Am I the only one whose just fricking sick of this "high school for thing" trope?
Swear to god, it's not even a good coming-of-age story like 90% of the time.
At least make it college. I find it weird how many of these people are 40+ stuck in their high school years.
The trauma associated with their highschool years combined with not having to worry about adulting allows these fricking losers to live fantasy lives.
College, the time and place where they were indoctrinated had pathetic gross "adventures" and went into debt" must forever be this sacred place that these fricking losers can never talk about in their media.
Either young adult 20somethings or highschool kids.
No one goes to college
No one talks about college
No one can disparage the place of their cultish indoctrination.
If these people are so unwilling to talk about the place where most of who they are as adults was crafted and where they came into their own.
Then why in the hell should anyone let them talk about highschool life and problems
Was college that bad and that scarring?
But aren't you excited for sarcastic cowardly ugly jailhouse gay girl adventures?
it's because execs think it's more relatable for children. i remember at least one dnd 'guys go on adventures' property that had a high school paradigm forced on it
i'm sick of boring male protagonists
Name ten series released in the last 10 years with a boring heteronormal male protaganist/straightman.
That's partially it but it's like this anon said
Like, look at Fire Emblem 3 Houses. That was technically this "school" setting but it worked because it was this prep school for nobility from the perspective of the teacher. So it never had to shoehorn in these plots about studying for exams or first crushes or whatever.
It's also just a ticket to easy worldbuilding since the "school" route allows for easy exposition, but my god I hate the trope
But when anime does it, everyone loves it. Why is that?
Because when anime does it, the MC usually has some hidden broken power so he can shart on every test and make the nobility/rich kids seethe. It’s popular because people self inset themselves as the MC who everyone views as a slacker/nobody who is actually worlds more powerful than everyone else. They like it cause they lived the slacker/nobody part
The characters are frickable that’s why
Also J.G Quintel is developing it
I'm really tired of this type of shit.
No... JG please don't. I don't want to associate your name with this type of cancer. What the hell.
I'm really tired of outwardly unlikeable female protagonists.
>J.G Quintel is developing an adaptation of this
Well any semblance of hope I had for that new "Regular Show" series is also gone. I don't care how much that dude's life resonates with mine, he's not going to make this
good.
Disappoinment reaches everywhere eventually. He's my favorite Cinemaphile creator. But him wanting to make something for this is depressing. I should've known after that one Regular Show season 8 interview where he said he likes watching New Girl or whatever. California corrupts everyone, epecially the chill ones who go with the flow around them. Just look at Close Enough and its shitty female politics.
Would rather watch him do a tongue in cheek 90's era college setting with EXTREME 90's heroes.
That would actually be awesome and the nostalgia would be obscene.
What an unbelievably boring and unappealing artstyle.
test
Those girls are ugly
Hey Cinemaphile just a heads up
>Gay fat cynic protagonist girl
>Coom Fox girl
>Gemma gumball head best girl
>Lizard girl will likely get fanbase
>Radical art girl
>Hippie principal
>D&D jokes
>Everalsting Boy.
"how to be the cat lady" handbook
Am I just paying more attention bc of Smiling Friends or is Adult swim getting a lot of interesting stuff coming down the pike?
>interesting
i think they learned their lesson of shitting out only rick and morty crap for the last decade and desperately throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks since everyone who made [as] great is either dead or got laid off
>more adult swim slop
just fricking rerun btas and dbzkai forever.
This used to be considering everything [as] stood against
this looks like complete garbage, story and art. Let me guess, it's done by some "award winning" person
What the frick is Muffy from Arthur doing there
That's Sue Ellen.
Is it really impossible for Californian nepotism women to not make something about self inserts and magic?
Harry Potter ruined an entire generation of white women.
Intrigued and also excited for the rule 34.
Holy shit wait for it to come out at least you whiney Black folk
Saved me a post. This place really just whines, shits and moans more than Cinemaphile at this point.
>holy shit stop noticing and consume
>dude just wait bro!
Why? We can see from the teaser image that it’s going to be shit. If that isn’t enough for you, you can skim the humorless comics the show is being based on.
>you can skim the humorless comics the show is being based on.
I did and they have charm and potential for a show, seethe about it
I enjoyed the comic and was surprised to hear it was getting a show given how old it is. Well over a decade if you go by when it started. The comics themselves tend to be shitpost vignettes so I wonder how they'll balance that aspect for the show.
looks like shit.
>hurr durrr california women indoctrination buzzwords buzzwords
Come on man read the comics at least instead of giving some knee jerk CULTURE GENDER WAR OUTRAGE rant.
I think what's sad is that you posted that image fully expecting everyone to think that was good. The absolute moronation in "hm, let me find a really good strip for this to prove my point" and that's what you posted. That's the best you could do.
What crawled up your ass? You okay man? There are plenty of other strips which you can look at if you aren't too busy being angry and projecting.
not funny didn't laugh.
>Quintel is making this
I feel like I'm having a fever dream. All the moronic announcements these past few days but this one feels like I don't know anything anymore. I'm glad he's getting work and not disappearing, but Regular Show was a very strong series from him and Close Enough was ok. I'd much rather him fade out from the spotlight and relax awhile if the alternative is possibly retroactively turning Regular Show to cancer and then... this.
Even the fact people are calling this out as shit and I'm not complaining into a void of waifu culting and this having some kind of defense force like anything else of its kind is bizarre.
This just looks boring, and the premise sounds like someone's X-Men fanfic with the names changed. It doesn't look terrible, just...uninteresting.
Also, what is it doing on Adult Swim if it's about high schoolers?? And why are there *never* series set at, like, a college for magic kids?? Why is it always grade school??
Another victim of the Culture Wars.
>angry shitposting intensifies
I love this comic but I'm really interested in how they'll adapt it into a series since it really shines just being simple and surreal
There's a whole archive of these ranging from gags to surreal shitposting with the occasional serious beat. Is it something I would have marked as getting an animated series? Not really especially in these current times. But maybe they'll make it work somehow.
I remember reading the comic when io9 recommended it and it was so fricking boring.
Hope the show is more entertaining.
Artstyle ain’t doing it any favors. Quintells are shines when the characters are unusual, like a bluejay or a raccoon. His human characters all look unbelievably boring
So is this another kids show being shuffled to AS? Or is it an actual AS show? The artstyle makes it look like it belongs on CN but some of the comics in the thread imply it’s meant for an older demo
I think it is being made for AS. Cartoon Network is pretty much dead (outside of Teen Titans and Gumball) and they keep extending AS’s block.
I just wonder because of stuff like Superman that was revealed for CN and then shuffled over last second.
I think this will be one of the first examples of AS making content that fits the 5pm hour they recently got. Not sure how to describe it, but like “light adult?”. It has occasional themes that wouldn’t fly on a kids show but also isn’t full of sex and gore like something like Mr Pickles.
This one was always my favorite. But I don't watch cartoons so I'll never see the show.
Hey, that's kind of funny. The premise is exactly what webcomics like these are.
I’d probably beat my dick to the lizard girl is she had a better head shape like Salazzle
