Blame Avatar. Weeaboos are still made that it's just a cartoon and insist that it HAS to be an anime because it's nothing like Looney Tunes or Spongebob. Hell, Cyberpunk is the only one produced by an anime studio, but I'm sure you wouldn't call Inspector Gadget or Tiny Toons anime just because they were done by TMS.

What should it be called, serious question? Adult Cartoons is more up Family Guy's alley. Western Animation needs a "Graphic Novel" type of rebranding, except you know, it needs to be taken seriously.

"Anima" might work, but sounds like Enema.

Action cartoons. The Japanese literally refer to Spongebob as an anime. Anime literally just means "animation" to them. "American Anime" is stupid because it's basically just stuff that Japanese would categorize as shounen or shoujo, which is the area where a lot of the things we tend to think of as "anime" tropes comes from.
Are we also going to call Pop Team Epic, Crayon Shin-chan, and Osomatsu "Japanese cartoons"? What about the Western action cartoons of the past ranging from Saturday morning toy vehicles and superhero shows? Are those now anime?
The whole term hinges on people being illiterate in both the history of Western and Japanese animation.

Half of these shows aren’t even on anymore

    Wow there's a Witcher cartoon?

Anyway, most of these shows aren't half-bad, but Cinemaphile is extremely shallow and anti-intellectual (which is ironic for the place that was once supposed to host the nerd outcasts) so the only things half anons on Cinemaphile and Cinemaphile want from animation are flashy fight scenes and big booba girls. Before I started talking to Americans online I never expected "the civilized West" to be so low-brow.

Blue Eye Samurai had plenty of boobs and flashy fight scenes and they hated that too. Cinemaphile is just filled with contrarians

You need more then boobs and blood to have a good show.

Only reason why co doesn't like it is because of the lack of mystery meat e-girls

Not really. These shows are on for a couple of season on average; and then is crap like We care bears and "adult" animated sitcoms.

Now convince a lion's share of the viewing public to actually watch these shows that aren't linked to a preexisting multi-million dollar franchise.

I'm pretty sure Primal, Scavengers, and LD+R have absolute shit ratings compared to the others because they're original properties.

Weebs are morons. Anime just means cartoon to the Japanese.

One of the most obnoxious trends I've seen in Western Animation that keeps this shit going is that a lot of cartoons that take inspiration from an anime can't seem to do it in a way where it doesn't feel like the people making it are trying to establish some kind of street cred with the audience by making the reference so obvious they're basically screaming "LOOK! We've seen ANIME!"
For instance, the Amphibia girl doesn't just have a Super Saiyan inspired form, they made sure to design it specifically so you know what they're referencing.
Any transformation sequence inspired by magical girls goes completely shot-for-shot even with similar music and character poses as they transform.
Every time I see this kind of shit I just find myself rolling my eyes and asking myself what they're so desperate to prove by basically holding up a sign saying they've seen the same anime that everyone else has seen

Why do people that make these collages never seem to actually include only good stuff. From that list only Primal and Arcane are fully well written. I haven't watched SR so I can't comment on that. Also "better writing". The americans have like 40 years of adult japanese animation to compete with. Even if the statement was true, making 3 well written adult shows is not comparable with a country that has decades upon decades of adult animation.

It's a step-up from those collages with Inside Job, Owl House, and Amphibia.

If you want “better written adult content” as your sole parameter why the literal frick would you bother with any anime when live action content is so superior?
How is Shashani-San and his gf fighting a demon at their school show #5000 ever supposed to compete with Sporanos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, even the generic low effort shit like Law & Order
It can’t, and that’s not going into films. If you want “mature” and “realistic” go frick off to live action, that’s not what animation is meant for

Once again you are ignoring the fact that I am responding to the thing written in the OP. I will ignore the generalization you've done because it's childish. Animation can be whatever it wants and writing is an extremely important aspect of that.. I can appreciate shows that are just pure visual spectacle as much as I can appreciate shows that put a lot effort into having an interesting narrative. Not to mention that good writing leads to interesting connected scenarios which leads to unique animated series. Even in the OP you have Primal which , while relying a lot on the directing, has a lot of writing and planning behind it.
        >Sporanos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, even the generic low effort shit like Law & Order
You can make the same stupid argument. What's the point of even watching all of these when non of them will have characterization even half as good as war and peace? Stop looking at everything using a white and black perspective.

        >If you want “better written adult content” as your sole parameter why the literal frick would you bother with any anime when live action content is so superior?
Because there can be a middleground. You can have drama, action, and fan-service all in one show. Sometimes I wanna laugh, sometimes I want a thriller, sometimes I want my cartoon gore to have a bit of introspection.
