Depends on whether you view untreated schizophrenia as "based". I imagine most of the schizos here believe it is.

It boils down to bad parrenting, really. He had a set of principles, but was a moron when it came to reality.

He's noble for trying. Young dumb and full of cum. But he learned the harshest of lessons most of us are spared of. He got a crash course on reality.

Great movie about a cringe AF character.

    He really had no self-awareness.

    Darwin award achieved.

    >If I was in that Alaskan wilderness, it wouldn’t have went down like it did. There would have been a lot more properly preserved moose meat in that bus and then me saying, ‘OK, I'm going to call mom and dad when I find an area with cellphone coverage, don’t worry.’

    >moron has nothing to prove to no one, decides to be moronic to death
Sounds somewhat cringe, although this could be a case of based moron. I shant be seeing the film or doing any research to find out which.

They had to airlift the bus out of the area and put it in a museum because people kept getting stuck or lost just like he did going on pilgrimages to go see it.

      >The bus, which sat roughly 20 miles down a rough 4×4 trail from the nearest highway, had been a source of concern to Alaskan authorities for years. Too many visitors, inspired by her brother’s story, had gotten into trouble while attempting to visit the site; too many formal and informal rescues had been necessary. In the previous decade, in separate incidents, two young women died on their treks. Both drowned while attempting to cross the cold, fast-moving Teklanika—the same river that had barred Chris, who was 24 when he died, from retreating to the highway as his food supply ran out.
      lmfao

He was based at realizing how shitty everything around him was but moronic in the way he decided to respond to it.

Based because he defied the core tenet of boomer philosophy: that you have to suffer for decades of your life in abject misery just to earn the privilege of being able to enjoy anything.

After the reading the book I gotta say a mix of both. I don't like this narrative that the kid was completely inexperienced when he had been pretty much surviving in the wilderness for a few years beforehand. That being said, he made some really stupid decisions due to his hubris/optimism that cost him his life.

Extremely based, but modern people won't understand it. Now killing oneself is mainstream because of how shitty the world became. The MC's problem was that life wasn't worth it even when things were semi-normal., which is true.

He an insufferable selfish c**t, completely oblivious to the hurt he was causing everyone around him. I'm glad he self-owned himself, only too bad it took him so long.
Good film as far as filmmaking goes, but I would feel better about the world not knowing that this guy ever existed.
