A remake of a sequel to a remake.
This is the world we live in.

The Thing 1982 isn't a remake. It and the 1951 movie are independent adaptions of a book and have nothing to do with the other.

      >A remake of a sequel to a remake
carpenters the thing is more of a reimagining of the original source material, the novel, rather than a remake of the older movie the thing from another world.
carpenter uses the novel much more than the 50s movie did and there is barely anything, beyond the title screen effect at the beginning, in the 80s film that is in the 50s film but not in the novel.
if you think carpenters the thing is a remake then by that logic every dracula movie after murnaus nosferatu is a remake, doesn't make much sense does it?

I'm down for this!! The Thing was hard as frick to play when I was a kid and it actually does a great job of setting up a story sequel. This seems cool. The AI was totally broken but having your teammates freak out and randomly turning into the Thing while your setting Things on fire was a memory I'll never forget. Captured the tone of the movie for a PS2 game perfectly.

If it’s just a retelling of the same story but with women and nigs I have no interest.

It's a remaster of the ps2 game anons not a new game

The goddamn movie already had two black people in it. Stop being such a little b***h. You're worse than them adding women to the film.

The game is canon btw and Childs froze to death. Government knows about the things and tried to weaponize them. Macready and Private Badass US soldier kill a huge thing/human hybrid(as in a merger of their DNA, not an assimilation) and its kind of moronic

the final base really kinda ruined the game for me, it was so massive and under the ice and just felt out of the setting the movie

Yeah it reminds me of the remake where they have to go into the alien ship to fight the CGI monster and it just feels like it loses the premise of just not knowing who to trust in an enclosed setting. I think it's a thing where players/viewers expect a big finale and having it just end otherwise would be seen as lackluster. I also think people tend to miss what makes the premise so scary because they get caught up in body horror, as both the game and 2011 movie do it. The thing as a monster is grotesque but it really isn't all that scary unless you're squeamish, you light it on fire once it flails around and it dies while making spooky noises. If the whole movie were Macready torching rubber tentacles it'd be boring. The best parts of both game and movie are just not knowing who is who and what is what and trying to figure out the rules it plays by. Then pretty much all of them(even the original to an extent) end up in torching increasingly ridiculous monsters

i honestly disliked how jarring it was, very high tech and massive, if the US goverment knew of the thing how the hell could implement such base so fast and if they knew about it before the norway station how did they allow the norwegian get near the crash site at all, it just broke the narrative and setting.

This could actually be one of the best horror games since Outlast or Alien Isolation if done right. I love psychological horror survival.
I'd even humor serious multiplayer social deduction horror of The Thing if it ever came out.

I would love if the same people who made Alien Isolation made a Thing game. Just to have everything faithfully recreated with such care and the sound effects/music. They'd need a much bigger base though. It can't happen, but still it would have been great.

Childs was the thing. He takes a sip of the bottle without being afraid of being infected. Mac giving Childs the drink mirrors the scene where he gives the computer who beats him a drink

Definitely, but moreso that he was falling asleep at his guard post, Blair got inside from underground, the stairs up from the generator room are shown and specifically pans to show Childs abandoned post with the door wide open, Childs stumbles out into the storm and conveniently gets lost claiming Blaire was outside when it's known Blaire was in the generator room as the power goes out right after. He was obviously assimilated.

The Thing is so fricking overrated, holy shit. Even the director of the original film trashed as a lazy gorefest, John Carpenter is a hack.

I'm still pissed they removed all the finished practical effects in the 2011 version last-minute just to replace them with shitty CGI.

    Frick all naysayers.
If this is true then I will play it. The Thing is such a powerful movie that it has spawned a following unlike any other. And if anything deserves a remake of the game. It was fun as I am a die hard john mcclane fan of the series. I am John McClane when it comes to The Thing if you will. I had always hoped for a Dead Space 3 tier ending of the series where The Thing actually makes landfall and literally fricks the world to grey goo. The lone survivors actually end up nuking the planet with a Metal Gear. because mechs. Shit we could throw in a Last of us tier virus to help combat the thing like it’s humanities last ditch effort to actually fight the thing biologically. Toss in the Crossed while you’re at. Would be kino can’t wait til we can generate AI movies at will.
