you know what's great about dedicated forums and decentralized websites like Cinemaphile, anon? we can discuss things we like, or at least criticize things we hate with a genuine passion, we don't need to go out of our way to take something we dislike and force others to look at it, we can't assume that everyone has the same exact social media feed and sees and knows the same things
you have all of that, and yet you decide to be a little twat and force us all to look at crap like this just because you saw it on your feed and were literally physically incapable of saying "man that's shit" and moving on, not making it our problem
    but you couldn't

California sucks because of the NIMBYs who care more about their real estate assets than affordable housing

Most people probably just CAN'T move.
The current housing market is an absolute travesty. Living in a city is already so expensive (and mostly rented) that trying to save money to move out is a Sisyphean effort. Finding a job in a new area to actually afford living there is even harder these days. KEEPING that job is another hurdle entirely. It's generally just thought to be safer to just deal with your current lot in life and just hope something improves. The market doesn't allow for much else unless you're already well off, in which case you probably don't care where you're living because you're well off anyway.

Judging by the end of the video, they KNOW things are better outside of the city, but you can feel an involuntary rejection of any act towards fixing the hellscape they live in.

        Good. They can stay there.
Because EVERY Caligay I've had the displeasure of interacting with does not acknowledge that the liberal mindset is what caused their state to become a shithole. In fact, they bring it with them. I can see it. Their interest in semantics moronation (after our tennis group complained that some homeless loser passed out in the ONLY park bathroom one of them corrected everyone that he was simply """unhoused""" , one of many such cases). Their absolute SEETHING hatred of the working class (homes for homeless instead of people who are actually working and can't afford one? Cmon).
And worst of all, their smug superiority over people who DIDNT frick over their state with moronic, BOURGEOISIE IDEOLOGY.

It becomes apparent that the "live and let live" conservative that is just there for the troony hate isn't very common, it's just convenient optics for the centrists. It's like how those level headed about abortion were more than happy to leave it to the states as if that's a neutral opinion and not one with obvious results they'd support when convenient.

It's like how there is an overwhelming negative response to Dave Rubin and his husband, conservative gays, and it only got worse when they revealed they were having a child through a surrogate. Like with abortion as a states rights issue, bad things that happen to gays can be something they speak out against when the optics are convenient, but even that neutral stance is them tolerating the negative treatment, allowing others to change policy while they shrug and say "well maybe they should go somewhere else".

                Anonymous

Conservatives being against abortion or being against gay marriage doesn't mean half of all right wingers want to genocide all homosexuals. Maybe it's just a hyperbolic statement you're comfortable making in leftist circles where exaggerations like that aren't necessarily taken 100% literally, but to most right wingers it makes you look overly paranoid

                Anonymous

I'm coming from the "conservative gay couple using surrogate to have a baby being called pedophiles and baby stealers" mainline of "real conservative" because even the more moderate ones let that happen. If you're okay with even conservative gays being talked about like that, you're okay with how homicidal people get with them. They're pedophiles and baby stealers, right? There's only so much "well they don't mean it like that" that can mask that hate.

And I don't think it's genocide, I think it's more like being okay if violence happens to them and softening punishments against that kind of violence. They're just protecting the kids, after all. The genocidal language comes from the push to remove gays from public. How do you do that when they refuse to leave?

                >And I don't think it's genocide, I think it's more like being okay if violence happens to them and softening punishments against that kind of violence
I think most people who aren't rabidly political would be for that. Or at least wouldn't care. Because the alphabet religion insists on inserting itself everywhere, tries to ruin the lives of its ideological opponents (read: everyone who doesn't want little Sally to get a double masectomy just 'cause), constantly runs cover for its most insane allies (see: the recent WPATH leaks), and generally makes enemies of otherwise neutral people.
                >t. was rabidly for legalizing gay marriage and LGB rights in 2011, now realize "we just want to be left alone" was a lie

That's what I mean, you claim to have once been for gay marriage and now you're okay with violence against even conservative gays who just want to be left alone. If that's the moderate opinion, imagine the conservative opinion.

Gay marriage is a separate issue from teenagers getting boob jobs and teenagers getting boob jobs are legal so you ready have plenty of policy and regulation to talk about and suggest.

Well like I said, they brought it upon themselves. Since they started it I don't have much sympathy.
                >Gay marriage is a separate issue from teenagers getting boob jobs
People were broken down over ~40 years to accept gay marriage. The fact that child genital mutilation was legalized less than ten years later leads me to believe that gay acceptance caused the latter to become possible. And sexual deviances (homosexuality and AGP) tend to cluster.

Plastic surgery for kids was already legal as is gender affirming care, even surgery. That's why I mentioned boob jobs so you understand that you need regulation against trans care at any age because you can question any cosmetic surgery for kids. You're coming from an uninformed perspective that held it was recently "legalized" as if all procedures need a bill to legalize.

The kicker is that these are still separate issues and it doesn't make sense to ever separate policy issues to the point of being okay with violence to either group because of any one issue there has been effectively formed regulation and policy around.

In fact, gay marriage was illegal while surgeries for transsexuals were legal.

No, they're not. At least not at the city I was volunteering in.
The homeless looking for jobs almost never interacted with the druggie homeless. The latter spent their whole day throwing knives at parks and threatening children who want to use it. Oh and fentanyl. Lots of it. Also makes them shit themselves like a mf. They like to smear it everywhere too, like marking their turf.
Druggies try to use shelters and missions but get kicked out because drugs aren't allowed. I'd say the fentanyl addicts were about 80% of the homeless I had to deal with. It's so bad the city gave them their own block (camp hope in spokane... what a name).

Now let’s look at non-homeless children who need milk/formula. Republicans fricked them over by voting against a bill that would have helped them during the formula shortage. Absolutely disgusting

The idea of the hustle and bustle, the sense of individuality that comes from being around so many different people. They have this delusion that they don’t conform because they’re out of the standard communal setting that are towns and rural areas. But they’re wrong, it’s the same shit but on a macro scale, and instead of a community it’s a number of differing things that range from ideology to mindless consumerism.

I'd say it's what Cinemaphile does to people as they get to be aimlessly bitter and cynical about everything as a way to believe themselves superior to it, but it of course happens other places online. You know that sense of pride people can get by not knowing something geeky if they're a normie or not knowing something normie if they're a geek? It's like that. It's shallow and should be seen as a negative since you're the ignorant one, but that ignorance comes with a sort of status, you've proven something to yourself and others. Racing to spin uncharitable interpretations and how bad people are for making or enjoying this, feels good. Also it has that Clipart Memphis style that activates the meme hate. The vibes are off.

      >urbanites and their pet Black folk moving to my comfy town
Please dont let them know theres something better out there. We already had property prices explode when the cali libs moved here after destroying their own state.

Red cities that are big are hard to come by, so I would say it’s difficult to look at them. But when you look at quality of life by state (Health Care, Education, Economy, Infrastructure, Opportunity, Fiscal, Stability, Crime & Corrections, Natural Environment), 8 of the top 10 states are blue. Meanwhile, 8 of the 10 BOTTOM states are red, with the exception of one purple and one blue. Republicans can’t point at New York and California and cite that as a reason for blue failure, yet not look at Oklahoma, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi as red failures. Those places are bottom in the bottom for quality of life, but Republicans never acknowledge that.
      https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/quality-of-life-by-state
Similarly, when looking at the American Human Development Index, all of the top 10 are blue states, with the exception of one purple. The entirely of the bottom 10 are Republican.

        >Cool. Hope they stay in their awesome state with their great GDP.
The right wing hate for California and NYC is so bizarre. Nobody wants to live in these places and everybody's leaving is all I've heard my whole life and somehow they're still where everybody lives.
It has a stronger economy, it’s got the ocean AND the mountains which is nice. it's still has a lot of advantages over other places in the US, which I guess says more about the state of the US as a place to live overall.

The hatred solely stems from the fact that they are blue so they must represent everything wrong with governing.

This. I lived in Amsterdam for almost a decade and then later Madrid for about two years before fricking off to the German countryside. I laugh at online urbanists saying that cities such as Amsterdam or other similar Western European cities are paradises and that everyone should move there, but never address the downsides of these cities. Not to mention that Amsterdam stinks like shit because of those canals I used to live near (possibly bikes corroding underwater). They want people to move in the concrete jungle cities like bugs in a megahive.

The only merits about living in the cities is that jobs and businesses are there.

Urbanites and suburbanites are the source of all ills in the world. They're genetically designed to be average, and their abject mediocrity is what leads to entertainment media being made for "mass appeal", because they have money and more bodies to supply that money to the greedy executives.

The groups are literally real. They're wageslaving normalhomosexuals, serfs. Don't you get it? At their core, this is what this tier of society has always been, even back into the ancient days.
They are, kind of, the backbone of society. Their daily wageslaving is what keeps the overall society functioning. But this genetic mediocrity extends to their tastes as well. Their taste in food is average, their taste in entertainment is average, their every opinion is boring "just get along" conformity, they are the essence of mediocre.

I hate them for their genetic lowliness. I despise them. They're barely human, they are just the backs on which the actual humans stride to greatness and wealth, and they will never be anything more.

I want to say it's a joke. I'm from the city and I don't care one way or the other what rural people do or think and I don't see a reason why they should also care about what I do or think. We got our industries and hipster bars, they got their agriculture and pickup trucks

      Anonymous

Not that big, there are simply far more people living in urban areas than rural ones, so you'd really only ever see debates like this in these kinds of threads. The short answer is that it doesn't really matter if you live in the city or the sticks because one way or another you're screwed. Rural areas are killed by massive commutes, whatever money you save on rent is likely being burnt on gas because you have to drive 30+ minutes to get anything done, but if you live in the city you're getting murdered by rent prices in exchange for having everything close by.

As someone who's grown up all over the east coast and have lived in college towns, big cities, poor broken southern down cities, and the rural south (I'm talking population so small there's only one school for all grades) I can safely say rural living fricking sucks dick and a lot of anger in these threads are people from rural areas seething that nobody wants to live there unless you own farmland. Every single person I've talked to who's spent any sizable amount of time in rural areas, but moved to the city always says 100% of the time that city life is significantly better.

The day we fix rent gouging and/or get some kind of UBI is the day everyone can stop pretending there are any reasonable upsides to living in the sticks unless you just really like nature and don't care about having a social life, which is completely fair if you're in your 50s or whatever, but rarely applicable to what I imagine the average Cinemaphile demographic would be.

        Anonymous

Only way to "fix" price gauging is to actually develop other places so people want to live there. Not even sure if that is even possible nowadays

        >don't care about having a social life
Lot of people on Cinemaphile are pretty damn introverted. In point of fact traditionally Cinemaphile was made for those kinds of introverted people.
Of course flip side of that is most of those same people would never dare step outside.

Personally I like nature and I'm glad I can live in a city where there's a decent sized nature sanctuary and I'm a 15 to 20 minute ride from being out in the country. Not fond of large cities but it is extremely convenient.

      >literally nothing to do
      >drunks/hobos/druggies because nothing better to do
      >vast empty space

Versus the urban areas, just like London or Paris.

      >smug "geniuses" that still act like morons everywhere
      >"MUH SOCIAL PROTECTIONS FOR XYZ THAT ISN'T ME BUT I SUPPORT IT" but don't act on any of it; grandstanding
      >everything to do is too expensive to do
      >drunks/hobos/druggies because everything is too expensive to enjoy

She saw the world beyond her window, the beckoning call of the receding wilderness, and put wax in her ears. She knows of a better world, a better head, a kinder circumstance, but she prefers this one. Because it is safe.

Zoomers will justify their internet addictions with a myriad of cope, but the one that stuck out to me in particular in the comment section of this dogshit video was the one claiming that the reason why Zoomzooms are so lonely is because of a lack of "third spaces". Ancient Greeks viewed anyone on the bottom as shameful due to naturalistic ideas about what it means to be human and deny ones animalisitc appetites. For this reason, a male bottom, who chose to receive, was seen with even more scorn than women, who at least were seen as being closer to nature and more volatile as a result. Unless you mean Spartans in which case they were insane outliers in almost every way.

Probably because 1. People actually started answering truthfully in surveys instead of trying to project an image of positivity and 2. A more globalized world exposed many people to the truly awful things that happen out there, probably impacting their mental health.

The 50s were during an economic boom. After two world wars, America became a global manufacturing hub. China more effectively entered the scene and started taking over in the following decades, but for a while that single income middle class lifestyle was more achievable and sustainable.

Right, if you were a white male. So it's a combination of many things, some of which really was that hierarchy serving you better, more power and money consolidated to a smaller population and more opportunities for them by way of the continent being spared the ravages of war and having easy logistical access to resources.

Then there's the labor of women which was unpaid as they worked at home. That's even more money for that nice hierarchy of white men.

I dont know if those terms really apply. I would rather say that she is dulled. She knows something is wrong, but instead of focusing on the actual problem, media addiction and materialist attitudes. She focuses on those problems through the lense of media itself. The problem of media addiction becomes simply a trending topic and a mere moment of contemplation before pivoting to the next banal though ot trend. And yet, the problem is ever recurring, because it is not a trend, it is an actual issue.

Most European cities, and some Asian cities. But with the way things are going, riding public transport sucks dick now because of the common nuisances that board them. Plus here in France, we did have a bedbug problem on the trains either from tourists or just the natives that don't fricking wash their ass.

Sound like some moronic shit that idiots like Adam Something or Not Just Bikes would say just to gaslight people into thinking cars are le bad because they were "designed to kill". The "problem" with cars is one, CO2, and that North America made most of their cities centred around them without other decent transportation alternatives, thus turning them into sprawling shitholes. Cars themselves aren't bad per-se, but making your cities car-centric with no other options is beyond stupid.

Too much demand for housing makes housing too expensive and remote work has removed the need to live in the city of the company you work in, so many find it easier to just move somewhere cheaper and work from home. If housing was more affordable in these cities, people wouldn't leave.
