-the progression of major events- goes fast. Between the civil war and now, lots of huge changes happened. So it feels bizarre that back in 1970, people born during the civil war were still alive. But that's because the change was so rapid during that period.
in the last 20 years or so, it feels like changes have slowed down, at least the positive ones. and a lot of things are backsliding.
