This was a weird era for Pac-Man, Bandai Namco really wanted to turn him into a marketable character for kids like Sonic and went all out with a tv show and multiple videogames. Capcom probably had similar plans with the Megaman Fully Charged cartoon but committed nothing in the end because they must've known the show would flop and not last past season one.
It's insane that they completely shifted the tone for that miniseries, Skull Man was actually a neat villain and I liked Wily's philosophy of becoming a "Master Slave", I have no clue why they ended it on a "I'll get you next time mega man " moment when they had already killed most of the Robot Masters from the show and only Wily was left standing.
Now I wonder what someone would do if they were given six issues to "conclude" Ghostly Adventures

The problem is that this type of media is always made with sequels in mind. They assume it will get popular enough to continue so they don't want a definitive ending to retcon later. Then if it doesn't continue they just don't care.

Which is bullshit, the demos in japan already had him without the fangs or whatever nonsense Kalinske said was a problem by the time SoA was getting to do their take. Just like when they tried to make their own soundtrack for Sonic 2, the motivation was entirely "we have people here whom we pay, and they gotta do something to justify getting paid. Let's change the design in this game the Japs are sending over"
Yeah the Ghosts were probably the best part of the show. Of course Pinky had the same voice as...well another cartoon character and it was really distracting at times.
They have to be running out of arcade compilation ideas at this point, Pac-Man is practically nothing but arcade-themed games at this point. Hopefully the Klonoa remakes perform well enough that Namco decides to make a new 3D Pac-Man platformer or remake the old ones. There's a lot of reverence for the 5th and 6th generation where Pac-Man got more ambitious beyond the tried and true arcade gameplay.

This might actually happen someday. The new compilation has a 3D hub world where you can move Pac-Man around in a virtual arcade. A bunch of his idle animations reference his idle animations in the first World game.

the show has lore but they made it up as they went along, contradicting and retconning stuff because none of the writers gave a frick
it's not good, but it gets super bizarre at times. I remember an episode where there's an outer space race against aliens and ghost pirate aliens and there was a giant floating space cow which was clearly just a pre-existing pac-style cow asset that they recycled with nothing but a scale difference
here it is, I haven't rewatched it but I remember it being pure "what the frick did I just watch"

And hell, reading through this thread made me take a peek on Tumblr and the first things I see are "sexy" humanizations and oc x canon art of him. A lot of it predating the current memeing on the show while still being relatively recent (from this year). People who still actively draw this character and/or fan art of Ghostly Adventures in general. Absolutely phenomenal, this is some (admittedly autistic) dedication I can respect. Earlier he had fair reasons to dislike Pac (and the yellow ones brought their drama/war to others) mainly due to he was a class clown who'd disrupt class often and everyone usually got dragged down with him, he also ate too much during lunch and the teachers just let it happen which left other students still hungry, and the fact that his girlfriend at the time spent too much time with Pac and was obviously in love with Pac despite being in a relationship with him.
I liked the show but I'm glad. He wouldn't even work the same way if it was this version.
I prefer them celebrating Pac-Man's history as a whole, not just a specific iteration.

i tried messing with his colors to fix him, but nothing really works. He is just fricked.
I recall 100% both games as a kid. The sequel is obviously better and more refined but it's your typical 3d platformer Nothing really special about it. It's very solid but lacks anything really special or stand out. It was decent when 3D platformers were rare during the Xbox 360 days but now that there's a huge market for that now there really isn't any point in playing it.
The closest comparison I can make is Super Mario 3D Land/World but even more tame
They're passable, 2 makes a clear attempt to improve upon 1 but still suffers from a lack of budget and/or care. Generally feels unpolished and cheap. The world games are all better, but at a time where mascot platformers were extinct it was still pleasant

spheros hired the terminator dude to kill the pac people while he convinced betrayus to roleplay "army" so everyone had someone to point the finger at when shit went down. betrayus is not smart enough to pull a genocide off. his brother was charming and smart enough to do so, though.
I can tell it's a very bland kid show, and not very good, but I also can't look away and oddly enjoy it. I've never felt so conflicted over my enjoyment of something before.

the brothers' names are subtle hints of who the true villains are in the series.
"stratos" is spheros' first name. Stratos is also a play on words with "strategy". His strategy was to betray his brother by framing him as the cause of the genocide, in which it worked. betrayus is not named this because "ooh he betrayed everyone" no. he was the one betrayed by his own "goody twoshoes" brother, the real mastermind.

betrayus inherited the ability to harness the power of a pac pellet fruit from tree of life but spheros did not. which is why he ultimately banished betrayus. and ultimately uses pac as a puppet to eat the fruits and in the end will use pac to continue onward to take over. pac is his weapon of war.

i think spheros will try to tell pac he cant go to pacjapan to find his parents because they know the truth that spheros was the genocider. pac sneaks over anyway then learns truth. spheros loses his shit and has mechasuit that he can kill even ghosts fully. he goes and says i will do it myself... fricking goes to kill pac. betrayus retrieves his body and is in alive form but sees spheros going to kill pac... he sacrifices himself, losing his alive form forever but remains as a ghost forever.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks Spheros might be the real villain of the show. He unnecessarily murdered thousands of rebels, some including innocent children, and keeps their preserved corpses like some fricked up war memorial. While I disagree about Betrayus being completely in the right, His brother was definitely in a far worse morally wrong position. But what bugs me the most is that every Pac-Worlder is seemingly okay with the genocide. Why on earth would you believe there's even a remote possibility of that? The show ended in 2015, 7 years ago, when the Ghostly Adventures IP whimpered out due to being unsuccessful. All of the creative team have moved on. Bandai will never fund the show returning because it had already proven itself to be an unsuccessful business venture. They're definitely not going to do it just because of a viral twitter post about how shit it is, they're not Sony

I think part of it may be my strange thirst for Pinky.
I can tell it's a very bland kid show, and not very good, but I also can't look away and oddly enjoy it. I've never felt so conflicted over my enjoyment of something before.

Remember when Cinemaphile thought that memes infiltrating cartoons was the worst thing that could happen to them? Good times.
That is something we still need to be upset about. The Pac-man clip isn't actually an example of this, but it's still a big deal.
This was a weird era for Pac-Man, Bandai Namco really wanted to turn him into a marketable character for kids like Sonic and went all out with a tv show and multiple videogames. Capcom probably had similar plans with the Megaman Fully Charged cartoon but committed nothing in the end because they must've known the show would flop and not last past season one.
I liked Fully Charged and watched it to the end. I even found a comic continuation.

It's insane that they completely shifted the tone for that miniseries, Skull Man was actually a neat villain and I liked Wily's philosophy of becoming a "Master Slave", I have no clue why they ended it on a "I'll get you next time mega man " moment when they had already killed most of the Robot Masters from the show and only Wily was left standing.

The problem is that this type of media is always made with sequels in mind. They assume it will get popular enough to continue so they don't want a definitive ending to retcon later. Then if it doesn't continue they just don't care.

Just like when they tried to make their own soundtrack for Sonic 2, the motivation was entirely "we have people here whom we pay, and they gotta do something to justify getting paid. They have to be running out of arcade compilation ideas at this point, Pac-Man is practically nothing but arcade-themed games at this point. Hopefully the Klonoa remakes perform well enough that Namco decides to make a new 3D Pac-Man platformer or remake the old ones. There's a lot of reverence for the 5th and 6th generation where Pac-Man got more ambitious beyond the tried and true arcade gameplay.

It's like a kid's video game cartoon from the 80s when they had nothing to work with and just said "frick it, generic formula and throw in the video game sounds". It's like Saturday Supercade's Q-Bert, just with more fart and barf jokes.
The real interesting part is that in the show the war is called Pac War 1, implying the occurrence of at least another Pac War afterwards.
It reminds me of an 80s product cartoon a lot, especially with the "villain spies on the heroes from his lair while he tries a new scheme every week" formula

And yet later in the show we learn that the war was like 15 years ago because all of the adult characters including the sitting president fought in it and pac-man himself was a baby at the time

I looked into it again and they actually just changed her design with a pink color scheme and renamed her “Pac-Mom” along with the rest of Pac-Man’s family being renamed.
It’s not just a rename, they’re all legally distinct completely different characters. There’s a bunch of ugly IP rights legal battles about pac man’s family so Namco Bandai finally said “frick it” and replaced them all

Earlier he had fair reasons to dislike Pac (and the yellow ones brought their drama/war to others) mainly due to he was a class clown who'd disrupt class often and everyone usually got dragged down with him, he also ate too much during lunch and the teachers just let it happen which left other students still hungry, and the fact that his girlfriend at the time spent too much time with Pac and was obviously in love with Pac despite being in a relationship with him.

How do the Ghostly Adventures games compare to the Pac-Man World series? Worth a play?
I recall 100% both games as a kid. The sequel is obviously better and more refined but it's your typical 3d platformer Nothing really special about it. It's very solid but lacks anything really special or stand out. It was decent when 3D platformers were rare during the Xbox 360 days but now that there's a huge market for that now there really isn't any point in playing it.
The closest comparison I can make is Super Mario 3D Land/World but even more tame
They're passable, 2 makes a clear attempt to improve upon 1 but still suffers from a lack of budget and/or care. Generally feels unpolished and cheap. The world games are all better, but at a time where mascot platformers were extinct it was still pleasant

the brothers' names are subtle hints of who the true villains are in the series.
"stratos" is spheros' first name. Stratos is also a play on words with "strategy". His strategy was to betray his brother by framing him as the cause of the genocide, in which it worked. betrayus is not named this because "ooh he betrayed everyone" no. he was the one betrayed by his own "goody twoshoes" brother, the real mastermind.

i think spheros will try to tell pac he cant go to pacjapan to find his parents because they know the truth that spheros was the genocider. pac sneaks over anyway then learns truth. spheros loses his shit and has mechasuit that he can kill even ghosts fully. he goes and says i will do it myself... fricking goes to kill pac. betrayus retrieves his body and is in alive form but sees spheros going to kill pac... he sacrifices himself, losing his alive form forever but remains as a ghost forever.

I find it really funny that Betrayus being attractive is seemingly a popular opinion among people who've seen the show. And I mean, I don't disagree, although I have yet to actually watch it
And hell, reading through this thread made me take a peek on Tumblr and the first things I see are "sexy" humanizations and oc x canon art of him. A lot of it predating the current memeing on the show while still being relatively recent (from this year). People who still actively draw this character and/or fan art of Ghostly Adventures in general. Absolutely phenomenal, this is some (admittedly autistic) dedication I can respect. I strive to be like them.
I can get why they'd do that, even if when watching the show the overall vibe I got was "people were laughing at Invader Zim in the next room over and the writer didn't get why people were laughing at Zim"
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks Spheros might be the real villain of the show. He unnecessarily murdered thousands of rebels, some including innocent children, and keeps their preserved corpses like some fricked up war memorial. While I disagree about Betrayus being completely in the right, His brother was definitely in a far worse morally wrong position. But what bugs me the most is that every Pac-Worlder is seemingly okay with the genocide. Why on earth would you believe there's even a remote possibility of that? The show ended in 2015, 7 years ago, when the Ghostly Adventures IP whimpered out due to being unsuccessful. All of the creative team have moved on. Bandai will never fund the show returning because it had already proven itself to be an unsuccessful business venture. They're definitely not going to do it just because of a viral twitter post about how shit it is, they're not Sony

If there's one thing that should be carried over from the Ghostly Adventures it's the designs of the ghost gang. They're so much better when they're not palette swaps of the basic ghost design just to stay true to the constrictions of the arcade hardware
