Don't mind PicRel, characters like him and Heracles have been holding the genre on the backs for literal millennia.
What's that? Batman has only been the most popular within the western capeshit market for only the last 30-40 years?

This is a fair point, OP. It is fair to consider that Batman is something more powerful than a mere comic book superhero.

Alan Moore seems to understand this. In his infamous "Twilight of the Superheroes" comic book idea, he does not have Batman joining the various warring superhero factions he envisions. Instead, Batman appears in a gathering of more primal, elemental characters, including Tarzan and Sherlock Holmes.

The idea Moore is getting at is that Batman has stepped outside the realm of mere superhero comics and has entered a more powerful realm: the realm of the folk hero, the realm of the pulp hero, the hero who exists a bit closer to real life than just a comic book superhero.

There is something about Batman that possesses more power than your average ordinary capeshit superhero.

      Truth

      >a mentally moronic manchild who refuses to strangle a homicidal clown, and while on one issue he's fighting an interdimensional god, the next he has trouble keeping clean Not!Jersey despite his literally unlimited funds
      Great character...

      Also truth

      >being a kid is loving superman
      >being a teen is loving batman
      >being a manchild is hating batman because hes popular
      >being an adult is not reading comics.

      Manchild is liking Bathomosexual

All of which makes Batman a shitty character. You can’t go
      >I am da night hurdur
then refuse to kill. You can’t portray yourself as a martyr down in the gritty gutters, then also be a supergenius capable to building cosmic weapons. Stark’s a billionaire supergenius too, but he’s also an alcie butthole so that solves the problem of why he doesn’t make tech free or whatever. The market would crash, monopolies would form, whatever other bullshit. You don’t see Stark running around beating up muggers. There’s a contrast between all the Batman titles and that hurts him.
      >b-but that’s how comics a-are
Sure, but Batman sucks for reasons well beyond the fact that you can’t permanently kill off a character. He sucks because of the dissonance between how he works in each and every book. He sucks because his concept and demeanor are antithetical to his actions. He plain sucks. All he’s got is an aesthetic.

      >He plain sucks. All he’s got is an aesthetic.
      Absolutely this!
If it weren't for his supporting cast and rouge gallery, people would finally see him for the shit character he is created by talentless morons who compared their poory written detective and his child soilder to classic Sherlok Holmes and Watson.
      >dissonance
Batwankers would never admit that not killing the joker is moron, because they like the clown getting wanked too.

      >Why doesn't he just kill the Joker argument
Because that's how comic books work. Trying to find actual logic in them is stupid and completely misses the point. The shit that superheroes and the normal people around them routinely do and encounter means that the world they live in should bear absolutely no resemblance to ours. Between all the alien tech, literal magic, and super geniuses, do you really think shit like climate change, global war, cancer, AIDS, fricking peak our traffic, would continue to exist? Shit you think Batman or just anyone wouldn't have gotten a hold of Mr. Freeze's freeze gun and thought "using this would easily repair collapsing polar ice caps and glacial melting" and just fixed it? You think when Lex Luthor comes up with an instant cure for cancer and then tell his scientists to figure out a way to make it a life long prescription to make money one of them doesn't just sell it to a competitor for a few million bucks or leak it onto the internet because ethics?
It's not a case of "just turn your brain off and enjoy the silly comic book" turning your brain off and purposely not looking for logic in ongoing superhero comics is literally the only way to actually enjoy them.

          >He sucks because his concept and demeanor are antithetical to his actions.
But the same could be said for the Flash. Flash is not bound by geography the way almost all superheroes are, he could punch a mugger, run to Gotham and stop a bank robbery then run back to Central city before that mugger even hit the ground. Superman could handle crime across the entirety of the US (arguably the world) 24/7 yet he stays in Metropolis. The Question would constantly be hacking into the world corporations and exposing their illegal activities on the internet with genuine evidence.
The fact that crime or suffering of any kind continuously exists in a world with superheroes is just absurd. The only way it works is if you only consider that the current issue you're reading matters and that the broader canon is just a vague blur.
Really out of all the insanely over-powered superheroes, Batman actually makes sense, he's a normal human man who uses his skills to try and stop crime across a gigantic city almost alone, given that crime is rampant, the police force and local government are corrupt and major criminals are so insane and armed with such ludicrous technology or powers that normal police wouldn't be able to handle them. All the while Batman also uses his vast wealth and resources to continuously try to improve the quality of life for people living Gotham. Realistically Batman and Bruce Wayne would have not only solved crime, but also general poverty and suffering in Gotham, within the space of ten years, but again, that doesn't work in ongoing superhero comics, so you can not enjoy Batman personally, that's fine, but arguing that Batman specifically doesn't work because whatever reason is just setting yourself up for annoyance.

It's actually hilarious how he is far more worshipped by anyone in Gotham or the League despite living in a world where Superman and WW exist, one of them being a literal Goddess.

For all Superman has done, he has a lame and estranged son. Bruce has a family who worships him no matter how bad things are and no doubt there's several orphanages who do the same. Same for the League and his villains, Batman's word counts far more than anyone else. He truly is the coolest.

Batman really hit some perfect apex of design + basic story that makes him work no matter what
Campy Batman is great, gritty Batman is great, realistic Batman is great, stylized Batman is great, high-tech, low-tech, liner, family man, it doesn’t matter. He always works
Batman fans who pick sides are lame. If you can’t appreciate Silver Age Batman comics and Frank Miller, if you can’t like Adam West and Christian Bale, Batman: The Animated Series and Batman: The Brave And The Bold, you’re limiting yourself for no reason

My bad, I thought we were talking exclusively about pre-52 Wildstorm imprint.
I'm deeply invested in Wildstorm as part of the DC universe. Check out my work: https://new52wildstorm.wordpress.com/
