the usual multiverse story that it seems every Au is obligated to participate in even if it makes no sense and makes for a shitty arc.
