havent seen anything from this but i bet its el dorado being also super advanced and isolationist like wakanda because they saw how savage their brothers were with human sacrifice but now its coming back because someone makes a deal with some devil and now killing people gives them boons or someshit

Same as Wakandans, a god told them to eat a magical herb infused with vibramium, but unlike wakanda, everyone on the tribe eat it so they could breath under water, then they build a city under the ocean.
Not larp. Mexicans have the highest Native American ancestry out of all Latinos. Mexicans across the board are literally half Native American and half white.
>Mexicans have the highest Native American ancestry out of all Latinos.
Where did you hear that? Peru has a much higher share of Amerindian admixture, even if you count only Spanish speakers.
An execution is not the same as sacrifice, you moron. You think every time a person is killed by a group it is a sacrifice? Jesus, you're a fricking idiot. What a dumb comparison. I hope your trolling, for your sake.
This is a common misconception because of American education. The Mayan urban civilization was mostly degenerated by the time of Spanish contact, but Mayan ethnolinguistic communities continued to live in the Yucatec region and still do. It’s like being “Roman” in 1000 AD, you’re still surrounded by a rich and ancient culture, it just doesn’t control very much beyond the immediate area.
The difference with the Mayans and Romans post collapse is that the Mayan culture is totally gone. No one knows about the Mayan written language or practice any aspect its culture anymore.
You missed the point. Academics studying the Mayan language isn't the same as the Mayan people using it. Mayan culture is effectively dead.

lol mexico has the highest number of native lnaguage speakers in the world nahua and mayan being the most spoken
Bro, you can go to a Mayan village today and eat really good food and watch dancers and have a shaman sprinkle “holy” water over you. I did it, it’s fun. This is what I meant about our educational systems failing us, you think Mayans are like Atlanteans or something because all you remember from 3rd grade is “they were lost”

Actual anon from Yucatán here. Mayan culture is relegated to tourist areas (a common complaint amongst Mayans is precisely that their culture is becoming kind of a carnival attraction), VERY rural, basically impoverished towns, and to old people. Urban areas have nearly 0% Mayan influence beyond trying to force teens to learn Mayan language only to never use it
>the Mayan culture is totally gone
They're literally still right there. There are millions of Mayans in Guatemala and Mexico who speak Mayan languages like Quiché, Tzeltal and Yucatec. I remember reading some human interest piece a couple years ago about rural Mayans who move to New York and LA and need Spanish classes because they never even learned the language in their home countries.
i know they're supposed to be latino or whatever but the dark skinned ones just look like pajeets. so this entire movie looks like a pajeet army. who the frick is going to watch that shit
Why the frick did they choose to make fricking Atlantis the token Hispanic representation? It's like saying you need black representation and being like "BEHOLD, THE INCREDIBLE BLACK ESKIMOS"
Just geographically, a gulf empire with its capital on Yucatán would make sense for a pseudo-Atlantis. The Mediterranean Sea, North and Baltic Seas, Southeast Asia, and the Gulf of Mexico were all ancient aquatic highways.
Because Latinos make up almost 19% of the total US population. Adding fanservice that panders to them might be a good way of pulling them into the cinema and make substantial profit. Basically, they are trying to make a Hispanic Black Panther. It worked with the blacks.
marvel afraid of people assume namor were just cheap aquaman knockoff (even though he debut first)thats why they changing it into aztec/maya lore, you know what i mean like deadpool were pastice of deathstroke and yet people thinking it was slade wilson who copy wade wilson same shit with aquaman and namor its all about recogntion with normies who debut first in live action media
Zapotec
Aztec is a subcategory of Mayan
I dont think that is true. I think the mayan were more prominent earlier than the aztec who had more contact with the Europeans
>who had more contact with the Europeans
they are completely different peoples
The real question is how they survived the smallpox
>The real question is how they survived the smallpox

Mayans lived on the yucatan peninsula. Aztecs lived in the valley of mexico.
The Spaniards replaced their civilization. They are LARPers with a watered-down connection to the past.

Executions have no concern for the past or the future. It's a sacrifice to justice. You appease justice to set the world right.
>burn someone alive for strictly religious purposes while a crowd cheers
>"um dude, that was justice back then, like??"
Frick you.
>>burn someone alive for strictly religious purposes while a crowd cheers
???
Are you stupid? The Inquisition used to ritually murder my people for the "crime" of translating God's word the Bible to the common folks tongue
*doubt*
lmfao what? read a book Black person
>t. Pic
Why does he look like a paki with filters
Aztecs were Northern Mexican barbarians who went We Wuz Mayans.
Mayans were Central Mexican barbarians who went We Wuz Olmecs.
Olmecs were savage Central Americans civilized by Ay LMAOs.
arent aztecs original from the utah area theyre language is even related to the other nativ elanguages in that area
Mayans, it says so in the movie very explicitly
But the mayan civilization was well into decline before the Europeans came yet it clearly shows namor encounter the Spanish

They've cracked like 95% of the language m8. There's an Amazon documentary on it.

Doesn't matter. Namor is neither.

I didn't know Lil Nas X was based and funny. People in the comments are crying that he's spreading misinformation lol

Mediterraneans were mining copper in the americas but had to stop due to the bronze age collapse.
