It's a nostalgia reboot sequel with the original cast. None of those other movies had all elements.

Ghostbusters and Fall Guy are both boomer nostalgia and both failed.

Bad Boys is Gen X nostalgia.

Ghostbusters had some random zoomers and Paul Reddit. The Fall Guy was literally custom tailored to Cinemaphile who ignored it out of spite.

They are both based on 80s franchises.

Whereas Bad Boys originates from the 1990s.

how is an 80s franchise boomer nostalgia?

and what franchise is fall guy based on?

Boomers claim the 80s as their decade. The Fall Guy was a television series starring Lee Majors , the old guy in the credits scene.

$400m box office run on a $100m budget is barely breaking even now? Are you moronic perchance?

            Anonymous

            >$400m box office run on a $100m budget is barely breaking even now?

On average, the total expenses it costs studios to make and distribute a film with a $100 mil production budget, or more, equals about 2.5 times the production budget. So when they report a production budget of $100 mil, the total cost to get that film into theaters hovers around $250 million. The additional costs are shit like marketing, distribution costs, overhead costs, participation payments, residuals, and interest payments. All that shit adds up.

On average, studios take in anywhere from 43% to 47% of worldwide box office earnings, so if they make $100 mil worldwide, they only get $43-$47 mil. They get more of the box office in the U.S., and less overseas due to foreign governments taking a share, and due to the different values of currency.

So your film with a $100 mil production budget probably cost a total of $250 mil to get out to theaters, which means it will need to earn $531 - $581 mil in worldwide box office sales to break even in its theatrical run.

nta but i thought box office earnings were gross revenue? that is to say, when a film says they made 100m, thats all pure profit after everyone else has had their cut?

if its not the case, then what the frick? most movies are flops, even the ones that "doubled" their budget at the box office and the ones that were flops before are even harder flops than i had thought. real?

                Anonymous

you're confusing gross revenue and net revenue, because you're a moron.

                Anonymous

                >i thought box office earnings were gross revenue?
No, box office earnings are simply ticket sales, and studios share those ticket sales with theaters, distributors, and anyone else that has residual deals on the project. As I posted earlier, the studio share from worldwide box office sales tends to be from 43%-47%, with higher percentages in the U.S., and lower percentages in foreign markets.
                >most movies are flops
Today? Yes. The majority of films do not break even from their theatrical run, but many of them will eventually break even, or profit in time, due to revenue generated from sales to streaming, TV, and physical media.

The studios are killing their industry by using a formula that consists of stupid high budgets + woke garbage that alienates and insults the white majority audience that created them.

that's not true moron. while the standard multiplier is 2.5, that is the break even point, taking into account theatre's take and advertising

                >that's not true
While cost and earnings reports are sketchy at best, my calculations are based on the averages of 15 films with reported budgets of $100 mil or more. Averages being what they are, some films will cost more, some less, and the same can be said of earnings. I used financial data obtained from deadline.com, which listed costs and earnings.

If a bulk of your money comes from international you get less money especially if it comes from China. Then you have to get 3 times or maybe more depending on where all the money is coming from.

More like the white audience has become harder to please. The woke backlash has begun. Whites will only watch if it's guaranteed to be good. If there's even a hint of woke whites will reject it.
