looks like something from a creepy pasta.
i don't even think a mouth like that is possible with the masseter muscle so far away from the front end of the jaw.
I wish there were more monsters in movies that don't look they exist only to scare me. I can't be scared by the pic in the OP because it's too obviously supposed to spook me and that creates disassociation that makes me realize how fake it is.
>it looks scary and unknown so it can't be real >it can't be eating me it ain't real homie
NPC logic. You're the irl version of the dweeb that loses it and just gets eaten while the rest get away so in all fairness thank you for your service.
Nah, but I mean something like a great white shark looks terrifying, but I believe it exists for reasons other than scaring me. Same with tarantulas or other scary looking animals. Modern day monsters always look so over the top tbh.
Nah, but I mean something like a great white shark looks terrifying, but I believe it exists for reasons other than scaring me. Same with tarantulas or other scary looking animals. Modern day monsters always look so over the top tbh.
Scary designs lift things from real life because real life things scare us due to instinct. Big mouths = predator = thing that might eat me. Insects/bugs = venom and filth. The beady eyes are hard to read emotion in, and as emotional creatures that rely on body language it to determine threats in non-verbal things, inability to read emotion scares us.
There's also the thing in nature where predators will have appearances specifically for the purpose of letting anything know it is indeed a dangerous predator.
I'd tell you to stop seething and have sex but let's be real here if a modern reimagining of tinkerbell is enough to make you this upset the only thing youte having sex with is your own hand...

The funniest thing about this whole Black person influx is goofy white liberals like Grace Randolph exclaiming how beautiful and ethereal she looks. Like, b***h, you know it looks like a fricking male Black person troony drag queen demon. Stop fricking larping you lying ass deceitful prostitute.
I think of the people turning into plants more than the bear personally, idk that freaked me out more
The creature from The Ritual I thought was a lot cooler than it had any right to be. Went in thinking it was gonna be phoned in and it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the movie.
Right mix of practical effects and CGI.
Annihilation, that movie about the four chicks entering a weird forcefield, has a beat that stalks and kills them. The people killed by it get absorbed into it, and when it growls or roars you can hear human cries mingled with it. The scene where it stalks them inside a house is pretty good.
Annihilation def had some of my favorite monster designs of the last decade
Along with a solid set up could’ve been a modern Alien, shame they fumbled all the characters dropping any interest in seeing them live.
Yeah. Honestly something about this movie seems wholly reddit. Not sure how to describe the it, but the fan base comes off as this (and other cosmic horrors) as transcendental.
>Pic related
Maybe it's a problem with me but I can't get around the feeling all of these are shills.
If you are serious about this you have genuine mental issues along with problems of self-identity. Your enjoyment of something seems highly dependant on how some other website perceives it. This is cringe of the highest order and not healthy. Come up with your own opinions.

I feel like everything that gets a horror reaction on the internet anymore works like that.

That's what I came came here to say, Del Toro isn't perfect but he's the only modern film director who can make new monsters that are actually memorable. Samael in Hellboy was also really cool.
Yeah its among the best G designs ever. Take the 2019 version, keep the longer 2014 tail & make the head a little more proportional the body and it would be 100% the best ever.

There are not many, but i think that it's not about the design of the monster, but the way it is presented. I think that the most memorable monster designs where the ones that where used either with subtlety, or sparingly, and with great build up and atmosphere.
Wayne Barlow is top tier but one of the parts I liked about the Hellboy was the demon designs. They look Like Medieval and Early Modern depictions of demons which is something that's surprisingly rare in modern media.

I liked all of them except 94s. Easily the worst acting and dialogue in the entire series.
The alien from Beyond the Aquila Rift or whatever animated short that was called was a pretty good. Especially since for a brief second you are expecting a sexy time monster but then it isn't sexy time at all.
The monster/puppet design is cool, but Possum is super overrated as movie. It's one of those "movies" that's just a man wandering around aimlessly for an hour and a half and then it ends. It's not even all that atmospheric. The filmmakers came up with a cool monster design but then had no idea what to actually do with it, especially with their low budget.
I will never understand why we leapfrogged the "let's understand that some people have gender issues and get them the help they need" part and jumped straight to the "let's parade the circus freaks around for views" part.
same
I've always been really scared of ugliness
That movie with cher and the deformed guy also terrified me.
Also the elephant man.
Also that xfiles episode with the circus freaks.
no. it's quite bad except for the indonesian segment, but it's not like the other were masterpieces
and as other have already said in this thread the wraparound story is horrible, bad writing, acting, direction, camerawork, effects. the worst thing in all the v/h/s series

Lupin also has a fantastic monster design
He traumatised me really fricking good, and it always comforts me to see how many other anons shat bricks because of this dude
It's one of the best takes on a werewolf, such a sick and starved design. Literally turned my brain on when this guy transformed, I was so fricking scared

I don't love it either but they aren't going for realism in VHS lol
It's a perspective trick

Yes. The Ritual, Annihilation, Possum.
HHHHHEEEELP MEEEEE
I think of the people turning into plants more than the bear personally, idk that freaked me out more
Good answer
Demigorgon is also a good choice
Demogorgon didn't hold up when revealed more.
I liked The Thing remake split-face.
Splinter was good but feels like they could do more with more budget but dunno tbh.
Resident Evil 2 & 3 video games are the only examples of novel creature design.
This talking bear was based on Gene Wolfe's Alzabo probably, CDDA has Mi-go creatures that're the similar.
qRD?
Annihilation, that movie about the four chicks entering a weird forcefield, has a beat that stalks and kills them. The people killed by it get absorbed into it, and when it growls or roars you can hear human cries mingled with it. The scene where it stalks them inside a house is pretty good.
>Annihilation
I have mixed feelings about the movie but the bear-human, plant-people and final thingamajig were all very creepy designs.
Annihilation def had some of my favorite monster designs of the last decade
Along with a solid set up could’ve been a modern Alien, shame they fumbled all the characters dropping any interest in seeing them live.
There's two monster... The bear and the overly cgi mimic.
the mimic was cool it just had .05 seconds of screentime and they did basically nothing with it
Yeah. Honestly something about this movie seems wholly reddit. Not sure how to describe the it, but the fan base comes off as this (and other cosmic horrors) as transcendental.

Maybe it's a problem with me but I can't get around the feeling all of these are shills.

Why not? How else do I gauge if my reaction to the film is the correct one?
Alright, have another )you(.
If you are serious about this you have genuine mental issues along with problems of self-identity. Your enjoyment of something seems highly dependant on how some other website perceives it. This is cringe of the highest order and not healthy. Come up with your own opinions.
The Ritual butchered the original book, but the monster design was fantastic and made it worth the watch.
Nice.
ah you were at my side all along

Never, God willing. Would be pozzed beyond recognition.
What do you mean? I'm sure it would turn out just as good as the Gunslinger adaptation!

This thing was great. Even the sound alien at the end was great
>Annihilation
Man this had such good designs.
This is just Saturn Devouring His Son.
It's Brook
Is it really in our best interest to base horror entirely on hacking human face detection hardware
I feel like everything that gets a horror reaction on the internet anymore works like that.
So the woman's consciousness definitely didn't fuse with the bear right?
...right?
Being bearfused would rock.
no
dont need it
we live in hell
The creature from The Ritual I thought was a lot cooler than it had any right to be. Went in thinking it was gonna be phoned in and it ended up being one of my favorite parts of the movie.

Shit movie
lol
well memed, my friend
Agree. Damn solid horror movie.
How so? Spoiler it if you want.
100% agreed.
But this was just a good movie all around.
Unironically FNAF animatronics
i thought the pale man from pan's labyrinth was memorable, not really that scary but the design was well done and performance well executed
That's what I came came here to say, Del Toro isn't perfect but he's the only modern film director who can make new monsters that are actually memorable. Samael in Hellboy was also really cool.
*films your lotr movie with a gopro*
I liked Chonkzilla more than most of the JP versions
Yeah its among the best G designs ever. Take the 2019 version, keep the longer 2014 tail & make the head a little more proportional the body and it would be 100% the best ever.

Welcome to Godzilla.
They didn’t change the design later though.
They always do. It's Godzilla.
The director literally said he didn’t want to change the design.
>and then they just change everything in the next one,
Not really, just made the spines more classical & the tail shorter.
Only change I really didn't like was the extended grin crease he had in GVK.
>Someone with talent and a vision creates something good and successful.
>Suits get overly involved and take over the IP

It was dreadful.

That fricking sucked that's just slenderman but with a mouth and 32 points of articulation
>slenderman is the first and only monster who should be a tall skinny man
The only good part out of an otherwise mediocre film.
This was fricking embarrassing. Like something out of a Tim Burton movie.
This looks pretty transphobic...
The new shit Hellboy had just one good scene with some pretty neat designs
>not available
Almost makes want to watch it.
Wayne Barlow is top tier but one of the parts I liked about the Hellboy was the demon designs. They look Like Medieval and Early Modern depictions of demons which is something that's surprisingly rare in modern media.

Didn't see the new season so maybe the other guy is even worse, but the Mind flayer was a dogshit villain.
Mind flayer better be in the finale
Gone from D&D tier to borderline Lovecraftian, and now a guy in a suit.
Damn, I finally realised why that looked familiar.

Coraline’s The Other Mother
The Jottun from The Ritual had interesting design
Wow, the dangling mouth ruins it. Looked creepy in the thumnail like it had the top half of a skull on a long neck but when I clicked.... lol
Idk if 1981 counts but the haunted house ghost girl from Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. Of course the leftist homosexual ruined her in the crap movie and made her into the toe monster.
I don't remember this creature at all. I have no idea if I have ever seen the movie too.
What?
I think I've seen all of the V/H/S movies but I have no recollection of seeing this creature. So it is probably some new chapter that got released and nobody really bothered making threads about it.
I think the very last chapter I watched had the magician with the cape that was eating people in it.
Yeah there's a new one out. It's breddy good. Still corny schlock but not a complete waste of time.
The segments are good the wraparound is complete dogshit
The wraparounds are almost always the worst parts of the V/H/S movies. The only good one imo is the one with the out of control van where everyone around it is going insane and killing each other in over-the-top and silly ways.
I liked all of them except 94s. Easily the worst acting and dialogue in the entire series.
It's apparently from VHS94. I can't believe they made more than a single movie, to be honest. The first one was lame for the most part.
The moment you show the monster, it stops being scary. More movies should embrace that fact and never show the monater.
The Thing says otherwise.
Nun is a decent design when used sparingly, that scene there with the painting is really effective, shame about Conjuring 2 going full moron
Looks like Marilyn Manson

Krampus was cool.
This is a good point, all the monster designs in Krampus were great. I particularly liked the Jack in the Box who ate the fat kid.
The Jack in the Box worm is one of my favorite creature designs ever, I think it is so cool
The alien from Beyond the Aquila Rift or whatever animated short that was called was a pretty good. Especially since for a brief second you are expecting a sexy time monster but then it isn't sexy time at all.

The only good monster design.

I always liked this design as well. Much better than the buff, furry type werewolves
Lol these modern horror creatures ALL look the same. frick you haha
