I went through a real rough patch of that 2 years ago, there were tons of days that went by where I was too depressed to do any actual work aside from responding to a few emails, too depressed to spend the time blowing off work and enjoying myself, I just sat there mindlessly for hours on end.

Never had any consequences from it. The truth is that almost no one will notice or care unless you make some sort of catastrophic frickup that draws attention to yourself, otherwise everyone is mostly just focused on themself.

I'm unemployed since 2020. I had some savings with me, but I managed to lose it all since then and had to go beg my father for money in a humiliating way. I was so fricking depressed, anxious and mad throughout the pandemic I could barely speak to people anymore. I started therapy in 2021, then later in 2022 I got meds and I've been better because of those, but I'm still at the bottom of the pit, in debt, having to sell shit to survive and working on small occasional underpaid freelance jobs. I don't buy books or clothes since 2019. I started looking for work in september last year, which was when I was able to stand on my feet a little better, but still haven't found any.

Meanwhile, the usual. I bowl. Drive around. The occasional acid flashback.

        Anonymous

I ask myself the same question.

Before the money problem came the mental problem, I was already a mess in 2017, but had a job. Before that I was living with my gf and she had more money than me, so when we broke up I had to improvise a lot. Throughout those years I lost all of my friends, who were mostly from college, not that we had any fight, it's just that I could not get out of my house for real and they got tired of inviting me for stuff and I never showed up. So when I lost my job I didn't have anything in the horizon and then there was covid. My grandpa is really old and I had to help my parents take care of him. We also had a cat that was run over and was severely injured, the vet expenses were high and then 6 months after that the cat died.

It's just really hard to get out of the bottom if you don't have enough support around you, even if it is people complaining about their own jobs and telling you about their dreams. I didn't think of an heroing myself because it's not how I roll, but at some point I gave up on life all the same and assumed as a fact that I was destined to be miserable throughout the decades until I die, so I just slept, ate, gamed, had fits of rage and felt sorry for myself.

I finally got out of it last year, the difference is very clear to me. Now I'm walking through the ruins of my life, but at least I'm optmistic. Things change all the time, for better and worse, multiple times.

        Thanks for reading my blog.

i actually fricked up hard. One of the two jobs i was working at was a big 4, so they do like background checks every year. There is this social security report in my country that has info on every employer you had, so I stupidly submitted it without photoshopping it (cause they have a way to get it themselves anyways so there was nothing I could do) so they called the other company where I was working to ask for references cause they thought it was a previous employer.

Naturally the other company I guess told them I was working there too, so I got shitcanned from both at the same time.

Sad part is, there was a way to block the report but I had no idea, i coulda blocked it before the background check, then just shopped out 2nd job info and coulda kept both. Havent found a new job yet and running out of monies.

My IT guy started working for a CPA. He traded IT services for incorporation services and it just grew from there. You don’t need a cpa to make your own s corp. it is really easy. Then just get quickbooks and start generating invoices. Start going door to door to different local businesses and hand them a business card. Most people hate their IT guys so it isn’t hard to outbid them.

Yeah. I’ve had the same job for the last four years, the longest I’ve held onto a job so far. I didn’t go to college after high school and am nearing thirty (28 in July). I’ve decided to finally go to college this year and pursue a degree since I want to change careers (or start one, honestly) and someday emigrate to another country.

    >But suppose now that the computer scientists do not succeed in developing artificial intelligence, so that human work remains necessary. Even so, machines will take care of more and more of the simpler tasks so that there will be an increasing surplus of human workers at the lower levels of ability. (We see this happening already. There are many people who find it difficult or impossible to get work, because for intellectual or psychological reasons they cannot acquire the level of training necessary to make themselves useful in the present system.) On those who are employed, ever-increasing demands will be placed: They will need more and more training, more and more ability, and will have to be ever more reliable, conforming and docile, because they will be more and more like cells of a giant organism. Their tasks will be increasingly specialized, so that their work will be, in a sense, out of touch with the real world, being concentrated on one tiny slice of reality. The system will have to use any means that it can, whether psychological or biological, to engineer people to be docile, to have the abilities that the system requires and to “sublimate” their drive for power into some specialized task. But the statement that the people of such a society will have to be docile may require qualification. The society may find competitiveness useful, provided that ways are found of directing competitiveness into channels that serve the needs of the system. We can imagine a future society in which there is endless competition for positions of prestige and power. But no more than a very few people will ever reach the top, where the only real power is (see end of paragraph 163). Very repellent is a society in which a person can satisfy his need for power only by pushing large numbers of other people out of the way and depriving them of THEIR opportunity for power.

Advertising is just a roundabout way to get into media. You start off writing commercial scripts then you can branch off into actual cinema. You can be a copywriter for slogans or social media posts but use your writing in a portfolio to become a writer. Graphic design is also desired everywhere. and companies fight tooth and nail to figure out how the internet works.

There are truly creative people who I met that could go into filmmaking. And there were total idiots that are exactly the types who would suggest putting a troony on a bus light commercial, actually there were so many girls who were obsessed with drag racing and trannies and wanted to keep putting them into projects and focus everything on pronouns. In one class we were given an open discussion and I mentioned how pronouns have only been popularized since 2018 and it's clearly a trend that will die down soon since it's not relevant to anyone outside a minority within America. Nobody cares about they/then pronouns in Asia, Africa or Europe, it's only a north American urban trend. Nobody actually cared, guys were thanking me I spoke up but girls are obsessed with fitting in and it's so easy to trick them into believing something is the future. I believe women are behind everything wrong in advertising, they go to far with messaging and can't focus on creative delivery.

Sorry for the tangent. I spent 3 years of my life learning about advertising and I truly did care. But I can't find a fricking internship anywhere and it's fricking me up to fall behind.

Honestly, I don't care about trannies or gays or that one toss web comic thing. I just think that a lot of evil is done by people promoting shitty products with technically-not-lies at the detriment of quality. But really, I was just making a shitty joke.

You were still being honest. Most people despise advertising and advertisers. I understand, I avoid ads myself, I think most advertisers are moronic and most ads are shit. I hear your joke all the time, it's alright.

Gentle reminder that people that think the Big Lebowski sucks are without exception people that are themselves Black folk. These types of Black folk love shit-talking cinematic achievments like the Big Lebowski because they can ceaselessly criticize it to each other a quarter of a century later to gain social credit (because they can't generate kino like the Coens).

Not since I got fired from my RV service tech job last year due to my alcoholism. I then pissed through my savings and am now living with my dad.

I've applied to over 100 jobs since moving in with him. But due to my laundry list of mental issues (hence the alcoholism) I rarely respond when they call or e-mail me.
