In my country we have a name for this male equivalent term which would translate to “leftist male”, a guy that pretends to agree with feminist propaganda to approach women but is actually a chad in disguise. The closest American term I can think of is simp but it’s not that close as simps generally are not sexually attractive while “leftist males” are.

Dunno what her reasoning is exactly but most of times when someone describes their protagonist as a "strong female character character" it's usually a boring badass girlboss that don't need no man etc etc that the writer is terrified of giving genuine flaws or failings cause they don't want to make women look "weak"

Yes. Her problem with it is likely that she has been somewhat typecast as that due to Edge of Tomorrow and receives more offers for similar rolls. Even though her role in Sicario is a much more nuanced one, it still reinforced her type.

        Anonymous

The thing is she has that c**t look to her, she feels unapproachable even when she's playing a charming, humble character.
It's even worse if she is a genuinely nice person irl because the first impression everyone has is that she's not
Her most charming role is still in the devil wears prada

That's interesting because the only notable role of hers that I can't think of is Edge of Tomorrow. Even Sicario feels a bit of a "subversion" as her character ends up being shown as naive and completely out of her depth despite her career as a fed agent

I think it depends on what you mean by 'strong'.
Good writing: It means a well-rounded, believable, sympathetic character
Typical modern israeliteywood writing: Rey Skywalker, Captain Marvel, Michael Burnham
i.e. over-capable, often unlikable c**t with no character development possible because they're already perfect.

        Anonymous

It doesn't even have to be well rounded or massively well written. A cool likeable effective (female) action hero can still be a strong female character.
As posted above, og Lara Croft (and og LC only) was a strong female character done right, until she got a woke reboot.

Movies after 2015 or so are intolerable for their "strong female leads". I simply can't watch them because of it, and I'm a left-wing, democratic-socialist kind of guy.

Dyke rambo, gay superman, woman this, woman that... Sure, maybe women like these movies, but I don't.

Some were organic, like resident evil. The Lost cast had strong women in it, but still women, not men cast as women.

You can just tell they're forced there and it's unbearable.

I guess you don't watch a lot of films then.
Also Will Smith. When I first watched "I am Legend" I never once thought "this is a black character therefore I can't relate to him".
I imagine it's the same with most black people watching white actors. But the thing is, now that I know that skin color is carefully selected for, I can't help but notice it every time. This kind of bullshit creates division and polarization instead of "helping" with it.

They're acting like women only just got the right to vote and there was never any original IP with female leads before RIGHT NOW. It's insufferable and disingenuous, just trying to cash in on social trends.

strong female character was supposed to mean
    >a fully realized female character that has aspirations/motivation/some relevance to the plot outside of being solely a love interest. a character that feels like a real person and not just window dressing or a plot device.
hollywood producers, morons, and modern feminists (also morons) took it to mean
    >a girl who can totally kick ass and acts like a man lmao
when non-morons talk about a strong character they don't mean someone who is necessarily powerful, they mean someone who feels real or fully realized. sansa in the asoiaf books is a strong character despite being basically powerless every time she appears.

            Iceman

Lara Croft was very pretty in the reboot but aside from the model the game had nothing going for it. By the third title the combat somehow managed to get worse. The devs never capitalized on Lara's beauty or had fun with the character. All of her alternate outfits are samey looking boring bullshit that had zero imagination. "Muh daddy" and "muh daddy's clues" are THE most boring fricking thing to watch a chick protagonist rustle through. Lara should be confident and sexy. The chick you want to bang and show off because she's hot and cool. It really doesn't get more basic than that and they frick it all up. No one talks about the trilogy for the story or repetitive gameplay. Lara Croft doesn't make traction these days outside of the hope that the next installment will be good. Crystal Dynamics had a winning formula with the reboot and then they fricking recycled it. Just suddenly ancient evil awakens on this little island and now Lara has to shoot arrows at ghost warriors. Just, the frick.

Starling is a perfect example. She is given the case precisely because her superiors don't think she can crack it, she gets hit on all the time, frick, an inmate literally tosses jizz on her at one point. She doesn't let that stop her, she converses with Lecter, (the devil himself) and manages to not only get enough information to solve the case, but win his respect.
She's strong because she overcomes things that would cause weaker women to quit the case, or go crying to HR about sexual harassment.
Imagine if Silence of the Lambs was remade today. She would be the director of the FBI despite being a 28 year old woman, snarkily put down Lecter and her co-workers before 360 noscoping Buffalo Bill and quipping about his manhood being too small.

There is nothing inherently wrong with a strong female lead per se, but strength has to be earned on screen. You can`t just say "yeah, this character is badass" and make it so. The character has to struggle trough a lot of trials and tribulations, experience loss and defeat and almost break and then it has to find a plausible way to come on top, not a magical power up way but something that pushes the character to it`s limits. Once they succeed they can be regarded as strong. It doesn`t really work if the movie skips all that and goes directly for the character being op as frick and able to breeze through everything. If a character is not facing unsurmountable odds you can`t convey strength because the conflict lacks strength. Furthermore, characters shouldn`t be reduced to tropes like that. They need unique personalities, unique conflicts. Generic back stories like "i was never able to be X because i`m a girl and the world is unfair to girls" won`t make a character iconic or memorable.
