Are soundbars any good?

Or are they just boomer shit?

All the soundbars i have tested had trash sound, with way too much bass for explositions and with the dialogues totally lost in the noises...

Compared to TV speakers? They’re godly.

Outside of that, compared to actual speakers..
      ...no, they are no good.

I am the frugal man and I say soundbars are good

I am more frugal than you, and I say my floor speakers that I found for free on someone's curb, my $30 subwoofer, and my hand-me-down receiver are at least 5 times better than some shitty soundbar

        >i'm more frugal than you
you don't know that even based on the information I just said. you don't know enough and i don't appreciate your comment in it's entirety due to this behavior. I will be hiding your comments now.

        >driver excursion
You can't beat physics, that's why your curbside pickup system is better. Check the inside of the cabinet for mold, paper diaphragms are perfectly fine soundwise, but if stored improperly will mold quickly.

That setup is not 5x better than a modern soundbar lmfao

The tiny cone size means it will never provide quality audio. A decent pair of stereo speakers would be a better investment

you're better off getting a quality pair of headphones or investing surround sound. TV and films are mixed for 50+ channels of sound so a soundbar or TV speakers are never going to give you a listenable experience.

It's better than the tvs built in speakers but it's not as good as a full sound system if that is what your wondering.

Audiophiles are dummies who spend too much shit on things they don’t need.
    Soundbars are perfectly fine.

Well, yes. It is like this:
You need volume to make decent sound.

      >You need volume to make decent sound.
Turns out soundbars do not actually have volume

They're almost certainly going to be better than whatever you're TV speakers are, but not really worth the money you spend. Most of the improved sound quality from soundbars is coming from the paired subwoofer, which sucks and is underwhelming.

You're better off saving money and buying a 2.0 stereo system, or a 2.1. I wouldn't bother with a surround sound system unless you have a dedicated room for it, and live in a proper house.

They're a lot better than TV speakers. Not as good as a budget 5.1 or 7.1 system though.

I have a HW-Q950A and it sounds better than anything I ever had before. I guess it depends on how much you're willing to spend.

Soundbars are worth it if you can get a mid-range set with a subwoofer and even a meagre surround sound (even just 2 extra speakers make a noticeable difference).

I miss my 7.2 surround but don't miss the wires. I now use a Polk s4 with built in atmos and it's good.

I have a Bose 600 sound and it's pretty good even without the sub speaker (I live in an apartment building so I don't wanna be an butthole to my neighbors with outrageous bass).

    >Dialog clarity is trash
Turn the treble up on the soundbar. Also, Samsung TVs have this thing called Q Symphony, unlike other sound bars hat mute the TV speakers when active, Samsung Q Symphony keeps the TV speakers on along with the soundbar so you get really crisp clean high end that helps with dialog clarity. Also if you're streaming, sometimes you gotta mess with the sound settings of the streaming app. I know for me, I often switch Netflix from the default 5.1 surround setting to regular stereo and that helps with dialog clarity sometimes. The thing with soundbars is don't skimp on quality and get some off brand piece of shit.

    >be streaming service
    >mix TV show to use fricking 11.1 surround and ATMOS
    >push it as the default option when 90% of people are running TVs with stereo laptop speakers crammed into them

The center channel is virtual and barely exists if you’re trying to watch something quietly, it really effect's spoken word. It’s a drastic improvement over the tv speaker but I’d recommend saving up for a legitimate theatre stereo system.

Nope, they stink. Don't let a woman talk you into them over a real sound setup. They are better than tv speakers but that's not saying much at all. You can find old Denons and other good stuff on ebay cheap.

Women don’t care about sound quality they only care about cords. If they think about cords they have a mental breakdown.

I dunno, I only frick with receivers, the only soundbar I've bought was better than tv speakers but not that great, the one my brother has at his house sounds pretty good, and the one I bought my parents because their TV speakers were exceptionally shitty was a lot better than I expected, it's an all-in-one with the sub built in.
It really depends on YOUR ear, setup, and room size. Audiophiles are obviously going to tell you they're shit.

Also, check your settings, there's usually options to level out the audio and make dialog louder and explosions a little lower.

It'll be 100x better than the tinny shit speakers that come in a tv, though it won't be anything on a proper AV receiver and a 3.1 speaker setup.
