Yes, provided you can take the time to watch all of it, it has some standout moments and tells a great story. But it's a bit different from star trek, which is self contained in single episodes and two parters. DS9 is similar to it, sort of.
As for viewing order, there's guides out there. It's fairly straightforward. Sleeping in Light, the final episode made during season 4 is the very last episode you'll watch.
It's very different from Star Trek, though the closest Trek series to it is Deep Space Nine.
Babylon 5 is very interesting to me because it's science fiction and fantasy all in one, the humans are sci-fi, with attitides like any other show and ship designs that actually work according to physics, but they are inserted into what is essentially Lord of the Rings in space.
Yes, and watch in release order. Season 1 is the weakest. Season 5 is optional except for its final episode which is a good finale, and it doesn't require you to watch the rest of the season.
do you really need to be told how to watch a television show? you're embarrassing yourself you fricking homosexual. Even vegetables in nursing homes know how to watch a television show. Fricking have a nice day.
Babylon 5 is a show that is rough around the edges at times but has imagination and writing that no other show can match. You *will* come to love the characters.

You can, but In the Beginning is a nice movie that shows some things before the station was built and stuff only talked about in the show. Thirdspace is a fun Lovecraftian movie that feels like a long episode.
>The first movie called "In the beginning" offers cool lore. you don't watch it till after season 2.
That's not the first movie. The Gathering is the first movie, and The Gathering is to be watched first.
In The Beginning is after season 4, not 2, as there are character spoilers.
As always PRODUCTION ORDER IS BEST ORDER.

ukjesh had the best suit, he was one terrifying character
now that you remind me, I swear there's a point later on where sheridan or someone asks "but how could they poison him through his encounter suit?" and i dont recall that question ever being answered. I guess you can assume it was some kind of shadow frickery? i dont know
I started watching the show recently and The Gathering is probably the closest I got to stopping. It's a shame too because I really enjoy the way the show goes on to use callbacks to it, it's just not particularly enjoyable on its own.

absolutely, im always torn about recommending people watch it first because holy hell is it ever capable of giving a pretty bad impression of the show. no offense to her but the Japanese chick in partucular is probably the worst actress ive ever seen

If you watch the impossible to track down TNT version of The Gathering she's noticeably better. The original airing had all her lines ADR'd because the network felt she sounded 'too aggressive'. She's not amazing with the original readings either but it's a lot less awkward.

People shit on the first season, I get why, but rewatching it now I really enjoyed it - there's just something about the set design and direction that has so much soul - the station really feels like a living, breathing place, more so than other sci fi imo

i find thats the case with most of these sci fi shows. its always "it starts off rough, just get past the first season" or whatever, but once you watch the entire show and get to know the characters and the story and come back, the first seasons are often the comfiest, perhaps because things just haven't escalated so much and it just has different vibes and its great to see the characters in that context.

Just never fails to amaze me what they could do with what I imagine was a relatively small budget. I know there's a B5 reboot in the works but I just can't imagine them being able to have such a diverse set for so many different episodes without just greenscreening everything.
The greenscreened composite scenes in B5 generally feel like purposeful additions rather than relying on it too heavily to establish the world

Honestly, I think I may have in part enjoyed the first season more than the second. The final episode in particular is spectacular. I prefer Sinclair as captain, but I understand the rather unfortunate real world situation behind his departure and Tron is right to try and be distinctly his own man rather than just an imitation.

That's something really interesting about watching the remaster. They could only remaster the fully in-camera shots, any effects shots are left as upscaled SD transfers. It gives you an appreciation for how much of this world was created entirely on the day.
I liked 3rd space and always watch it in its place part way through season 4. its basically just a nice long monster of the week type episode that expands the lore with some neat stuff. the pilot "movie" technically should be watched first and it has some relatively important plot beats but its pretty meh and might give you a bad impression of the show so do with that info as you will. note the terrible asian actress is replaced by a much better character in the show. river of souls takes place after the series and isnt particularly good but it was fun for what it is if you want just a little bit more. the other movies from what i remember are just awful. one is just a setup for the failed spin off series, and one is like, a prequel that makes no sense because it shows characters meeting way before they were supposed to and just feels wrong, definitely rubbed me the wrong way
Yeah the Gathering is relatively important for Kosh and Lyta's character arcs, and it's referenced a few times in S1 as it ties into Sinclair's backstory too
Apparently he properly chain-smoked like dozens every day, so I think he knew it was a distinct possibility and at least he died from doing something he liked.
Also love that apparently he wasn't that confident about his looks, but said that being dressed up as G'Kar made him feel sexy.
The majority of interviews with people who played non-humans, they complain a lot about how uncomfortable the prosthetics were and how long it took to get through makeup, whereas Katsulas just loved being G'Kar
One thing that certainly stood out to me about B5 was that it was pretty refreshing to have a sci fi show written by a catholic who was well read and studied literature and philosophy, as opposed to an edgy atheist nerd. he might have written some pretty janky dialogue here and there, but some of the stuff he wrote was on another level compared to literally any other TV show, and he certainly had a greater respect for spirituality. just a shame the show was still chocked full of neoliberal garbage, but thats par for the course with sci fi
I thought the civil war arc was still good despite being painfully rushed, and I appreciate the story of Clarks tyranny a lot more when you consider that earth actually was being controlled by aliens, which the characters seemed to so keenly dismiss with their feel good neoliberal attitudes
well the lorien arc and the rest of the shadow war WAS supposed to span the entirety of season 4, and the civil war was supposed to be the entirety of season 5
I've just been rewatching the show about 9 years after I first watched it, using the HBO remaster.
Forgot how abruptly the shadow war arc ends - also doesn't help that there's something really badly wrong with the audio mastering in that episode - there's one or two isolated scenes in other episodes that have muffled or muddy audio, but for some reason the entire conclusion episode for the main arc of the show has butchered audio
not true. the civil war would've been wrapped up a few episodes into season 5. since they had extra time they expanded that awful telepath arc. but it's pretty clear that they were always going to end the show with what happened with Centauri Prime
In order you mong
Found a picture of these two anons.

No.
calm down anon, take your meds, we're just having a discussion here.
Any homosexual who spoonfeeds or needs to be spoon-fed on how to watch a fricking TV show should be publicly executed.
Do you even know what spoonfeeding is?
do you really need to be told how to watch a television show? you're embarrassing yourself you fricking homosexual. Even vegetables in nursing homes know how to watch a television show. Fricking have a nice day.
Watch it anon, you won't regret it.

no man you just roll a dice and pick a season
Can you just ignore the movies?
Yes, the series doesn't need them.
Probably. I wasn't even aware there were any until just now.
Why don't you start at episode 1 and see if you enjoy it, go from there, wiener sucker.
You can, but In the Beginning is a nice movie that shows some things before the station was built and stuff only talked about in the show. Thirdspace is a fun Lovecraftian movie that feels like a long episode.
The first movie called "In the beginning" offers cool lore. you don't watch it till after season 2.
the rest are all sidestories that don't affect the main plot, kinda like movies of anime tv shows.

The gathering is a pilot episode, I don't consider it a movie.
The gathering didn't age well. Never got how a first one who can essentially frick you up telepathically could be poisoned by a younger race.

Stop caring. That’s literally all you have to do.
Just imagine this G'Kar everytime you get mad, sad, anxious, jealous, etc.
>died of lung cancer
that picture makes me sad.
Apparently he properly chain-smoked like dozens every day, so I think he knew it was a distinct possibility and at least he died from doing something he liked.

whats your favorite standalone episodes/stories, bros?
for me its "Passing through Gethsemane"
Confessions and Lamentations, shit stayed with me.
that ending tho, definitely an emotional moment

Drazi green vs purple episode, Cinemaphile reminds me of it regularly.
Severed Dreams, great battle scenes on the station and off. The sense of dread before the battle starts is great too.
>whats your favorite standalone episodes/stories
severed dreams is one of the least standalone episodes in the series
Yes.
>morons guide

You won't finish this because you're a moron so ordering the rest is not needed.
Its better than Trek. But it went to shit after the firstones left the galaxy
The assault on Earth is decent, but after that the only thing worth watching for is the conclusion of G'Kar and Londo's arc and the final episode
I thought the civil war arc was still good despite being painfully rushed, and I appreciate the story of Clarks tyranny a lot more when you consider that earth actually was being controlled by aliens, which the characters seemed to so keenly dismiss with their feel good neoliberal attitudes
The show needed a better Lorien ark
well the lorien arc and the rest of the shadow war WAS supposed to span the entirety of season 4, and the civil war was supposed to be the entirety of season 5
